snefroe Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 oh man! this is greaaaatttt!!! can't wait to get my hands on this! green space dudes! yeah!!!! Quote
Ambroise Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 That was just way too clever. Very impressive indeed... Quote
Only Sinner Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The Exo-Suit is going to be so much fun! The grey barrel piece also came in the Droid semi-autonomous proton cannon in 7869 Battle For Geonosis. Quote
Backgild Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I have to applaud Peter on the original design, Mark on the final design, and everyone involved in the reveal for this set. This is the most that I've ever been hyped for a Lego purchase. The final product is a fantastic design, and I love the inclusion of the turtle, but the highlights for me are the green classic space men (and women!). Classic space was always my favorite growing up, but my core Lego years extended from the tail end of classic space through Blackron II, so I never had a space minifig in my favorite color, until now. I am definitely going to be buying multiples of this as soon as it's available. It looks like my spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP! is going to be getting a few new crew members. As for the barrel arms, I think its a bit unfortunate that the initial image of the set focused on that detail. Seeing the set as a whole, they don't really stand out all that much to me. Honestly, the use of the pistols for the roll cage on the original design stands out to me more than the barrels in the final design. It was an ingenious use of parts to get the right angles, but I can't unsee two western style revolvers right in the middle of a space mech. Finally, I just want to say that the comments from Mark Stafford at reddit have been a fascinating look at the design process, and I am impressed with the number of features that we're getting in the final set given the constraints of the project. Sir Walter Maugham Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Oh man, this set ended up looking very, very nice. I liked the original model, but was unsure if I would still be interested after it went through Lego's redesign; but it looks stellar. I even like a few aspects of it more. This is the first set to come out of the Cuusoo (now Ideas) program that I'm really like. And a just a 35$ price tag? I was expecting 50$, or maybe more. I don't think I'll be able to pass this beauty up. Quote

I wonder if they showed us the barrels first as they knew they were the weak part, if we had seen it all at once that's all we would be talking about it but we got our hate for them out the way and the rest of the set is good. They did this with back to the future by showing us the car first which was the weak part then we saw the figs. I agree that roll cage with the guns was the weak part of the original design and I like the new one much better and the way it covers the whole of the spaceman Edited July 5, 2014 by SMC Quote
jonwil Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The more I see this the more I want one. The green spacemen alone make it worth it. I just hope that this wont cost a fortune here in Australia (the Ecto-1 was surprisingly good value) Quote
SMC Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I want to know what it cost too, the set is from here in the UK but still we only get a US price, hoping for £29.99 Edited July 6, 2014 by SMC Quote
Venkefedo Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 But if that was the case then why, like FaeFrost pointed out, is it originally piloted by a white Minifig in Reid's universe(if White are Ground Vehicles then this makes sense)? You hit it right there. It's a ground vehicle mostly used for loading (like a certain yellow exo-suit we all know from a famous space movie). The crew were attacked by pirates, the salvage team investigated and found the suits. Speaking of pirates... while I'd love to see more Blacktron after the cool torsos and references in the CMFs and Space Police III, I also wouldn't mind seeing a newer, smaller pirate faction with aliens & humans and maybe a bit less uniformity. Like maybe a couple types of spacesuits and various other outfits, maybe linked by a few colors more than design. But, whatever, it'd be excellent to see new space pirates of any sort! So excited for this set! Amazing reveal campaign and fun design. Quote
TheNerdyOne_ Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Actually, the Mark actually talked about the colors and what they mean on reddit: There was a second reason to go for green, I've met and talked to Jens Nygaard Knudsen, creator of the Mini-figure and all of the original classic space sets (from day one all the way to Spyrius). According to him the Red and White spacemen started as Cosmonauts and Astronauts. Later they became red pilots and white explorers, yellow were introduced as scientists, blue as security/soldiers, black as spies. Pete and I decided Mech Pilots should be a new colour. Green! http://www.reddit.co...sion_vs/cip86pq So Green isn't salvage crew, they're just there to pilot the mechs! Edited July 6, 2014 by TheNerdyOne_ Quote
Venkefedo Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Ah, but they only found the mechs in the launch video... What was their prior role? Quote
TheNerdyOne_ Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Ah, but they only found the mechs in the launch video... What was their prior role? That was their prior role. Just because they only found the mechs in the video doesn't mean that they can't be experience in mech piloting. Quote
Artanis I Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I never thought ISC's vigs could actually be made without custom parts/decals. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60682 I have always wanted green airtanks. This is one of the best things about the minifigs being green. Wow, love it! Going to have to buy at least a couple, though, for the green minifigs! Indeed! I was originally thinking 1 might be enough, but because they are green 2 sets is now the minimum. Thankfully there are 2 minifigs in the set, that makes it cheaper to get a bunch. Although we don't get a classic helmet, but none of my classic guys have those helmets any more. Quote
Venkefedo Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 The guy was surprised by his friend in the mech, remarks "this is groovy!" when he gets one, and they approached the situation without any suits of their own. All that points to them knowing how to pilot suits, maybe (tho I imagine that's fairly standard knowledge), but not that it's their primary job in the Classic Space Corps. They'd have mini-mechs like Zane & Kai had in Ninjago or in the smallest Exo-Force sets, right? It makes more sense to me for them to have a broader job description than just "mech pilot". Quote
Faefrost Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 For those that missed it. Mark Stafford has been active on Redit, and wonderfully and politely answered a ton of questions about the set, and the process of designing it. And why some things are the way they are. http://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/29tas5/lego_ideas_exosuit_finally_revealed/ He is Lego Nabii Case in point, why Green Spacemen? Because they needed Minifigs in which the body, legs, arms, hands and helmet where currently all available in inventory in the same color. (Just the plastic, printing doesn't count for this.) at the moment the choices for Classic Space colors were Blue (because of Benny) or Black (Darth Vader, etc) But because of TMNT there was also a green option. Mark was familiar with Peter Reid's green custom fig and really liked it. Hence we got something new. White Red and Yellow were apparently not an option because not all the parts were readily available in the needed colors. Oh and important takeaway from that Redit thread. At present there is only 1 ( One!) production run planned for this set. So when you see it grab it! Do not count on there ever being more. Quote
badbob001 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 So Green isn't salvage crew, they're just there to pilot the mechs! In the video, they say they are the salvage team. And green makes me think of recycling. Despite whatever the original roles of the mechs, now that the green team has them, they will use them to make their job easier. Quote
Artanis I Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 At present This will surely change when it sells out first day. AFOLs are gonna go nuts over it. I have foreseen it. Quote

robuko Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I loved Pete's original, I like what Mark has done with it, and the whole team behind the reveal has done an incredible job. Best launch ever. I wonder why it uses the large ball joints instead of the new ones- for strength? And green CS figs. Win!! Quote

Sir Brickalot Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) According to Brickset, the exo suit is only going to be a single run production. EDIT: Ninja'd. Quite a while ago actually. Edited July 6, 2014 by Sir Brickalot Quote
1974 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I would not put too much stock in those roles asigned to the various coloured spacefigs. Yes, it may come straight from the designer, but just look at the sets. There's zero consensus Quote

I be curious to see how it would look modded with the smaller joints. Quote
seba123 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Do you guys know when it actually will be released? Day one buy for sure... Quote
