Wat Tambor Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 After a long time, I am building for SoNE again. This is not only my first SoNE build for months, it is also my first non-freebuild for SoNE. Episode V: Secret Plans - Burn 'em out Just a year ago, I did contract kills for the Empire and operated as a spy behind the enemies lines to gather information. But then after years of experience an important mission, killing a high-ranking politician that secretly cooperated with the Rebellion, failed. It seems like the Officers sent me to Endor as a punishment for my failure. This moon is a godforsaken place where only trees grow and every place looks the same. If our mission is done I hope I am the one of the first soldiers that are allowed to move off. The first thing I'll do then is a trip to the casinos of Cloud City. Commander, all technical systems are online, we are waiting for further instructions. Alright, let's burn this place to the ground! We need more space for the construction of a new landing platform. But sir, aren't there any natives living in the woods? In the briefing before the mission we were told, that they are living in the big trees around there. Burn them out of their trees then soldier! If they try to resist then kill them, if not just leave them alone, these are just primitive life forms. Yes Sir, the order will be executed! You've heard the officer. Now burn this damn place to the ground! The faster we finish it the faster we can leave the bloody planet. C&C welcome! Thanks for viewing! Quote
Nom Carver Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 It looks great just as it is, but that bird (I think it's supposed to be a macaw) and those thin and curved trees make it feel like a jungle/beach environment, don't get me wrong, I really like it, but it could look a bit more Endor like, but who cares, and is the stormtrooper with the mustache you? that is a pretty outdated mustache style you know . goatman461 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I agree that the bird seems a little too tropical but I can still easily see this as a great Endor location. I imagine its on the edge of a clearing or meadow and those are redwood saplings. Despite the heavy foliage this build is also incredibly clean and sharp looking. Glad to have you on board the Empire. Also, I use to have one of those mustaches. Great choice. Quote
markus1984 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Welcome back @SoNe. Nice to see you hier with your next MOC after long time. The buld and Story is great and im loving it that you use the sandtrooper for this MOC, looks very good. Hope we see more from you in next time? markus Quote
Wat Tambor Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Thanks a lot for commenting! Well, maybe you are right and the bird is a bit out of place. But according to certain sources, like jedipedia.de, the German equivalent to Wookieepedia, Endor has quite a lot of different landscapes like savannas and deserts and not only woods. So when Endor also has deserts, where the Gorax live, why should't there be colorful birds? Also, I use to have one of those mustaches. Great choice. Lando Calrissian style! Welcome back @SoNe. Nice to see you hier with your next MOC after long time. The buld and Story is great and im loving it that you use the sandtrooper for this MOC, looks very good. Hope we see more from you in next time? markus Well, let's say I was forced to use sandtroopers, because I only have one single standard stormtrooper. Gladly the dirty armor of the sandtrooper fits well for a location like Endor. But I hope that I can get my hands on some more stormtroopers soon and hopefully there will be another battle pack soon with the arrival of SW Rebels. Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 The macaw could easily be one making one of the strange birdy sounds you hear in Episode 6 so I wouldn't worry about that. Anyway, I love the trees and the fact I wasn't the only one to realize the only way to clear a forest is fire! Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 The MOC in general is well made and very clean. The computer is nicely built and I like the fact that the build has a border. I too agree it has a more beachy feeling to it and the main reason are the palm like trees. Swaping the trunks with something different might help that. Also the sandtrooper uniforms and the dark tan gives the impression of sand instead of soil. I'd suggest using more brown on the ground ... Quote
Disco86 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Great to have you back at SoNE, we always need goog builders for the Empire. Your build is mslall but it has some cool details in it. That computer with the cable and the natural environment are looking great. And I also like the use of sandtroopers. Quote
BEAVeR Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Excellent! It's sure a good thing you're building for SoNE again. Perhaps what I like most in this build is the nice contrast between the natural environment and the very clean artificial section. the low but dense foliage is very interesting, and the relief it creates is right the opposite of the smooth surface for the equipment. More to the back, you have some nice higher vegetation, and I like the combinations of plant pieces you used there. The texture you achieved for the stump in the back is very nice, but maybe it doesn't work so well because it's sticking out from the base too much. Making that stump thicker would probably make it better already. I also like the transistions in the foliage. It's good that the edges there aren't too clean, and using some curved plates helps very well there. All in all, I very much like the layout of this MOC, with the sharp contrast in it, and going from low to high in a number of directions. And things like those white studs and the tropical bird add some detail and color to the scene. The technical bits are some really sweet, neat and clean combinations, and I love that you included some kind of generator. All those things bring some life to it all. Still, I have the feeling there is still something missing, to really catch my eye. The scene might be a bit bland. That's probably due to the rather low foliage at the front. If you want to keep things low and interesting at the same time, that might get a bit tricky... I see you already put some crates in that area, and it are those kinds of things that make that area more interesting. Maybe some difference in vegetation in that particular area would be good, as those stems, while well placed, tend to get a bit monotone. You could be subtle in this matter however, You could for example place some of those leave parts you've installed on the ground there upright, without any connection whatsoever, leaning against the stems. I think they would blend in well, but still give some nice variety. A big branch that has fallen would really make it interesing, or maybe a dead animal... Anyway, in general your MOc already shows that you're concerned with bringing good variety to your scene, with those mushrooms, that path, the bird, the stump... So lots of good stuff already, but it could be expanded. The flame thrower is a nice idea, but it sits on itself in this scene, and there is not much to connect it to the rest of the build. Some already burnt pieces would be nice (maybe even a trail of devestation), and some smoke would certainly be a bonus. And formost, you have to create the necessity for the flamethrower. Because now, using it doesn't seem to help that much because the foliage isn't that dense at all, and there are already some paths... So maybe the best thing to do is to make the vegetation towards the back denser, more like a wall where you have to cut through, forming a real obstacle. That would also get rid of the beachy feeling, if people are bothered by that. But already, you've made it that we will miss you even harder when you don't show up in the next rounds, because this is some good stuff! Quote

It's always nice to see a comment from you two, because you are two of my favorite Imperial SoNE builders. So I really appreciate the fact that you have commented. I know that I have to improve my building technique when it comes to forests and trees and especially BEAVeR's comment is quite helpful. Unfortunatelly I have seen the last post to late to rework the MOC until the deadline, but I well keep your suggestions in mind. Quote
