Scouty Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 No, the 10,000 ones are just chrome plated, like a spray paint. There are 5 solid gold 3POs that are going to be given via a contest. Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 are these c3po s going to be solid gold? I havnt heard much about them No, they just have a shiny chrome-gold coat, however there are 5 gold-plated c3PO that are given away in a contest that you can write-in to participate in Quote
morris Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 Except that those were high at the start because of limited demand. Then more were made, enough so EVERYONE could have one, so there was less competition. However the number of available figs will never increase, it will just go down, and slowly they will start disappearing off ebay till there's 1 or 2 a week at the most. The price will be UP, then it will MAYBE go down to $200/fig, and then it will SKYROCKET back up to probably $300-400US when the supply runs out. That's really not the point... have you ever consider the people who bought it with 250USD may later on feel it is unworthy to buy a figure for 250USD? the price will just falls to a point where it would be affordable for anyone who seriously collects lego star wars. it is only 250USD now because this is the start and there are some really foolish and rich buyers. I think we will see more of an inelastic relationship than a perfectly inverse one ;)->small quantity with a large demand ->precious metal ->'collectability' driven mostly by afols unless i am mistaken. are these c3po s going to be solid gold? I havnt heard much about them just a point, the C3PO is not solid gold, so your point of precious metal does not apply Quote
oo7 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 OK. Just think of it this way. The value of all mint LEGO increases as it ages. Older LEGO is much more rare than newer LEGO. Somewhat due to a good point that 4j made, much LEGO is kept by children until it's ruined or thrown away. After a year or so of this fad where people sell them as soon as they open the box, as time goes on less and less will be sold and they will become more rare and more expensive. Quote

Exactly, oo7 hit the nail on the head. Tell me morris, are sets from 1970 really dirt cheap? No, in fact they're extremely expensive. In time many 3PO will be broken or lost or damaged or thrown away. The numbers will decrease even more. The supply is extremely limited. Look at it this way, my home town, which is small has more than 10,000 people. Now look at the rest of the US. Then compare that number to everyone NOT in the US who wants this. Sure, not everyone in the world will want one, but the number far exceeds 10,000. And when demand exceeds supply, the price goes up. When they start being more common in a month or two, I'd love the price to be around $100 or maybe even $75, though that's probably wishful thinking. Even then the price would go back up dramatically when they stopped being available. Looks like there are very desperate people trying to get them, and spoiling it for lots of kids and AFOLs alike: Link to FBTB thread That's a really horrible story, now I'm worried myself...should I buy from Lego themselves (S@H), or would my chances be better at a store...I'm sure there have to be some repercussions from this all for the odds of getting one. Although I have to disagree on the point you made, I'd bet it was an AFOL who did it, a kid would get caught, but an adult could be sneaky about it. How it happened I still don't know though. Quote

supernova Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 The good thing is there are currently about 6-7 3POs on ebay now (and hopefully more to come), and no one are buying those at $260 and above, so there's a good chance prices will fall. But by how much, only the market can determine that :-( Quote
morris Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 guys, stop worrying about it ok? listen to me for a second, yes, people are opening unpurchased sets in an attempt to find the gold C3PO yes, the price is high at 250USD per golden C3PO yes, we are all so desperate to get one and the idea of not having one really does KILL BUT!!!!!!! have you ever considered the fact that there might be a chance LEGO shall produce more than 10,000 golden C3PO? the claim of only 10,000 produced could be a false claim just so to drag up sets price and ultimately lego's annual profit if you guys are so worried now about the limited golden C3PO, what will happen if LEGO announces a release of 10,000 silver R2D2 by 2008 and then a crystal palpatine holograph by 2009 and a platinum vader by 2010? then you will NEVER REST! just enjoy your lego. i am telling you, everyone WILL get one. Vader Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Unless lego produce more of these chrome covered c3p0's the price wont go down, as others have stated the older a piece gets the more likely it is to rise in price. Jango, watto, uncle ben, jawas etc have all risen in price over the last few years as is the trend with figs that appear in larger sets, as this 3p0 is a limited edition it wont go down in price and if by some miracle it does it wont be by much. If you think that a fig limited to just 10,000 worldwide will go down to $50 then you really havent been following lego. Oh and morris for the last time quit with the large aggressive font size, im seriously fed up with telling you that now. Quote

