Hello All,

Here is my entry to GoH Challenge 2: Category A - Team Simon.

14254188380_6c54472327_c.jpg

Unfortunately, due to the contest ending tonight, I have not finished the story yet, but am working on it. I will probably edit it tomorrow with the full story, but meanwhile here is a quick summary:

Feren and his men were traveling to help his friend Simon get rid of the Drow from his lands. During one of their rest stops, Feren sent out his elite Rangers to scout ahead. When one of them didn't return, he and his lead archer/friend went out to search for him, knowing the general direction the missing Ranger took. Due to Feren's inhuman hearing ability, he heard whispering, and following it found this supposedly ruined castle, that was almost rebuilt. He and his friend sneaked up to the wall (Feren started climbing up), and heard the Ranger betraying their company to the Drow, and where they will be in a week.

That is what this build is about, I was going to continue the story in my 2 other entries, but (due to the time limit again, and life) I was unable to build them. So here is the summary of what was going to happen.

Build 2 Category B:

When the Ranger came back, they grabbed him, put him in chains, and brought him to Feren. However, he explained that he was actually leading the Drow into a trap. He told the Drow Leader the fastest way to intercept Feren's company, which happened to lead the Drow's army through a narrow rocky valley between 2 cliffs, the perfect ambush spot.

Build 3 Category C:

Feren led his men to the cliffs and split them, putting half his men on both sides. They spent the next couple days preparing for this ambush (gathering rocks, traps, etc). When the Drow arrived, the attack would begin (Which is what the MOC would have been about, the full scale attack/ambush).

That is the full story summary for what I "was" going to do for this Challenge, but didn't have time to build them all.

For the Glory of Avalonia, and Go Team Simon!

Thanks for viewing!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Really cool Mathew! I love the dark lighting, and the little bit of light in the upper left that looks like moonlight. The wall texture and the thick ground foliage give it a really nice old castle feel, which is perfect. Very nice job!

Well this looks to be a very cool build, the lighting is a bit too dark to view it on my phone though. Nice tree technique at the base.

Darn. Would have been a cool story line! Nevertheless, great Moc!

Thanks Carson! Yeah, I wish I could do it, maybe I will build the other MOCs as free builds. :)

Thanks robuko! Yeah, I tried to take a dark photo to add a midnight sort of feel, hopefully you can view it on a computer and see it better.

Really cool- love the lighting!

Thanks Lord Vladivus! :)

Nice texture on the wall, and I like the trees as well.

Thank you Torgar. :)

Nice wall, I like the ivy

Thanks Scaevola. :)

Another great build as we have come to expect from you! And the way you have been playing with lighting lately is very daring. I do think this one is a bit too dark, but only because we cannot see the details as well as I think they would pop with just a touch more light.

I really like this a lot. The wall is great; the lighting might be a touch dark, but I like it, and you don't need the text to understand what's going on.

One of these days I'll have to try those little pine trees...

Really nice build mpoh98! The low light shot gives it a really expectant, atmospheric feel, and what i can see of the build looks rock solid. I'm not sure about making the three central merlons bunched up like that though - it ruins the line of the top of the wall a bit, although i can see why you did it. Maybe staggering them evenly and placing a flag or standard on the empty side would have helped to make a satisfying border?

i'm a bit sad that you didn't get to tackle the other two categories, it would have been cool to see this story play out. Free builds maybe? :excited:

Nice entry, Mpoh, the foliage and vines are excellent, and the minifig posing is very good too

As I mentioned before, the battlements could have used a little work, but an great entry on the whole - to bad you didn't have time to enter the other categories as well.

Thanks kayne! Hmm, maybe it is just my computer, but I can see all the details fine. :P Maybe crank up your brightness?

Nice story Mathew! Maybe enter the rest as freebuilds? The wall is great and I like the tiny trees!

Thanks TheUtilityBelt! I will do my best to try and enter the others as free builds. :)

Thanks Gary! Yes, I will do that next time, good idea. :) I will try to enter the others as free builds. :)

This is excellent. Please do the free builds!

Thanks mccoyed! I'll try!

Such a great atmosphere here!! The wall looks really good!

I would like a pic in daylight though...

Thanks De Gothia! Yeah, sorry, maybe I'll do one picture on a white background later. :)

Thanks Garmadon! Yes, your critiques are great, I will definitely incorporate them into my next builds!

Thank you Gunman!

I saw this in person at Brickworld and it was great then and is great to see again. Good job!

Sweet, glad you were able to! Glad you like it :)

Excellent vignette, Matthew. I like the wall design and colors you used for mottling  The layered leaves and little trees look great too :classic:

Thanks Isaac, I had fun experimenting with those new techniques. :)

Congratz on the wall! The texture is so nice, especially with this kind of lighting!

Thank you Damaximus!

Very nice build! The wall and vegetation look very realistic to me. For the atmosphere the picture aims to convey I think it's fine that the picture is too dark to make out all the details, but I would very much have liked to see another picture in better lighting :classic:

Nice work man, this looks great! Wonderful effect with the lighting but I agree, another lighter shot would be awesome just to more appreciate the details!
