jantjeuh Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Despite my earlier criticisms, those pictures in that Korean review make this set look very, very tempting. Edited August 7, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Well 2 nice wheels, if I am not wrong maybe we will see good cars with them. I can not understand so much bricks doing nothing...I am too much Technic for this set... Quote
rollermonkey Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) I can't read a word of it, but that may be the most incredible Lego set review I have ever seen! And that build looks WAY more interesting than I expected. Edited August 8, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Amazing review! I think most of us could make it from those pics. I do love those front tires, but they do look too big compared to the real pics. Quote
m0dulo Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 And that build looks WAY more interesting than I expected. I agree! It definitely looks like a builder's set. It looks cool from the outside but there is so much happening underneath. I'd probably stop for a while once I got about 50-75% of the way done. :) Quote
therealjustin Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I agree, the attention to detail is very nice to see. They could have put all of the focus on the exterior but the chassis and interior are no less interesting. Why did this have to be $200! Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 this is a must have! Actually 2 or 3 copies...why not! Those front wheels will get me crazy!!! Quote
peter_m Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 this is a must have! Actually 2 or 3 copies...why not! Those front wheels will get me crazy!!! I expect at least 1 Technic set with those wheels in 2015 - they are too versatile to be exclusive for this set. Ahhhh but why the stickers?! :( Quote
sm 01 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Boom! Review: http://www.hobbyinsi...ry=&fmMainCode= (I know I know - Korean - but the pics are language-agnostic :) ) Thanks for the link, great photos! I'll probably buy it, mostly because of front tires. These 2 little fellers will pay for about 1/2 of the set... I didn't know how expensive minifigures can be - Thanks Paul for the advice! Quote
Paul Boratko Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 The thing is basically built like this : One connector is missing because not available on LDD. However, there is not steering mechanism here. Note that pin 43093 seems to be back in black color (blue on my pic). Turns out that it isn't a black friction pin, it is one of these..... I had my hopes up.... Quote
jantjeuh Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Aren't they regular black friction pins? Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Wrong... Its build with 2x 3x11 panels! Quote
Paul Boratko Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Talking about these pins here: Quote
Paul Boratko Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) Wrong... Its build with 2x 3x11 panels! I asked HUW (who is doing a review on the set) over at brickset if it was using black friction axle pins and I misunderstood what he told me... I do see that he recently posted a picture of that part of the build. Edited August 14, 2014 by Paul Boratko Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) There are no friction cross pins, as there are no #2 connectors but pannels... Here's a picture along with my idea on how to make it steer. (the new connectors are missing in LDD) EDIT: Paul look here: Edited August 14, 2014 by Zblj Quote
camaudio Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 this set needs to come with a glass case Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I would kill for a pic of those new tyres with the 8070 tyres, many future cars depend of them. Quote
Anio Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I had my hopes up.... So they are just regular pins. Disappointing, indeed. Still, using the panels is a smart trick. Quote
allanp Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Just a heads up, live build event now started on technicbricks. https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/108341563834053315290/hangouts/onair/watch?hid=hoaevent%2Fcm0kr1glgfanv82r5hlfu2oepmk&wpsrc=yta&ytl=u4WJAuCLrXc Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 IMO if they would turn the golden hub 90 degrees it would support the weight better. Quote
Rishab N Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Heres another review by Nathan from Rebrickable http://rebrickable.com/blog/2014/review-lego-76023-batman-tumbler Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) It's on sale finally!!! can't wait to put my hands on it!!!!  Edited August 20, 2014 by TheItalianBrick Quote
Lipko Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I like the solution of assembling the double rear wheels. I came up with many versions for that but none of them was that simple. Quote
gmshades Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) One of the changes I plan to do is locate aftermarket irok tires for the rear. So far I can only find them for $20 each! I have 2 Lego Batman sets on Ebay to pay for this, and hopefully enough extra for the new red pickup. :EDIT: Just found these tires on Ebay VTR41004 1.9 Interco SS TSL Tire 2 Slickrock. Only $8.50/pr. And they are within mm of the stock Unimog tires! I'll tale pics once I have the tires on the Tumbler. Might have to wait a couple weeks though. Blakbird Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I took some pictures of my build of the Tumbler, paying special attention to the Technic parts. There is quite a lot of Technic here. Here you can see the tires, some beams and bricks, and a whole lot of frames. the parts are in numbered bags, so this only shows Bag 1 which has the bulk of the Technic stuff. Here you can see that the whole base is a block of Technic. The rear axle assembly is entirely Technic, although it will later be locked into place with some regular plates. Here are the wheels, hubs, and panels. Here is a good collection of connectors. Finally, here is the front axle support for those of you who were wondering how it goes together. At 2 studs thick and built with panels, it is very rigid. The joker watched the whole thing from his perch. Quote