Trionx Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 the claim of only 10,000 produced could be a false claim just so to drag up sets price and ultimately lego's annual profit Then shouldn't LEGO say "12,000" or "213,000" ( X-D )? if they are trying to get more people to but the sets, then why would they say there're more than they're advertising? (especially if these figs are expensive to make I don't think that they would make more than 10,000 ;-) ) if you guys are so worried now about the limited golden C3PO, what will happen if LEGO announces a release of 10,000 silver R2D2 by 2008 and then a crystal palpatine holograph by 2009 and a platinum vader by 2010? they had C-3PO this year because it was the Star Wars 30th anniversary, they aren't going to have it every year. :-P i am telling you, everyone WILL get one. You know, I've been reading this topic and I don't quite understand why you are so certain that we will all get one. 8-| right now I only have 5 USD and I only have 2 SW sets for this year, I'm allowed to get only 2 sets a month, so I don't think I'll be getting one. ( :'-( ) Quote
Norrington Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 have you ever considered the fact that there might be a chance LEGO shall produce more than 10,000 golden C3PO? No. Because, why would Lego produce mre scince they have allready advertised that there are only 10000. Because then, if they started selling it in another set, people would be angry because they spent $100's on all the SW sets for this year to get 1 . As in: A man walks into a toy store and buys alot of SW Lego, and he spends well over $500. When he gets home he finds that only one of his sets contains a Chrome C3po. Ignoring that he will have to hungry for a month to pay for all that Lego, he proudly displays it on a shelf. 2 months later: TLG decides that it was unfair to turn buyers against one-another over that stupid Chrome C3po, and decide to release it in a $30.00 set. Very gyped that he had to spend $500 and go hungry for a month, the man decides that he will get people to write complaints, protest, boycott, etc. Capiche? then you will NEVER REST! just enjoy your lego. i am telling you, everyone WILL get one.yes, things are looking brighter already, right? *sweet* *sweet* *sweet* No, we will not. Being an optimist myself, I hate to kill your delusional, wishfull thinking. As previously stated, there are only 10,000 and the US has over 2 Million people. Alot of the children who get one will ruin it, throw it away etc., and AFOLs will keep it, and scalpers will sell it for outragous prices. Either way, very few of the World's population will get one. And that means that we WILL NOT all get one. Quote
Scouty Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Alot of the children who get one will ruin it, throw it away etc. Wow, everyone is sure that these children are horrible, horrible things. Hehee. You get one, lucky you. You don't get one, oh, well, life will go on, and something else big will happen. Patience is a virtue. Quote
Norrington Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Wow, everyone is sure that these children are horrible, horrible things. I'm not saying that ALL children will junk it or mistreat it, but alot of them have no idea of it's true value. Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) Listen guys this is getting out of hand and I'm THIS close to closing the topic Let's list the facts: 1. Not everyone will get one 2. There are only 10,000. Period. 3. Their price will ultimately rise with time. So just calm down. Morris, I know you want one...and cheap, but it doesn't work that way. So either try your luck with sets (in the US, or buy your sets from the US or something), or save up and buy it off ebay and/or BL. Edited June 8, 2007 by Starwars4J Quote

xwingyoda Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Sure there are only 10.000... for now !! That doesn't exclude the possiblity for TLC to have it mass produced in a year's time, so what are all those arguments regarding numbers ? Its absurd really (I feel like reading Kafka right now lool) Bottom line this is just a marketing strategy (once again, for now !!), end of story !! *yoda* Quote

Come on lets face it, how many times did we ask for guns instead of megaphones and for great MF packs ? We've been ranting on that for numerous years and only in 2007 TLC finally decided to listen to us (and the line started in 1999 !! 8 bloody years !!). Also lets not forgetthe cost for TLC !! It would be odd to bear such a production cost for only 10k units (in one part of the world !! But thats just me !! Lets not forget that Viking line story: vikings were not suppose to reach the US territory but TLC finally decided to have that line there !! Lets pray for a positive evolution of things ;-) With numerous years ahead of us, I think they will release both the gold and silver droids in regular sets !! *yoda* Quote
