DPrime Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 does anyone consider the dropship to be a 2014 sci fi set as it looks it to me, like something out of I robot Yeah, kinda. Fill it up with old Space Police minifigs and it'd be perfect! Quote
Herky Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I was skeptical of the spaceship at first, but after seeing that video, I am pumped to get it now, I know it says that it will be sold in March and the US is $125 for the cost. I am thinking they mean March 1st on the sale date, am going to TLG store tomorrow anyway so will ask...thanks for posting that video. Quote
SMC Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Do we know when we will see the Cuusoo Mech seeing as Ghostbusters sets has already been seen? Quote
Lyichir Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Do we know when we will see the Cuusoo Mech seeing as Ghostbusters sets has already been seen? Probably not for some time. The order for those sets was reversed, partly because of the difficulty of getting the mech right and partly so that the Ghostbusters set could make it to consumers before the end of the anniversary year. Artanis I Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Horror, horror, shock & horror! Galaxy Squad is gone from S@H! Already! The 2nd half only came out here in September! 6 months?! Exclamation! Question: when is this SPACESHIP being released? I am in anticipation. I don't really want an oversized pirate ship, I want an oversized space ship. Quote

Question: when is this SPACESHIP being released? I am in anticipation. I don't really want an oversized pirate ship, I want an oversized space ship. Sad. I really wish I bought a bunch of 40-50% GS from Target and Amazon before Christmas. I have really grown to like them, just which all of them were azure and white. Quote
TimH Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Bricknblue, check out your local Walmart they have the Galaxy Squad sets on clearance. Yesterday i picked up the Eradicator Mech for $25. Quote
Colossus Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 My Walmart as well! Be sure to check both the Lego aisle and also the Clearance Toys aisle, though. There were some sets in one aisle and not the other. Quote
Artanis I Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Just realised after this long weekend of buying & building some new sets, that I think the models that would've been used for Galaxy Squad or its Sci-Fi replacement are used in new Chima & Ninjago sets. The Chima sets this year are very similar to the alien sets, and the Ninjago sets are obviously space ships... unfortunately for my taste, they are a bit over-the-top, whereas GS had a more mature aesthetic. I suppose that is added motivation for TLG to get rid of GS sooner rather than later, so that it doesn't interfere with sales of those two themes. (Like them or lump them) Quote
TimH Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 The Galaxy Squad star slicer (70703) is $20 at shop at home. Quote
gunm Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 (edited) The Galaxy Squad star slicer (70703) is $20 at shop at home. Yes, I saw that and picked one up. The bug thing is a little disappointing, but the vehicle is great. Horror, horror, shock & horror! Galaxy Squad is gone from S@H! Already! The 2nd half only came out here in September! 6 months?! Exclamation! Really? It's still available for US S@H. Edited March 15, 2014 by gunm Quote
Ambroise Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 The complete Galaxy Squad range is also gone from S@H in France (and all over EU I think). Too bad, I really enjoyed it. Quote
Samiens Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 In the UK they're on sale everywhere- good for ne, first non-licensed theme I've bought since coming out of the dark ages and I've picked up enough sets to get all 4 teams and all the buggoid minifigures. (The Star Slicer is the only model I own that disappointed me but i wanted that red Buggoid!) Quote
Lyichir Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Just realised after this long weekend of buying & building some new sets, that I think the models that would've been used for Galaxy Squad or its Sci-Fi replacement are used in new Chima & Ninjago sets. (Like them or lump them) The Ninjago sets definitely aren't reappropriated Space sets. They have pretty much the same aesthetics as previous years of Ninjago sets have had, lack the splitting functions that were the core of the Galaxy Squad vehicles, and most importantly wouldn't have any reason to be swiped from another theme—the designers have had longer to focus solely on this year's Ninjago sets than they've had for any other year of sets, since there was no second wave of Ninjago sets last year. So why retrofit other designs for a different theme when they've had longer than ever to develop something brand new? Maybe you could make a case for the Chima sets (especially the wave one sets with the bugs), but even then it's far from a given—it's far more likely that they simply decided to move from the previous year's jungle animal motifs to "creepier" jungle animals—bats and spiders and scorpions, oh my! And the summer sets are completely different, with a fire vs. ice theme, but using animal vehicles clearly designed for Chima. Perhaps one or two sets used unused designs from Space themes—after all, Mark Stafford, a designer for both themes as well as Space, has admitted himself to taking inspiration from unused Power Miners designs in themes like Atlantis. But it certainly wasn't an across-the-board reskinning of other set designs. Quote
Artanis I Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I didn't quite mean to say that they took already designed Galaxy Squad sets and turned them into the other, but more that they figured that the hunger for space ships or buggish beasties could be satisfied by the other (and also that they wouldn't want another theme eating into possible Ninjago or Chima sales by having similar models). A bit like releasing a Corsair ship or more in place of a line of pirate sets. "Hey, the pirate fans'll dig it" Quote
gunm Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I kind of felt the same way about Ninjago, which started out more about the spinning top game element, and has evolved into much more outlandish sci fi with the mechs and vehicles, but it seems more like an homage to power rangers and manga/anime than a replacement for Sci Fi outright. Aanchir Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) I kind of felt the same way about Ninjago, which started out more about the spinning top game element, and has evolved into much more outlandish sci fi with the mechs and vehicles, but it seems more like an homage to power rangers and manga/anime than a replacement for Sci Fi outright. Well, even at the beginning, Ninjago had its share of outlandish sci-fi, what with the absurdly large skeleton vehicles. A lot of people make a big deal of the increase in science-fantasy elements in Ninjago, but to a great extent all it did was more thoroughly distribute the sci-fi elements that the skeleton sets already used. Some of the other sci-fi stuff was even hinted at in previous arcs — one of the original Ninjago online games in 2011 (Spinjitzu Smash Party) featured "nindroids" as enemies, which makes me think they may have been in the story bible in some capacity. I've even seen some early concept art that was arguably even more sci-fi than the current story arc, and that's saying something! Can't manage to find where I saw that, though. I think someone linked it here on Eurobricks, but I forget what topic it was. EDIT: Here it is, linked in this post. VERY Power Rangers. Edited April 11, 2014 by Aanchir Quote
TheLegoDr Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 ^That's awesome. I may have actually purchased some of those sets had the nindroids looked like that. I haven't really got into Ninjago so far, but there have been some neat sets/figures. Quote
slacker int Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Great update on the CUUSOO Exso Suit posted over on New Elementary Edited May 4, 2014 by slacker int Quote
danth Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Whoa, that logo is great! Thanks for the link, I've been anxiously awaiting an update on this. Judging by the logo, they're playing up the Classic Space connection, which is the best news I could have hoped for. Quote
SMC Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) agreed a good year for classic space but I really hope we get a new old helmet but no new molds right edit: the new broken helmet in white would be ok Edited April 17, 2014 by SMC Quote
