plastic_ati Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Now I think I will change my mind next year. Normally I'm not too interested in buying City sets, but the bikers, the Swamp Police and even the Demolition theme seems to be nice for me. Quote
Legonardo Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 actually some nice looking sets in this line up, and i'm one who normally wouldn't give a hoot for city stuff Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) Ah, yes I'm going to be broke next year ! There are more positives than negatives in this wave of sets......female crook , new racing bike design , now the truck with portaloo ! Is it just me or do the de-construction crews and swamp police have new torsos ? Edited October 6, 2014 by lightningtiger Quote
Cammo Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 What the hell did they do to the crocodiles. Not that I'm collecting City sets but I really don't like the fact that they 'upgrade' their molds even if the old ones are perfect (or even better). Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Wouldn't they be alligators in a swamp ? I prefer the new ones for city, but restoring classic town or whatever from the 80's.....the old croc/alligator is better (and yes, I know they are different) Quote
Dorayaki Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) As predicted there are Gail's headgears reused, though not seeing Emmet's ones for unknown reason. Also, nice to see a progress of gender ratio. I especially like the new generic villainess face. The Swamp Police Station is a good thought (neglecting the overrated police system), but I think it lacks some jungle and river pieces to highlight what the station looks like in the box art. My question is why there is still a "racer" set classified as City set while TLC is reintroducing a licensed vehicle theme. Of course, that is a motorcycle set, but it seems like TLG is not planning on getting licenses of famous motorcycle brand. Perhaps every licensed motorcycle needs a new outer case mold and that doesn't benefit? Edited October 6, 2014 by Dorayaki Quote
romdam Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 How do the drivers get in/out of those demolition site sets? The driver of the digger is like permanetly encased inside... Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 We need to see the rest of the sets for the first wave to check on the female minifig count.....though it appears must medium to large size set has one or two females in them.....the swamp police has two females by the looks of it. How do the drivers get in/out of those demolition site sets? The driver of the digger is like permanetly encased inside... They might use either the Force or magic ? One day Lego will come up with a cab with doors for such vehicles, maybe. Quote

Perhaps every licensed motorcycle needs a new outer case mold and that doesn't benefit? Hmm... interesting. It's gonna be pretty hard to get good deets of, let's say, a Ducati Desmosedici GP14 or Honda RC214V, but in general, race bikes are smooth and a tad bit thin, with only a few holes and offsets in front, mostly in line with the legs. And if that's how they look like, new, MotoGP-style exterior molds can save a few milligrams of plastic, and that's OK with TLG.The only thing they have to do is badger MotoGP, the manufacturers, and the riders (yes, riders) to give the license. TLG will tell them they'll sell both play sets and UCS sets, and maybe even Bionicle-sized figs to couple the latter if VR46 wants a tad more. The only problem will be whether or not Dorna Sports will want a separate theme just for them, or whehter it'll slot in Speed Champions. The latter, of course, will make more sense. YouTube loads really slow on my tablet so I'm not doing much yt watching. Quote
XAxles Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) But, you know, SBK is also good to badger to get a license. Edited October 6, 2014 by XAxles Quote
Slurpifier Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Lovin' the motorcycles! I'll probably pick up a few of the Swamp Police sets, as I haven't bought any Lego Police material in years! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I'm actually pretty disappointed that the blue car roof in the tow truck preliminaries got changed to white. Quote
Lyichir Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The old crocodiles were some of the blockiest animal molds that hadn't yet been updated. The new one's contours are more in line with newer animals like the new horses, dogs or sharks. I'm not sold on the printed eyes, which lack the simplicity of the old indented eyes or even the printed eyes of typical minifigures. But otherwise these new crocs seem to be a welcome improvement. lightningtiger Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I'm actually pretty disappointed that the blue car roof in the tow truck preliminaries got changed to white. Well, you can always change it if you have a spare blue roof piece. Now I don't see why some people are not happy with printed eyes on the croc/alligator......we all over joyed with seeing new torsos or leg printing ? Quote

Now I don't see why some people are not happy with printed eyes on the croc/alligator......we all over joyed with seeing new torsos or leg printing ? It's not that I don't like the croc or even don't like the idea of printed eyes. I just didn't particularly like of the eye design itself. And actually, upon closer inspection, it looks perfectly fine. The reflection on one of the pics made it look like the eyes had whites, which would be a bit TOO much detail for my liking, but a second look made me realize that that was just a trick of the light and the yellow irises and brow/lid were the extent of the printing. With that in mind, it looks much better. Quote

jonwil Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Well, you can always change it if you have a spare blue roof piece. Except that the roof piece in question doesn't exist in blue. People were excited because its a new color (just like people got excited about the prelims showing new colors for the "brick" brick that appear to have disappeared from the final sets. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Right--I drive a blue sedan, and I was hoping that I'd finally be able to recreate it with that roof piece. Ah, well. Quote

People were excited because its a new color (just like people got excited about the prelims showing new colors for the "brick" brick that appear to have disappeared from the final sets. I don't see any new colors of masonry bricks that disappeared from final sets - 60076 has the same colors the prelim had, and as far as I know we don't have final pictures for 60075, which was the set that had sand green bricks in the prelim. (Not that that's technically a new color anyway, but so far it's only in a Fusion set.) Quote
jonwil Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I could have sworn someone saw dark red "brick" bricks in a prelim picture although I cant find the mention of it now. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I could have sworn someone saw dark red "brick" bricks in a prelim picture although I cant find the mention of it now. Was that in the larger of the de-construction sets ? Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I could have sworn someone saw dark red "brick" bricks in a prelim picture although I cant find the mention of it now. The dark red "brick" bricks are in the new pirate sets. Quote
SMC Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Does anyone know where I can find pictures of the new sets not on brickset? Quote
