Lyichir Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 They make movies all the time based on brands they don't own. They are in business to make movies and they have done really well with the lego movie. Just as TLG makes sets based on licenses that they don't own all the time, Star Wars is a great example. Should TLG drop Star Wars because they don't want to be tied to brand they don't own? It's called business, and it's about making money. And there are many ways to do it. Oh, I have no doubt that they'll keep making Lego movies if they can. But there are already two other Lego movies in production, and it's stupid to assume that EVERY other movie announced by Warner Animation Group will be a Lego movie, especially when Warner Bros. owns many high-value cartoon properties ranging from Looney Tunes to the entire DC animated universe. So many sites are reporting this as "three new Lego movies", but the actual news suggests no such thing Quote
klinton Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 They are, though, confirmed to be working on a second one....right? As long as that's the case, I'm happy. :D Quote
Lyichir Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 They are, though, confirmed to be working on a second one....right? As long as that's the case, I'm happy. :D Yup. A sequel (as well as a standalone Ninjago movie) are confirmed to be in the works. Which is part of why I don't understand the assumption that these unannounced movies are based on Lego properties—apart from the possibility that one could be based on an unannounced theme (like next year's Bionicle relaunch), why not just up and say that they're Lego-related if that were the case? Wow, it's totally what I was thinking about, those assumptions are really arbitrary. At least we can ensure that there would be more TLM products following future films :p. Quote
Darth Punk Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Perhaps because those assumptions are based on info not yet publicly announced. Hmmm, maybe. Quote
SweetiePie88 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 not just a sequel. I saw an article online yesterday about there being a date for the sequel, then TWO marked dates for unnamed lego movies. One is presumed to be the ninjago movie that's rumored to be in the works and the other some predict might be a lego movie pt 3. Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Besides the confirmed sequel, these other LEGO movies are most likely not in the same continuity and universe as this one. It doesn't have anything to do with next year's sets, at any rate. Quote

It doesn't have anything to do with next year's sets, at any rate. I don't expect that the sequel will share any 'continuity' either. It's Lego. There doesn't really need to be any sort of unanimous story. I'm not even sure how they could make any sort of direct sequel? While a Duplo invasion was a fun one off scene, I don't expect it would play off very well for an entire film (nor make for desireable tie-in Lego sets...). I'd imagine we'll get a whole new cast of characters and different themes being showcased for the next movie? Quote
Slurpifier Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I'd imagine we'll get a whole new cast of characters and different themes being showcased for the next movie? I agree. A whole new line-up of fresh funny energetic characters would be ideal. If the original cast of the first film re-appeared as the main cast for the sequel, the story may fall flat. Quote
lifeinplastic Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Agreed. I didn't really like the characters in the first film anyway. I know the film is aimed at kids but for me UniKitty = Jar Jar! Hope the next film is more Adventurers focussed. Quote
TheBrickPal Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) New set names here. http://idlehands1.bl...s-for-2015.html In addition to 70817 Batman and Super Angry Kitty Attack from SDCC... 70818 Double-Decker Couch 70819 Bad Cop Car Chase Edited August 14, 2014 by Puffle Pal26 Quote
CM4Sci Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Only three sets..? The other two don't sound that great.. -Sci Quote

It's not totally unheard of to have a reprint of something from a D2C set (see the Wizard Battle). And, Bad Cop's Car Chase is what I'm guessing will be the land version of the Bad Cop Pursuit vehicle, with the pig carriage from the scene right before they meet Batman. And, the Undersea Submarine isn't listed... but, while I'm not 100% sure we're getting it, I think we will get it. It will probably be a January 2015 LEGO Shop exclusive (a D2C set) due to its size. BrickBob Studpants Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) These sound great I didn't get Metalbeard's Sea Cow due to space constraints, so a separate release of the double-decker couch sounds awesome to me Edited August 14, 2014 by Lego-Freak Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I think it's odd to only have the couch, though. There has to be more substance and/or conflict to the set. It would be great if it was based on the water scene and included Queasy Kitty, so the Sea Cow wouldn't be the only way to get her. Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I assume the double decker couch will be a $20 set. Honestly i wanted the couch but what else could we get in that set? Quote

Darth Punk Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I'm hoping we get Vitruvius in the couch set so we have a cheaper way to get him. That would be great or maybe a Benny. I imagine a micro manager will be included as well. Quote
mrfang2 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 im betting the couch will have emmet, wyldstyle, unikitty, and maybe benny or vitruvius, the couch itself, and either 1 or 2 micromanagers, like the starwars battle packs that you mostly just get cause they come with a bunch of figures. im hoping the bad cop one will be 40-50$ and have emmet, wyldstye, and vitruvius in a modifyed version of the pig car to make it possible as a set, like how the supercycle was modded to roll better and that junk, along with bad cops car, gcbc (maybe slightly different expressions then last time) and their car. 8BrickMario Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 If they make the pig cart, it should have a spot for Emmet to become the wheel. There should also be a chair for Bad Cop to kick! Quote

Hope the next film is more Adventurers focussed. Oh, really? I loved the cast! Like, seriously adored every one of them. Metalbeard is full my favorite, but everyone brought something fun to the table. That said, their story has been told. We've seen the movie (...a few times, hahaha) and have all the toys. Any further adventures of that 'hardy crew' are really up to the viewer now. I'd not be opposed to seeing them again, but I think a new cast would just make more sense. I assume the double decker couch will be a $20 set. Honestly i wanted the couch but what else could we get in that set? I'm thinking the 'Double Decker Couch' set will feature the sad Unikitty we saw. It'll be a playset of some sort, from the submarine set (where the couch was actually built), with various 'exploding' play features. I expect it'll be a middling set, perhaps in the 'Evil Lair' range? Quote

obsidianheart Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Releasing SDCC Unikitty as an exclusive? That's just wrong... It's one thing with the Superhero figs, but to release one of the most memorable characters from the film in a set that is guaranteed to never even come close to children...that's just cruel. It's also ironic in that the character from the place where everything sad is banned, is going to make a lot of kids sad that they can't play with her. UGH, not here, too! Quote
Cammo Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Good news for me since I only wanted the double decker couch (and the submarine). I was already looking to bricklink the couch but that doesn't seem necessary anymore. Quote
