Legoman Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 What are you talking about ? We received the add as every other european website... EB members can particpate but you have to be European. does that include New Zealand? Quote
Siegfried Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 does that include New Zealand? Unlikely. As I am sure you know Australia and New Zealand gets the shortest end of the stick. (Just look at the price we have to pay for the Sandcrawler and the Falcon.) Quote
Legoman Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 what! can anyone confirm this.if it's true i will really go crazy. :-X Quote
iamded Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Aw, us Kiwi's never get the good stuff. Wait, we got the new castle line. Cancel that statement. Quote
Siegfried Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Aw, us Kiwi's never get the good stuff. Wait, we got the new castle line. Cancel that statement. Darn. There are still none of the new sets in Hobart (Tasmania) yet. I was forced to buy the AquaBase instead last week. Poor me... Quote
morris Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 Listen guys this is getting out of hand and I'm THIS close to closing the topicLet's list the facts: 1. Not everyone will get one 2. There are only 10,000. Period. 3. Their price will ultimately rise with time. So just calm down. Morris, I know you want one...and cheap, but it doesn't work that way. So either try your luck with sets (in the US, or buy your sets from the US or something), or save up and buy it off ebay and/or BL. 1. what do you mean by everyone? if you mean everyone on earth then i agree with you, but if you mean a true sw lego fan, like i said there will be enough 2. 2 doubts. one, lego announced there are 10,000 . but how are you so sure there are infact only 10,000? could there be a possibility that they produced more than 10,000 and announced that there are only 10,000 to mark up their profit margin? have that crossed your mind? two, yes, like you said, 10,000 period. maybe 100,000 later on. 3. price will ultimately rise in time, then we cna only tell in time later on, not now. Sure there are only 10.000... for now !! That doesn't exclude the possiblity for TLC to have it mass produced in a year's time, so what are all those arguments regarding numbers ? Its absurd really (I feel like reading Kafka right now lool)Bottom line this is just a marketing strategy (once again, for now !!), end of story !! *yoda* marketing strategy, i agree, very well spotted. like, does anyone really think lego would just produce a mould and assembly line and chrome plating equipment just to produce 10,000 figures? i doubt it. Quote
iamded Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 (edited) I can go without one of these. I mean, sure, It'd be pretty awesome if I somehow got one, but I can live without it. I like my plastic C3-PO just fine. Edited June 17, 2007 by iamded Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 1. what do you mean by everyone? if you mean everyone on earth then i agree with you, but if you mean a true sw lego fan, like i said there will be enough How are you defining a "true sw lego fan"? You've been asked this before and never answered. And also what makes you think all "true sw lego fans" have the kind of money to go out and buy them? Not everyone can thrown down $200-300 on a fig 2. 2 doubts. one, lego announced there are 10,000 . but how are you so sure there are infact only 10,000? could there be a possibility that they produced more than 10,000 and announced that there are only 10,000 to mark up their profit margin? have that crossed your mind? two, yes, like you said, 10,000 period. maybe 100,000 later on. I have only one thing to say to this: show me one piece of proof that there's ANY indication that they'll make more than 10,000 and that this isn't just your hopeful dreaming. It's just bad business practice to make more of something once you've promised a limited amount, there would be backlash at TLG if they did so. But again, if you have ANYTHING to indicated they might do that, it would make your claim much more valid. 3. price will ultimately rise in time, then we cna only tell in time later on, not now. marketing strategy, i agree, very well spotted. No, the price will increase with time. That's a given. Period. like, does anyone really think lego would just produce a mould and assembly line and chrome plating equipment just to produce 10,000 figures? i doubt it. They already have the mold, Morris. All they have to do is put a different color paint in the last machine it goes through. The paint IS more expensive though, or they would have done this from the start, so they won't be mass-producing these things. I'm sure 10,000 was carefully worked out as the point where profit cuts off. Quote
Asuka Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 And also what makes you think all "true sw lego fans" have the kind of money to go out and buy them? oo7 Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Darn. There are still none of the new sets in Hobart (Tasmania) yet. I was forced to buy the AquaBase instead last week. Poor me... oo7 Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Acknowledged. I am doing all I can to get the Thetis in to Shipshape. I'll rendezvous with your fleet in fourteen hundred hours. We should blockade the harbor to prevent any unwanted interception, gradually move in from the Northeast, and then fire upon the Armada's outposts off the starboard bow. Quote
