Hammerhand Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) With the incursion of the Drow, and the imminent threat of an attack, Sir Brychan has ordered that old fortifications be revamped, and that new ones be constructed. One such temporary defensive structure, under the supervision of one of his generals, is being toured by Sir Brychan. Overall shot Overall shot 2 Soldiers constructing a palisade Sir Brychan and his General Well, I made it. I only had one day, but evidently it was enough. I drew my inspiration for the tower from "Braveheart", as you can probably tell. It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but that's what I get for procrastinating... Hope you guys like it! robuko Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Nice work Hammerhand, I like the sloping ground and vegetation. This must be quite near the Kaliphlin border! Quote
Hammerhand Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 I like the spindly supports! Thank you Carson! Nice work Hammerhand, I like the sloping ground and vegetation. This must be quite near the Kaliphlin border! Thanks robuko! Actually it's supposed to be right on the Mitgardian border, but I guess it does resemble Kaliphlin quite a bit. Love the tower! Thanks Vlad! Good work on the rock! Thank you Kai! I must say though, it looks better in person than in the pictures. Quote
Infernum Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Love those supports! The ladder is really cool too! Nice entry! Quote
Kayne Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I think it turned out great! Glad to see it make the deadline. Quote
Hammerhand Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Nice, I like the rockwork and the ladder Thanks! Love those supports! The ladder is really cool too! Nice entry! Thank you! I didn't really like using the headlight bricks to attach the supports, but i couldn't think of anything smaller that would work and give me the right angle. I think it turned out great! Glad to see it make the deadline. Thanks! I'm glad I made the deadline too, even if it was barely! Quote
Gabe Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Nice fortification Hammerhand! I like the soldiers building the pallisade. The scree slope looks quite realistic too. It could possibly use a bit more texturing and vegetation at the base of the slope though. Good job for getting it in at the last minute! Nice work Hammerhand, I like the sloping ground and vegetation. This must be quite near the Kaliphlin border! Or possibly they chopped down all the surrounding trees to make the structure and deny the enemy cover i guess? Quote

de Gothia Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I really like the clean and simple (in a good way!) approach to this. The soldiers building is a nice detail but my fav has to be the rocks! Great work on those! Quote
Garmadon Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Excellent build Hammerhand, especially for a hurried entry I really like the tower, its supports and the palisade The rock-work is good too, but it could be improved by a bit more variation (mostly on the right). Nice work Quote

Gunman Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I really like the cross supports from that watchtower Hammerhand.. Well done! Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Nice job on the palisade and the landscaping! I think the thin supports look a little too modern. Maybe you could try some 1x1 cylinders instead? Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I haven't seen a medieval watchtower like this before, it looks really neat The rockwork and angled plates look good too Quote

Nice job on the palisade and the landscaping! I think the thin supports look a little too modern. Maybe you could try some 1x1 cylinders instead? Thanks Thomas! I originally tried a bunch of different support types, but I didn't like how the thicker ones looked, so I went with these. I haven't seen a medieval watchtower like this before, it looks really neat The rockwork and angled plates look good too Thanks SK! The watchtower is based on one from Braveheart, which I decided worked well as a temporary fortification building. The angled plates were actually inspired from your awesome Cat. C scene! Quote
Maxim I Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Cool tower! You see it is just temporary, so great job with that! Also very nice minifigposing! Those two soldiers placing the wooden palicade is just brilliant! Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Very nice tower! I really like the original design, the supports and the ladder. I also like the rockwork and the palisade. My favorite part though would be the guys building the palisade. Great job for a 1 day build! Quote
Tomsche Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I love the way the whole terrain is build up, great work Quote
Gideon Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Very nice watchtower design, lego builds tend to be too "robust-looking" a lot of the time...but these supports look very realistic for a wooden tower where height is the important factor. The rocky part of the terrain looks excellent, but I think the flat areas look a bit unfinished. Quote
