Zerobricks Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) Here's a little thing I've been working on in LDD, Arocs 10x10x6: The cabin is stolen from the Arocs set, but the chassis is all my original design. The suspension is on the lowest point in the picture above, with extended springs the truck should be some 1,5 studs higher above ground. Each axle is driven by an M motor on top. With the exception of the rear axle, all axles have shared suspension with 2 springs which allows for very responsive suspension system. Front two and the rear-most axle steer, the orange beams transfer the steering power to the rear. I would really like to build this model IRL, but I am short on 5L suspension arms, in this case model uses 24 of them! I still have to install steering motor and a fake engine, but I think most of the work is done. Edited October 10, 2015 by Zblj Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) Here's picture of the axles only. You can see how the motor drive 3x 16Z gears with a final 1:3 gear ratio between an 8 and a 24 crown gear. If you look carefully you can see steering linkages between the first and second axle and on the fifth axle. Edited October 10, 2015 by Zblj Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 That chassis looks great Zblj  Quote
MaxSupercars Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Nice solution Zblj! Very good attempt to minimize gear losses via mounting the motors direct on axles... Max... Quote
Imanol BB Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) very nice work ZBLJ, now i know why you need that amount of 5l suspension arms, also, could you upload the LXF? EDIT: i just became citizen. Edited October 10, 2015 by ImanolBB Quote
GoldVillage Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Nice models! fell in love with that little backhoe ;) i fixed the gears, and the roof too... the L-shape beams wasnt a legal connection so i replaced it with a straight 5l beam. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/goldvillage/Backhoe/minibackhoe_fixed.lxf Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Great chassis indeed! Looks great and will work great as well probably BTW those axles are based on the actual LEGO set? I did not build it, not do I have the Merc so that is why I ask... Will have a copy within a couple of weeks though! Edited October 11, 2015 by 2LegoOrNot2Lego... Quote

I realized I should have done this prior to my comment: I checked the online instructions and yes you took it all to a much higher level!!! As we are familiar with when it comes to your creations!!! Some question though: 1) The steering does have to travel a long way to get to the most rear axle. At this point I have no clue how you get this done... 2) Are 7L gear racks and new difs not available in LDD yet? Not to mention the hubs... 3) Do the dual tire rear axle bogies have a pivot point? The official LEGO set uses those rubber flex parts of which I am not certain it works proper!? Quote

The rear axle should work without the second pivot point due to the slack of the frictionless pins. Quote

First I though it to be a lockable length differential, but not close Could be but it needs to modified... Quote

You're all right It was just a simple build to see if its possible. But because of the way the 24 tooth crown gear is attached that differential would be too weak and would slide apart. Quote
Richard Dower Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Okay, let start with a copy of all my models with LDD files: http://i.imgur.com/0mKXcg1.gif Sorry but you're just showing off IMO Edited October 19, 2015 by Blakbird : Please don't quote fifty images just to make a one line comment. Zerobricks Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Here's an old(ish) tutorial I kind of forgot about, but I think it might be useful for anyone who wants to make a small robust rock crawler. Quote
SimonSalomon Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 HEEY :D Do you have the LDD file on the Arocs 10x10x6 you made? I am building a truck myself but i just can´t make the damn front drive and suspension with steering too. Quote
Rockbrick Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) So, who can guess what this little contraption is? very nicely done... should be possible with some 3d printed parts though I came up with this for a longitudonal diff - you have to assume you can connect one wheel to the black axle and the other to the Grey one (i.e. the grey tube and gear is one piece) Edited October 28, 2015 by Rockbrick Quote
Samer Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 The 1st black car in post 1 is insane! You are also sharing your LDD files, kind of you. Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Here's something I came up in LDD and built from real bricks: The main advantage of this diagonal gearbox is lower number of gears which means it is very efficient. BUT the torque it can transfer is so far rather low because the assembly can slip apart. Also mechanism to switch gears will have to be rather complex in order not to select two gears at once. But the design is expendable up to 5 gears and may be useful for supercar-style cars. Quote
