WesternOutlaw Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I just purchased King's Castle Siege (7094) yesterday and had a late night building the set. It took me about three hours to construct with few interruptions. I wanted to share with the great EB community, esp. for those of you who are considering the purchase of this set. King's Castle Seige Lego Castle 2007 Set #: 7094 Pieces: 973 Price: $99.99 (USD) Figs: 10 Starting with the drawbridge. I actually like the simple construction and it works by lifting the back technic bar that pulls the dual chains upward. A portculis rests behind the brown drawbridge that one may lift and hold up using the shield with two small beams that slide within: The two front towers are identical with large green/stone colored purp. The large piece actually works well: On the top of each tower (2) is a mini-catapult: The left and right front corner walls use rounded top pieces that I like: The left side wall is pretty much basic with a large brown catapult in the middle: The catapult: The right wall has stairs and a tower in the rear corner: The right rear tower. A bridge connects it to the middle tower and it actually turns allowing an attacking skeleton to slip off: I love the dark blue and gold glags that top the middle and right rear towers: The rear wall has two large black doors (and a three level tower). Unfortunately, there is nothing to baracade the doors with and they open to the outer back of the castle not even allowing one to place a brick inside to lock them from invaders: On the second floor is a treasure chest with four gems of various colors and golden sword: On the third floor is the king's throne. It's pretty simple, but I love the shilds that decorate various sections of the castle: The entire castle: Another view: Dragon's Eye view of the top: And now for my favorite, the outstanding collection of figs, starting with the King and General: The knights and archers each with a different face: A shot of the General's face and horse. I love the German pig-helmet: The Legions of the Undead with double-battle axe: The skeleton warriors: And the black dragon. The dragon that comes with the Wizard's Skull Tower is red. While many AFOL might not appreciate the dragon, it actually isn't too bad. The face/head is very nice and I'm sure younger children would enjoy the playability factor: Lastly, a few shots of the box front and back: Summary While King's Castle Seige is not by far Classic Castle, it is a step in the right direction for Lego. The castle is much better than anything from the Knights Kingdom collection although some might compare to Vladek's Dark Fortress. I have Vladek's but I never put the set together. The colors of the castle are probably what I like most with the use of the ornate shields and flags. The gold decorative pieces I can do with or without although they do add some design and blend the gold in with the castle. I just HATE the softer cheaper plastic. I see Lego using more and more of these inferior pieces. The castle still has a large number of BURPS, BLOCKS, and other already assembled pieces which always detract from the quality and design of the set, but the overall look is not bad - it's just not classic. The build took me three hours which I consider pretty good for a set this size. I would have appreciated much more detail with some rooms and smaller accessories (like the new HP castle, and/or the last Castle Legend (Royal King's Castle 10176 for the same price)). The figs for all the new Castle sets are outstanding. Some people don't like the skeleton arms, but they are 100 times better than the older skeletons that did not allow good manipulation of the hands/arms in various positions. This set has 10 figs; the best being the king and his army of five. My biggest dislike of this set is probably the tower to the left of the rear center tower. I find this design a bit strange. Overall, the more I look at this set, the more I appreciate its overall design. I would buy again. Hope you enjoy the review. Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Brilliant review! You're really making me jealous :'-) I love those dark green plants too. Also, is the golden sword truly a slightly deeper gold than the last one from KK1? I love all those figs, and am completely taken by the new helms. Great review! Quote
iamded Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Very good! I saw the review on Classic-Castle, but I still wanted to see a Eurobricks review. And you didn't mention the 'breakable' wall? I love the new flags, the blue looks metallic. *wub* And the figs are great, I actually didn't realise it came with so many. This is a great set, but in order to afford it, I'm gonna need to get a job. Hmmm... :-P I only noticed one bad thing with this review, and that was the blurry photo of the white skellies. But it's fine, because the rest is great, and we've all seen the skellies before. Great job. *y* *y* Edited June 6, 2007 by iamded Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 i know this is supposed to be the flagship set of the theme... but i feel its the weak-link, personally. with the other sets you get a lot of new. new as in a noun. this set is a castle, and by-far not the best one LEGO has produced, so it only stands as a downgrade to what has previously came. whereas the other smaller sets focus more on the new skelies and great new minifigs... and an evil skull tower is original to the castle theme. so there is a lot of new unexplored castle themes there. for me, it seems the set is missing either 1) some extra neat (small) features, or 2) a good sturdy design. i felt the kings castle (10176) was much better. but this opinion is based solely on images on the web. Brickster, how do you feel it stacks up to the 2006 castle (if im not mistaken you have both) ??? however, i would say my two biggest grips are that i don't like the plate ground, and would prefer a baseplate ground. also that the BURP's are two toned... that makes the set as a whole look cheap. though, if i owned the set, i bet the more flexible (cheaper plastic) pieces would really bother me... as im with B on this one, and hate them. ------------------------------------------------ since im not a fan of this theme as a stand-alone, i don't think i'll pick this set up any time soon. but thanks for the review none-the-less !!! - Brick Miner Quote
Asuka Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 For me, who missed nearly all castle sets due to my favor for Space when I was a child and then, when some great lines appeared like the Forest Men or Wolfpack, the beginning of my dark ages, this new set is more than beautiful, although I would prefer the use of 1x2 bricks instead of large wall pieces, of course. But with this really nice looking new castle and the marvelous new range of great MFs, and I love both sections and even the dragons, I could be able to do some nice Castle MOCs in a future not soo far away.... :-) A good review, thanks Brickster, very nice pictures.... *y* Quote
