Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 There are 57 entries!! Some of them are lacking a discussion topic, which is mandatory for entering the contest. I might have overlooked the topics, so I need to verify. Do these entries have a discussion topic? Dusty plane: http://www.eurobrick...25#entry1951973 Port Crane http://www.eurobrick...25#entry1954278 Norwegian Yak Shredder http://www.eurobrick...25#entry1954754 Mobile Crane http://www.eurobrick...50#entry1955351 Offroad Trike: http://www.eurobrick...50#entry1956033 When it's your entry and you haven't started a discussion/WIP topic, please do so and post the link here. The port crane images are way too big! http://www.eurobrick...25#entry1954278 Maximum width is 1024 pixels! Quote

Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 Jim, see personal message and: http://www.eurobrick...topic=96537&hl= Thanks! And corrected. Next content I will explicitly mention to include the topic link in the entry post. It is something contestants started doing themselves, which is awesome  Quote
Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 I have created a (locked) voting topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=98491&st=0 Please read the rules and let me know whether it makes sense. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Great job setting it all up Jim, Many thanks, and makes sense to me, Guess I better learn to count 20 now. Just a query, the numbers of the entry list you prepared is off by 1 from the Entry topic, because the first post is the guidelines info, just wondering if that is correct? Quote
Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 No thanks! You are the guys that make it all happen. I'm just the provider There's a hidden post in the entry topic too. So 60 posts, minus first post, hidden post and closed posts, makes 57 But thanks for paying attention. A simple check I didn't perform. Quote
Mark275 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 What should be the points to look at when voting? - Lego stylishness - Looks - Functionality - Playability Something like that? Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I see you upped the points to 20, good choice. Quote
Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 I see you upped the points to 20, good choice. Thinking about the suggestion for more than 10 seconds made me realize it's a pretty good suggestion Quote
barman Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) This is going to be a nightmare counting all the points not to mention the errors that can occur. Wouldn't it be better if everyone copied the list (giving every entry "0" point in the first post as a standard) from the first post and just edit the zero to the number of points? The voter can even make his points placed in [bold]. Jim can than copy every post list in an Excel sheet for easy counting an less room for error? I don't know if this is a good solution??? Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 What should be the points to look at when voting? - Lego stylishness - Looks - Functionality - Playability Something like that? For me there's only a single criterium "would this be on the shelf of my local toy store?". On other words; Judge the set as if it were an official LEGO set. That means you indeed vote for all the criteria you mentioned. I will make it a bit more clear in the voting topic. Thanks! This is going to be a nightmare counting all the points not to mention the errors that can occur. I have written some software which counts the votes, check whether they add up to 20, etc. So, no nightmare there. The nightmare will be the voting itself Quote
zweihander Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Well, I don't think Jim's gonna count the points manually. A script that goes through all the entries and calculates the total votes would be much easier. I am guessing that's why he requested that no other text should be present on lines where points are given. edit: he replies faster than me :) Edited August 3, 2014 by erelender Quote

Cumulonimbus Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Jim, thank you for making this contest possible. I noticed that the voting topic opening post mentions the Triple contest a couple of times, including the link to the topic. Is this done on purpose? (if so, I don't quite understand why). Quote

Cumulonimbus Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I was wondering, since this contest is so successful (even my personal shortlist has 10 entries), and the total number of voting points is increased to 20, would it be an idea to extent the possible prices as well? For example the top 5 could win something? Or would this conflict with your idea of standardizing the contests? Quote
Jim Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 All seems good to me. Cool! I will use your image for frontpage promotion! Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Wow 20 points to spend, I will vote 1º-4, 2º-3,3, 3º-2,2,2, 4º-1,1,1,1. Quote
Bzroom Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Jim, to my understanding, we're supposed to post our votes in the voting thread. I think it is more traditional to cast votes in private, dropping a small note into a colorful box. Can we private message you our votes instead? Quote

For example the top 5 could win something? Or would this conflict with your idea of standardizing the contests? These prizes are provided by LEGO so we are limited by three prizes per contest. And I do like the analogy of Gold, Silver and Bronze. What we can do is add the Top 5 to the Hall of Fame, but that's about it. Jim, to my understanding, we're supposed to post our votes in the voting thread. I think it is more traditional to cast votes in private, dropping a small note into a colorful box. Can we private message you our votes instead? No, the voting is always public in our Technic Contests. I don't think there's need for voting privately. You did get your 20 points Quote
Boulderer Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Bit of a shame I don't qualify to cast votes. I hope everyone doesn't struggle too much with deciding where to place their 20 points Quote
Captainowie Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) "Could this be on the shelf of my local LEGO reseller and would I but it?" Minor typo there :-) Otherwise the instructions seem fairly straightforward. Thanks allanp for preparing that picture. Would it be possible to include the number for each entry in the picture? Perhaps also include the compilation picture in the voting thread? Owen. Edited August 3, 2014 by Captainowie Quote
