The trouble is that often these types of MOCs were undervalued (me the first  ) the good new is that we are fixing it now  .

On the other hand, the limited part count forces you to reconsider each part you add. I found myself going back an forth between creating an iteration to improve a function for example without caring too much about the part count and a subsequent rebuild where I tried to eliminate parts. I truly think my MOC-ing skills have improved due to this process. For example: in one iteration I went from 266 to 204 parts just by combining structural elements and critically review all pins, connectors and axles used.

I totally agree. Another thing to consider in future competitions would put the final size of the MOCs, it would be interesting to know which sizes are achieved with few parts, it is clear that the panels will make a difference.

How about this: 500 parts max and the MOC can't be a vehicle  I wonder what kind of crazy contraptions people would come up with then.

Good idea, there are some Technic animals that are awesome, I would like to see some more. Maybe I would build a caterpillar :iamded_lol: .

Non Vehicle was my initial idea for last first contest, which turned into the Triple Build. I can guarantee there will be a Non Vehicle contest on my watch

Jim, what is the last day of sharing entry: 31.07 or 1.08?

I'm thinking of closing the topic somewhere around noon on the 1st of August.

Poor Jim has so much work to do

How many entries do we have so far 45?

I really do like these contests, so I don't mind spending a few hours working on it.

Maybe I will take the easy route and not recollect all entries for the voting topic. Let me sleep a night on it :sweet:

Did you not know that he has lots of little minions working for him behind the scenes.

They all live in his big windmill and cycle to work each day.

I edited my entry post to add PDF instructions, I hope that is OK :)

Anyhow, the last few days have brought a few excellent entries :) Very curious what the voting round will bring us, it's hard to predict anything.

Jim, Can you update the first post with the latest official rules, especially surrounding media and the entry post? I'm worried that some of the details and restrictions are dispersed through out the tread and I don't want to miss anything.

Please?

Thank you.

I think it's all there. And there's more in the entry topic's first post:

Let me know if you are in doubt about something.

Or check what the other contestants did. Just post your entry like them and you'll be fine

I am maybe wrong but a caterpillar is a insect and also a trademark of one of my favorites machines, just a bad joke :hmpf_bad: .

No the joke was great, I laughed couple of minutes.

I think Lipko meant that he already built a caterpillar and couple of other insects for [TRIPLE] contest which means that there already was a contest in which entire set of models consisted of replicas of animals and not "vehicles" "machines" or "mechanisms".

Jim, can you give us the official time, and time zone, that the contest will end? The deadline really crept up on me.

I was planning on closing it around noon (Amsterdam, GMT +2, if I am not mistaken). But since the description "closing date August 1st" leaves room for interpretation, I will close it tomorrow morning and create the voting topic on Sunday. Next contest I will be more clear about it.

I was just wondering about the next step , the voting.

I assume that there will come a voting topic with all the entries, when the deadline closes.

Jim talked about a point system. each voter gets 10 points to give away. You can put it all on one entry or give the best entries a couple of points (something like: 4 points for the best entry, 3 for the next, then 2 for #3 and 1 point for #4).

I thought I read something about a voting time of 2 weeks, but I could be misstaken???

It would be great to hear the end result somewhere around the 15th of August. Perhaps Sunday the 17th?

Just thinking out-loud

Almost:

10 points with a maximum of 5 per entry and you must spend all points.

Voting will open this Sunday (maybe tomorrow, but I am quite busy). I think I will close the voting next Sunday and I will have the results immediately. I am on a short break to Sziget the week after the 9th so I want to close it as well.

I could also leave the voting open for two weeks and close it on Monday the 18th.

Do you think one or two weeks is better for voting?

Next contest will be six weeks of building and one or two weeks of voting. I want to standardize the durations, so people can get used to it.
