Posted June 24, 201410 yr She's all finished now so I decided to give her an all new topic, I hope this is ok. Here she is in all her glory: The new nose: Tubing: Even more tubing: Top shot: Tender: credits to: Jayhurts for the original idea for the placement of the motors in the boiler Scruffulous for the end truck of the tender (copied from his flatcar) Shuppiluliumas and Cale Leiphart for the inspiration for the sloped window of the cabin and the valvegear JopieK for the stickers Zephyr1934 for the wonderfull bars and valvegear parts And last but not least Tony Sava for being such an inspiration with his trains (I hope I did not forget someone) before anyone askes: no, don't have a video yet, all my track is tight up in my layout at home but it's to dark to shoot a video of her running on that
June 25, 201410 yr Wow, with each iteration I see more and more fantastic detailing in this MOC. Some of my favorites are so simple, like the step on the front of the smoke box or the hatches on the top of the cab. I guess the key is that you have incorporated a few dozen of these great, simple features. All that detailing really pushes it over the top.
June 25, 201410 yr Author She sure has been a challenge to design and build, I was worried that I couldn't do the things I did virtually in real bricks, like the nose that's narrowing. When I look back at the pictures from my previous version it's not hard to see the progress I made in 2 years in building techniques and eye for detail
June 27, 201410 yr Really nice looking engine. I love all that complicated running gear and this one looks fantastic.
June 28, 201410 yr Is really an amazing model, but i see something strange, how can run in curve track? The wheels are not in the proper way to made the lego curve track..normally have to be "red o-ring\none\red o-ring\none in your you have the red o-ring in the first and in the last, maybe you can have some problem. But i love your Loco, really impressive, and yes, i want to see it run!
July 7, 201410 yr Very well done! The details are fantastic and shows us a realistic and dedicated work. Congrats!
July 10, 201410 yr what is your wheel set up? i cant tell but it looks like in the pictures you have FBBF. If it is this way how does it take standard switches / points an curves? thanks ...GREAT model by the way
July 10, 201410 yr Author FBBF-BFBF-FBBF maybe this picture from Tony Sava's Texas Pacific will answer the question: TexasPacific610_20 by SavaTheAggie, on Flickr
August 15, 201410 yr Author Finally made a vid of her running, and a close up of the running gear. Keep in mind that the batteries were almost dead so she's rather slow but I didn'nt want to wait a whole day again while the batteries charge. https://www.flickr.c...07/14925356925/ https://www.flickr.c...07/14925364645/
August 17, 201410 yr In the first video I can just hear the engine scream, "put me down! I want to RUN!" (grin) it is neat to see the valve gear moving like that. It is also impressive to see an engine this large handle the tight lego curves in the second video. An impressive feet of engineering.
August 19, 201410 yr Wow that locomotive turns fast! Looks GREAT. Really like the drive rods and valve gear assembly. what motors do you use and how many? I am currently building a "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 and wondering if 4 medium motors is enough. Edited August 19, 201410 yr by someguy
May 11, 20159 yr that's something special! Great job with the boiler! I love the amount of detail you put into it!
