If they did this, the perfect time would be Series 17. That way, they could do 1 of each of the previous 16 series to fill out all of the slots.

I don't think that's a good idea because a lot of people already have the entire collection, so they won't buy them again or at least no the entire series

For instance, I'd only need to buy the #14, from CMF S14

And I don't see them re-releasing a Series 16 Minifigure in the very next series

The zombie was the first zombie ever produced by LEGO. Is it any coincidence that LEGO has since made more zombies than any other type of monster? While they're not my favorite monsters, one or two is nice. I don't have the S1 version, but I'm treating my brown-suited one as the same thing. I don't have a certain two zombies due to their set being discontinued before I had a chance to freakin' buy it.

Basically, the first of a unique kind of minifigure is bound to be popular. Like the Spartan Warrior leading into more classical-era characters.

They wouldn't even have to do the same figure. Just something similar, like the red cheerleader or black robot.

I know. I had an opportunity to buy the VIP Top 5, but only wanted the Elf. Still I think LEGO could repackage different themed ones like they did for the beach, rock band, and Halloween groups.

I am ready anytime that they want to release an Ancient Rome with Caesar, Roman Commander, Roman Centurion, and Gladiator. In a couple of years, they could re-release a zombie minifigure pack with four different zombies, and a caste one with the good knight, king, queen, and jester.

Well, perhaps an itty bitty, bitty, witty part of the reason, now I'm just guessing though, from way out in left field, maybe, that Series 1 Zombie is so expensive now, is that at the time of its release, Spring 2010: ... only 2 of every 10 people or so considered themselves interested in zombies; really. And of the two, one was probably an old school horror fan, and the other was a reader of The Walking Dead comics. Post AMC's October 2010 debut of The Walking Dead series, only months later, that number, of zombie fans, rose considerably; overnight. And zombie fans have continued to increase every year since, in relation to the viewers of the show. And they run the gamete, don't they? Zombies are everywhere these days. Everywhere.

So - all these people looking for a Series 1 zombie now, versus those who were 5 years ago, are doing it for the exact same reasons, probably, that you too are.

Demand has exceeded supply.

But - I believe that is exactly a toy company's perogitive, is it not? To keep a pulse on whatever is beginning to boil way down within that cauldron of "pop culture"...

For instance, keep an eye on the Ghostbusters franchise. Because its "bubbling" right now. They're already coming out of the woodwork, and when the movie hits, the exact same process will repeat itself. In case you haven't noticed, there's a hungry public out there, they are insatiable and they bore easily. And they respond to movies and television. They need something new, something novel, to chew on each year. ... And those 'things' gotta' come from somewhere. From the underground. The underground gets picked-off all the time by consumerism; and then it distorts it, and it disposes of it. Same process is happening to LEGO as we speak.

And - Series 1 Zombie is both; a "double threat". It is both LEGO - and, it is zombie.

It is somewhat resonable for figures from 1st series. Many people are late, and surely many want to collect figures from series 1.

But, for example, why bumble bee from series 10 is so expensive !?

As a minifig enthusiast, I feel so glad to have emerged from my dark age before the CMF theme began, so I have at least one of every fig (except Mr Gold  ). They're really a LEGO collector's dream!

I'm late starting and it's getting expensive ;( I'm collecting the best from each series. Which is mostly suit guys.

And - Series 1 Zombie is both; a "double threat". It is both LEGO - and, it is zombie.

Make that a triple threat. Not only is it Lego and a zombie - it remains to this day the BEST Lego zombie, no contest. The zombies which followed in MF were all pretty specialized (cook, groom, etc.) and hard to amass in bulk. And the Series 14 zombies, while good figures, are also too specialized (Pirate is weird, Cheerleader is specific and goofy, Businessman is good but has a weak faceprint). The whole point of zombies is the plural: zombieS. You have to amass the horde by the dozens. And the S1 Zombie is still the only Zombie who, without any modification, looks excellent en masse. I really hope we get more CMF zombies within the next couple years, something that can finally dethrone the S1 Zombie as a good Zombie armybuilder. A Zombie workman, Zombie redneck, just a proper Zombie civilian in simple casual wear.

They re-released him in CMF S14 so I expect he will be (a little bit) cheaper now

To me, the Zombie Businessman is basically S1 Zombie 2.0. They're both wearing suits.

IMO the S1 Zombie is in no way any better of an army builder for zombies, since they'd all be wearing suits... And not everyone wears the same clothes, so you're really only buying them en masse for the head. AND the accessories are commonplace and uninteresting. But maybe that's just me.

That said, it's probably expensive for many factors, but the four that are apparent to me are 1) time (5 years!), 2) limited production, 3) rarity per box of 60, and 4) greedy people hoarding the figure to drive up the price/demand differential in the secondary market. Many are likely still sitting in small zip-lock bags, unassembled, waiting for somebody to pay upwards of twelve times the original price for them... Because it's apparent that those people are out there, and will spend that much money to get a specific figure if they really want it.

I think the last one happens all too often IMO, especially with suited figures the 2-per-box-of-60 from S9, S10, and S11 (So a double whammy for Bumblebee Girl)...

Anything rare makes more money that's normal. Iv €200 spent on all the suited guys and I'm still not done. Look up the top 100 figures of all time and u will see them in it. For me I like rarity.

I don't get this. Please, explain...

Less people is going to pay such high prices for the S1 Zombie if they can buy almost the same minifigure for $4

For instance, for army builders, both minifigures are equally good but the S14 Zombie is cheaper (and has even more accesories)

But it's not series 1 zombie!!!

If you're a completionist, then it's not going to work for you.

But, if all what you need is a zombie army, then you'll go with the S14 Zombie Businessman

If less people buy them at such high prices, then the price will get lower

It's a "supply and demand" thing

The supply thing may keep the S1 Zombie prices on the high side. Only so many were produced and a fraction of that may be available for sale on the aftermarket at any one time. An army of S1 Zombie is possible if you have the financial means.
