Well....none of my arguments are lost on this forum and with the new magnet piece that's out, I'm wagering the scrap bricks in my Lego collection that either a construction site or a harbor will be released over the summer.

I would make wagers over the airport or coast guard themes returning, but those are on 4 year rotation according to my math. So 2021 is when we'll see those again.

EDIT: Airport actually comes out every 5 years. My bad.

If we ever see a proper reboot or spiritual successor to Adventurers in the near future, I have a few opinions on how it should be executed...

  • While a present day incarnation would be new and refreshing to see for a change, I feel that'd likely conflict and overlap with City's annual "exploration" subthemes, so it'd be best if it maintained a period setting like the original Adventurers theme, Monster Fighters, and Pharaoh's Quest had done, preferably set anywhere from around the latter half of the 19th Century (i.e. the Victorian Era) to the first half of the 20th Century (i.e. the Machine Age).
  • For its debut wave, a reboot should kick-off with a globetrotting adventure instead of being exclusively situated within one particular locale, with its protagonists traveling to the ruins of many different ancient cultures around the world in search of key artifacts aiding in their search of a more elusive, legendary civilization.
  • Having said just that, I think a reboot should focus more on "lost worlds" rather than well-documented ancient civilizations, be they directly based upon or inspired after legendary or fictional lands such as Atlantis, Shangri-La, Hyperboria, and so forth.
  • As far as protagonists go, I'd prefer a reboot to take more after Monster Fighters rather than the original Adventurers theme in its character dynamics, where there isn't necessarily a titular, Indiana Jones-like hero as the focal point of the narrative, but rather a band of heroes with differing backgrounds and skills. On the other hand, the theme's primary antagonists should be competing "Adventurers" with more malevolent intents, more in line with the original Adventurers theme's dynamic between its own protagonists and antagonists.
  • When it comes to the vehicular builds, they should have some modest degree of retro-futuristic fantasticalness in the spirit of Steampunk and/or Dieselpunk art and design, rather than just merely taking after more realistic examples from the theme's timeframe.

I'd like to see another take on Knights Kingdom or Vikings, two interesting themes I was into in a big way as a kid. Something along either of those general lines would be pretty interesting - especially if you consider the possibilities of a way to interconnect CCBS and system directly without having to go through Technic connections when thinking about the former's brick-covered action figures.

Yeah, I know that's basically halfway between Nexo Knights and Chima-without-the-animal-people; unfortunately, both of those themes were smack dab in the middle of my dark ages, where I only picked up the occasional Cty or Friends set.

Still waiting on a classic pirate reboot myself.  Classic Space or Space Police would be great too.  Sad that Pharaoh's Quest & Monster Fighters only lasted for 1 year.  I liked those too.

Hero Factory. It had a lot of untapped potential story-wise. The theme ended on a cliffhanger, so there is a lot of potential for a reboot if they continued the story from where it ended.

I think Ultra Agents and Lord Of The Rings

I've always thought TLG did not serve LOTR sets right, half of the potential scenes, characters and beasts were absent, while half of the existing ones were too sporadic, too lackluster.

I'm not a constraction guy, but between the two, I did prefer Hero Factory over Bionicle as far as in-house lines go, as it wasn't as "grimdark" as Bionicle and seemed more flexible in its potential for more varied subthemes.

Adventurers obviously. And as much as I loved Pharaohs Quest I don't want another one off wave.

Agreed with you there on Pharaoh's Quest, hence why it's hard for me to count it as a proper Adventurers revival. A proper reboot should keep its horizons open for broader potential if it were to be successful enough to warrant further waves.

Good luck with that. Castle has never been "not kiddie". The last couple of Kingdoms Castles were 7+.

I'd argue that the Kingdoms line is the least "kiddie" Castle theme ever produced in Lego.

Doesn't mean kids can't play with it, but it's the most authentic to reality Castle line yet, making it less pandering to kids, in my opinion.

Edit: I was on the wrong page and didn't realise how old the post I was replying to truly was. Eh, long day.

I never thought I'd meet some other Hero Factory fans. Who was your favorite character?

Actually I'm not really a fan of the theme, I just prefer its more open-ended approach over Bionicle's heavier reliance on its lore.

If you want to meet more Bionicle/Hero Factory fans, I'll suggest going to the TTV Message boards, since that's the place with the most fans. You'll meet plenty of them there, I assure you.

As far as my favourite HF character, I'll definitely go with Furno.

I definitely agree on that. While objectively speaking Bionicle is the better theme, HF still has more potential for varied subthemes, as you said.

While I'm not saying it would've, Hero Factory was definitely more capable of evolving in a manner similar to the path Ninjago has taken had it continued on. Heck, by its name alone it's easily seen that Hero Factory was more of a generic, catch-all constraction theme, making it more conducive of a style or vibe that'd have been more up my alley such as Decopunk and/or Teslapunk... :smug:

+1 for a reboot of something like Pharaoh's Quest (if only because it would make it possible to get some Egyptian guys without paying obscene prices on Bricklink)

You mean the tannish licensed arabian guys like in Indiana Jones sets or just simple yellow dudes with ancient/modern egyptian wares?

What I had really liked about Adventurers was the early post-WWI period it has been set. I fear we're only going to see that timeline again with a new Indiana Jones movie.

I mean figs like the bad guys (mummies etc) in the Pharaoh's Quest sets. I have wanted to try a Stargate MOC for a while now but getting the right kind of Egyptian guys to pull it off is too expensive.

Pffft, not even Indy 5 will be set around then, as it'll chronologically take-off from where Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had left-off in 1958 in accordance with Harrison Ford's age currently... :sceptic:

Still hoping for a reboot of a traditional Castle line, still plenty to explore in that, even in different locations/eras.

The Prince of Persia theme I suppose is the closest LEGO has been to Desert/Castle combination but there's a whole lot more Castle history in Africa/Middle East/Asia.

Same for me. I like the setting in the 1920s.

I'd find a late 1800's "Vernian" setting or a modern approach to be interesting for a change; but yes, nothing embodies the pulpy tropes of the Adventurers theme better than the 1920's, the '30s, and even the '40s. Anything before or after those decades can come across as either too Steampunk, too Atompunk, and so forth...
