Dilvish Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) I'm rebooting my idea for a Lego themed RPG made in RPG Maker VX Ace. There seemed to be some interest here last time I mentioned it. There is a Google Code project that talks all about it here. I also created a ModDB page for the game. So far I've rendered and imported a lot of graphics, but one thing I am really missing is a good story or plot to tie it all together. I envision a story that starts in modern small town setting, but grows into a scifi or fantasy tale. Here's the latest video: More videos here: Edited June 1, 2018 by Dilvish
Kintobor Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 So you mean like Earthbound? I'd give Earthbound a play through and get some ideas from that. Perhaps it starts out in a small town, and then moves into neighbouring themed areas, like a pirate port town, a medieval village, a larger city inspired area?
Dilvish Posted July 10, 2014 Author Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) Yes, Earthbound is one direction that I could take. But, I don't have any Pirate-themed models, or any other models actually. I'd also like to have tactics-style combat, though that could take place on the current map maybe. [edit] Here's my latest video. It shows the new title screen, a new building interior, a new character and an experiment with using vehicles. You can also see the size of the game tiles. E.g. 4 studs = 32 pixels = 1 tile. The grid will be removed closer to a final release, if not earlier. http://youtu.be/w3_YuhVGqls Edited July 11, 2014 by Dilvish
Dilvish Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) I'm experimenting with Ultima VII-style oblique perspective. It's nice because you get a good view of three faces of each building. But I'm not sure there will be problems when layering the ground, the people, and the top over each other. datsville_complete_test_01 by mikh2161, on Flickr Edited July 19, 2014 by Dilvish
Dilvish Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Ultima VII style graphics won't be included. I got them to work, but they froze the game when switching the different layers on and off. Here is a video of combat testing thanks to GubiD's Tactical Battle System v2.4 for RPG Maker VX Ace. Dilvish Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) I purchased RPG Maker MV recently, and may start this project again. I will have to relearn the tools and study some new scripts. There are some isometric scripts too, but I think it may be easier to stick with the current perspective. Edited April 13, 2018 by Dilvish
Dilvish Posted April 9, 2018 Author Posted April 9, 2018 I ported some of the maps and graphics to RPG Maker MV. I still have to implement the new LeTBS combat scripts however. Here's a screenshot: As you can see, the resolution of all the graphics has increased by 50% in the latest version of RPG Maker. The game window is also HD now.
Kintobor Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Looking good! Seems like things are moving along nicely.
Dilvish Posted April 26, 2018 Author Posted April 26, 2018 You can download the latest version here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/groo0cvf07ic1je/Datsville_RPG_v0.8.0.zip There are graphical issues with the LeTBS combat scripts that I don't think can be solved. I haven't gotten any feedback from the scripts' author.
Dilvish Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 I have run into problems with LeTBS. It does not work well with sprites bigger than 1x1 tiles. So I am at an impasse. Anyway, I created a ModDB account for the game here: https://www.moddb.com/games/datsville-rpg
