Mark275 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Hi everyone! This is my first time entering in a Eurobricks contest so i'm really excited . I decided to make a containertruck (like 8052 (the old one)). I started building very optimistic , 200 parts max would be easily possible i thought. When i finished my model, it counted around 250 parts, so I had to remove some parts. This was unfortunately at the expense of the beautiful and firmness. It now counts exactly 200 parts. However, I'm not totally happy with the result, and I hoped that some of you would have some tips how to improve my model . Have a nice day, Mark See the lxf file here: MINI Mini (8052) Containertruck.lxf (sorry for my bad English) Edited July 9, 2014 by Mark275 Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Use smaller wheels. You can always remove one axle to gain parts. Quote
Mark275 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 meeh, making it smaller isn't really an option, I need the space for the LA and boom-system, I guess its just to big. Quote
Jeroen Ottens Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Nice entry, with room for improvement To remove parts: - simplify the hooks, they look quite part intensive - use 5L liftarms for the front window (saves 4 parts) - If you make the containerbed 5 wide you can save a lot there - Use the technic frames 5x7 or 5x11 for the chassis Quote
Mark275 Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Thank you! Great ideas! Let's see how they will improve the truck :) Quote

Mark275 Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) Hi everyone, I've made some improvements to the containertruck (thanks to Jeroen Ottens ). However I still think the cab is quite empty and I've, nevertheless the tips form Jeroen, still only 2 parts to spare. In the mean time I've been working on an other version of the truck, much and much smaller, because I realized that the truck is probably to big for a 200 parts creation. Attempt 1: Attempt 2: (note that the colours and some of the parts aren't the final colours or parts) Tell me what you think , Mark Edited July 11, 2014 by Mark275 Quote
Rockbrick Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Nice - Big brother to this little chap: Perhaps use the same rear box as it will save on parts and lego used a city part in a technic set (shock! horror!) so its ok for us to do same? Quote

Mark275 Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 So, I went on with the micro or the mini mini version . Build in LDD and improved the cab a bit. The part count is exactly 200 . I think its time to order the missing parts and built it for real. Thanks for all the tips/help . Tips are still welcome if you see any improvements . Mark275 Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Hi all, I'm still struggling with the container, in my opinion is the container way to small and the hooking mechanism isn't to good either i think. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8I6HN_wpCkHZ3JRdlEtQVF1am8/edit?usp=docslist_api https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8I6HN_wpCkHUF9vb3FScDdMNjA/edit?usp=docslist_api Quote
barman Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 The final entry is wonderful. Just nice to see the work in progress you made and improving the model quiet a bit The container is indeed a bit to small, but getting it under 200 parts, I think you made a good call. Quote
Rockbrick Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 there is a larger one - two appear in Lego City set 7998 Quote
Mark275 Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 Made my final entry last night (just in time ;) ) Thanks for all the ideas and support :) Quote