Siegfried Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Victory is certain then! Lord Admiral will regret the way he treated us after the battle of Port Hobart. Our vengance is at hand. One question; who gets his toy soldiers? I have always wanted them. Quote
morris Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 He he, I guess a true SW LEGO fan just would sell his kidney and his mother too to get that fig.... :-D well......... i guess normally a person would have other things to sell before giving up his kidney and mother. but like i said, how can anyone claim to be a true sw fan without one of these droid? Quote
jamtf Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 but like i said, how can anyone claim to be a true sw fan without one of these droid? I consider myself a true SW fan but since I live in Europe and refuse to pay lots of money for just one minifig that I already own in a different colour, I am well comfortable not owning it. :-) But of course it is OK for you to think I am not a true SW fan... as long as I know the truth myself. :-| Quote
Siegfried Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 but like i said, how can anyone claim to be a true sw fan without one of these droid? Quite easily. I have a friend who buys the occasional Star Wars Lego set (he owns the Death Star, the UCS X-Wing, the Sail Barge and many more), but he spends most of his Star Wars money (which is most of his money) on the Star Wars minitures as he plays the game a lot. He buys a lot of these for silly prices on eBay and he also buys most of the normal Star Wars figures. (Especially clones-if he sees one with a slightly different paint job he will buy it.) He is also one of those people who refuses to open them. He is making a fan film, and went to Star Wars 3 in costume. He has been a Star Wars fan for years, as well as a Lego fan. Yet he has no intention of buying a Gold C3PO. Why should he? They aren't really that special (same mold, different paint) to pay 300 USD for. Quote
morris Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 I consider myself a true SW fan but since I live in Europe and refuse to pay lots of money for just one minifig that I already own in a different colour, I am well comfortable not owning it. :-) But of course it is OK for you to think I am not a true SW fan... as long as I know the truth myself. :-| but what other collection do you own? this is what i have stated earlier, anyone can claim they are a true sw fan but their claim might be false. in order to verify if a person is a true sw fan a line must be drawn, and this golden droid is a very good trial to test anyone who claims to be a "true sw lego fan" They aren't really that special (same mold, different paint) to pay 300 USD for. they are not really "that special" compared to the REAL GOLD c3po however, they are still "special" compared to the normal, dull c3po Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 (edited) Morris, what about people who are "true" star wars fans who just don't have the FUNDING to buy these things? If your argument is that any true star wars fan will have one, then you're not talking about a true star wars fan, you're talking about a star wars fan who likes and collects lego who has hundreds of dollars to blow on a single fig. What about SW fans who don't like lego at all? What about SW fans who are broke? What about SW fans who don't like this fig? What about SW fans who can't get them even if they try? You can't just go around and say that if you don't have one you're not a "true" SW fan...that's just a baseless qualifier...does it matter what the rest of his collection was? You aren't the person to decide if they're a true SW fan or not. And there are more than 10,000 true SW fans out there, Morris. And guess what? There are more than 100,000 true SW fans out there. Edit: Well said, Sinner. Also Morris, what about the gold plated C3PO? Will they end up making 100,000 of those too? 8-| Edited June 17, 2007 by Starwars4J Quote
Siegfried Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 in order to verify if a person is a true sw fan a line must be drawn, and this golden droid is a very good trial to test anyone who claims to be a "true sw lego fan" So you are saying that a 3 year old kid who had one of these magic C3POs is more of a Star Wars fan than someone had every other bit of Star Wars merchandise and could quote all six movies plus owned the original draft of Star Wars? Don't you think that would be a bit silly? Face facts; owning this or any other bit of Star Wars merchandise is little to do with being a true Star Wars fan. It is a painted bit of plastic, no more. however, they are still "special" compared to the normal, dull c3po True, but not enough to spend enough to buy several large Star Wars sets just for one painted bit of plastic that you would be too scared to touch. Buy some paint and do it youself if it matters that much to you. I plan to buy the MTT and maybe the HyperSpace ring instead. Quote