Corvus Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Finally, a review! thankyouthankyouthankyou... and so on. Could you post a few pics of the back? Edited June 6, 2007 by Mr. Mandalorian Quote
Berry Syedow Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Nice review, Brickster. This set isn't my cup of tea, but it is still a lot better than previous KK Castles. I kind of feel like the castle is too empty or gutted. The dragon definitely kept the castle from being as big as it could have been. I also feel that the center tower could have been built better. This is a great castle for bley castle pieces, I'll admit. It also has a fine selection of castle mini-figs. Does the bley color have any effect on you, Brickster? From the photos the castle appears very "cold" if that makes any sense. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 Also, is the golden sword truly a slightly deeper gold than the last one from KK1? I'm not sure without digging out my KK sets to compare. The gold sword is rather light in color though making it almost look silver. I only noticed one bad thing with this review, and that was the blurry photo of the white skellies. Sorry about that. I had trouble focussing my camera on the skeletons for some reason. Perhaps it was the lighting in the room and/or the white skeletons. I'll take some better shots. Brickster, how do you feel it stacks up to the 2006 castle (if im not mistaken you have both) ???however, i would say my two biggest grips are that i don't like the plate ground, and would prefer a baseplate ground. also that the BURP's are two toned... that makes the set as a whole look cheap. though, if i owned the set, i bet the more flexible (cheaper plastic) pieces would really bother me... as im with B on this one, and hate them. I actually like the two-tone BURPS. In fact, these look better than a solid color piece in my opinion. I have mixed view regarding the baseplate issue. The inner ground is rather large. I think the Viking Fortress doesn't use a baseplate either. I don't own 10176 if that's the castle you're referring to. I may still buy before it is discontinued. I have seen it and Legoland, and it looks like a nice castle- just a different style. Could you post a few pics of the back? Sure, I'll add when I have a little time to take and upload a few more shots. Does the bley color have any effect on you, Brickster? From the photos the castle appears very "cold" if that makes any sense. My camera color may be adding a little blue to the images, but I don't mind the use of the new grey. My complaint is when you want to mix the old grey with the new grey for a MOC, the result doesn't look good. In addition, I have some classic castle sets next to the castle, and the colors are different. I like all the bricks in my village to be the same color. I'll share a few shots when I can. Very good! I saw the review on Classic-Castle, but I still wanted to see a Eurobricks review. And you didn't mention the 'breakable' wall? But thank you for the comments. And yes, I forgot to mention the breakable wall. I will have to add to the review. Thanks for pointing this out. Thank you all for the feedback. It's not Classic Castle, but one does have to appreciate the new style and color of the "New Order of the Brick". Perhaps one of the mods can add a link to this review on the Front Page NEWS section. WesternOutlaw Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 Double-post, but here are some of the additional images for this review. Starting with the back-side of the castle: A close-up: The break-away wall on the right side of the castle: Pushing the wall causes it to break inward. This feature reminds me of Playmobil Castles. Here's the opening with the wall: Inside the left wall of the castle are some weapons: And a non-blurry image of the white skeletons. It was the close proximity of the camera to the figs that caused the images to blur: Quote
iamded Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Woo! Thus completes your wonderful review! :-P :-D Very nice, I really want those skellies! Quote
alex54 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Thanks for this review Brickster! This castle looks really good in general! I really like the colour scheme, it works well for me. It looks more like a Classic Castle than a KK or this legend-castle-which-is-not-one IMO. For me the use of large wall pieces is not a matter, because they are parts from some classic castle. So saying that this castle is too <insert that tiresome argument> because of their use, that makes the Black Monarch Castle a <insert that tiresome argument> one too! I agree that the castle lakes some elements inside, but it Quote
Shakar Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 The modular aspect is very good too. Maybe we will have smaller parts that can make the castle bigger. It seems that it Quote
Corvus Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Ah, thank you. You have officially made my day! ;-) I find the opportunity of adding that dock on to the castle quite *wub* Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 I agree. this will be a very nice feature. It reminds me of the old Classic Castle that you could add component to (like the Guarded Inn and other smaller castle/wall sets). Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 (edited) Cool! Thank you very much for the review. I really want this set, for its detail and its playbility. Looks like the best set out of the series. Looks so good, I can't wait to buy it. Thanks again! -ZotS Edited June 9, 2007 by Zaktan of the Shadows Quote
Wout Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Nice review *y* I.M.H.O. the best castle in years, only no lady or princess. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Nice review *y* I.M.H.O. the best castle in years, only no lady or princess. Thanks. She comes with another set, Sleleton's Tower. Quote
iamded Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 That's to make you get both sets. So you can add the Princess to the castle, and then have a skeleton fort. See? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 Lego is pretty slick that way. - I'm not a big fan of buying a set just for the figs (except real small sets), but I'm sure some might do this. Quote
Shakar Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Looks like Lego is beginning to produce again modular sets. Let's hope they make something like Cafe Corner and Market Street, where you can arrange the various sections of the building in many ways. Shakar Quote
iamded Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Yeah, that finishes it all. Have wall sections, with removable 'roof' piece, so you can add more layers to it, make it taller. Then have corner sections and gate sections. Built in modular building style. *sweet* Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 YES!!! finally, a reciew of the set everybody wants!!!! I am so glad that I'm getting this set for my birthday (albeit in two months, but I have waited for 8 years for my next castle((my last one was King Leo's castle))) Quote
