Sorry for the delay

Second Alien's fleet move from F04 to G04.

Third Alien's fleet move from G08 to F09.

Just going by the fact that these two builds (one, two) got the same exact score... no. Of course, even the second one has a slight smattering of story, but that's quite easy to do!

On the other hand, it's true that pombe's and Big Sal's storylines get good scores, but at least with regards to pombe, that's probably partially because of the amount of builds he uses for one story. Besides, that's pretty much always been the case!

Perhaps not entirely related to AG. But which sets would give me the highest number of pieces most often used to build mocs here?

I'd say that definitely depends on your choice of Corporation. Octan uses a lot of white, so sets with high number of white pieces are helpful. And every Corp uses a lot of grey and dark grey, so star wars sets come with a lot of those. :classic: in fact, star wars sets come with a lot of useful pieces for any corp, with many sets including great numbers of white, dark red, and black. Recently, in Octan's private discussion board, Mediumsnowman pointed out that "Ghost" from Rebels was a good Octan piece pack, and that it was on sale on Amazon.

A great set for MANTIS builds is the Ultra Agents Hurricane Heist. I got two on sale for 50% off. The set itself is kinda meh but the parts are amazing Ultra agents in general have very useful parts and figs for AG in my opinion. They also use a lot of black which is useful for MANTIS.

I've got lots of Sw sets, and zero ultra agents. Maybe I should pick up some of those.

Id like to go Octan, it seems a better fit. For me. Thanks for the advice.

Most of the new TFA sets are very meh for me. But I'll take a look at the ghost.

More good MANTIS sources....

Lime Green was also in all the "bug" vehicles from the Galaxy Explorers series....you can often find those on clearance still.

Where? I never got more than one when it was in stores (because I was miffed that it seemed to be a bad reboot of the Insectoids theme) but I definitely missed out, in hindsight, on some awesome figures and parts.

Great choice!

Yeah, I'm not huge on rebels either (and the TFA sets are just too expensive for me. Just wow. :sceptic: ) so I likely won't get the set myself, but if you're looking for a parts pack, it's apparatus discounted on amazon. I'm sure we could think of other good sets too if we put our minds to it.

The designers of the game did a great job of letting everyone stay in their comfort zones for building while occasionally throwing a challenge at the players. If you happen to be a terrain builder, build alien landscapes! If you like building castles or town houses, you can build corporate buildings (exterior and/or interior). And, of course, you can build spaceships and vehicles, since this is a sci-fi game. Once in a while, there will be a challenge where you must build something specific, but those aren't part of the weekly game.

If you don't happen to have the colors of your corporation, you can always just build the terrain of the planet your sig fig(s) are on. Or discover the remains of a space wrecked alien ship that is mostly blue and yellow. Or even spy on enemy corporations and build vehicles and facilities in their colors. Just because you don't have a lot of black doesn't mean you cannot join M.A.N.T.I.S. or vice versa for white and Octan (or red for Kawashita).

Do whatever inspires you. That's the point of LEGO, right?

i think my biggest issue (apart from not having an MoC workspace, as I have no workspace at the moment) is I dont have the bricks for it.

I have lots of sets, but its primaryly SW sets, and not very many sets where there are bricks for MoC's, that i see online.

Perhaps im jumping the gun, obviously I can jump in and do the same quality moCs as someone who has done them for years and years. And I've never done a single one. Since coming out of the Dark Ages.

Do you have a LEGO Store nearby? The "Pick-a-brick" wall is a great way to stock up on basic elements for cheaps....outside of that...have a look at "Bricklink.com" I go on there and order 100 of this or that...spend less than $50 and end up with a nice supply of parts....

Another source it to check "craigslist" for folks selling off collections....you can also find collections at goodwill and thrift stores...

Star wars sets are GREAT for Kawashita dark red.....so you may have more useful stuff than you think!

Mainly Toys R Us and a TRU outlet here in Denver...Got 5 of 70706 for 3.98 each.... I think I found one or two at local Wal-Marts as well, you have to look in the "clearance" section of the store, if yours has one.

In a way, I was in a similar situation to you before Andromeda's Gates. While I came out of my Dark Ages a long time ago...my building habits were sporatic, my MOCs were terrible, and I ended up simply collecting LEGOs for a long time.

I posted a few of my MOCs online, but grew insecure about my ability to build with LEGOs because they didn't get a lot of views or feedback. So I became stuck. Then came AG.

My MOCs are still terrible, but because of AG, I build every week now and am getting better with each successive build. I get critical feedback from the players and I incorporate their advice into the build being critiqued and I store that information for future MOCs. Some of the very best builders from around the world play this game, and I'm always happy when someone suggests changes in my MOCs, even if it's too late to make a change in the MOC for the game week, I can always use that information for later.

My advice: just build. There's no other way to get better.

Vedauwoo gave you some awesome advice already. Hit up a local LEGO store, if you have one, and visit their Pick a Brick wall. If you hurry, you can still get the existing elements (especially lots and lots of delicious green) before they swap them out for the new elements coming October 1st. Also, Vedauwoo suggested you visit www.bricklink.com. This is a great way to save money if you need a lot of a few elements. Just search for individual bricks and order a lot of them. I just placed an order for a lot of sausages, for instance.

Finally, if you are looking for generic sets with a lot of basic elements as a foundation for your collection, take a look at the Classic sets: http://www.lego.com/en-us/classic. These are a throw back to the traditional LEGO sets of old that were designed for free building. Plus they come with a great price per brick ratio.

You say you have a lot of Star Wars sets. Um...take them apart and build! You will be surprised at how many awesome bricks you already have, especially for science fiction type MOCs. You will discover that a lot of the more specialized elements will be just as necessary as the basic bricks for your MOCs, and I bet you already have a lot of them.

Everyone here is supportive, and everyone here appreciates a good MOC, even if it is for a rival corporation.

I feel like this all the time and I have plenty of Lego, I know I lack a lot of techniques, but I am picking up tons and trying to use them. Just like everything, patience and practice, I rely on lots of the old building insrtuctions, even steal a few ideas and do it my own way. I use the lego site to down load instructions as well as this place.

I'm totally fine if it's the case, but it looks like my MANTI-Ray speeder did not count as a land vehicle. Is it because it hovers too high off the ground to be considered a land vehicle?

Seems like I checked the wrong checkbox as it's listed as spaceship. I corrected the timeline and added 1 DP on A08.

Thanks for the good words.

Unfortunately, its a good 2½ hours drive to the nearest Lego store with a PAB wall. Only two in Denmark. Who could believe it :(

There are sites similar to craigslist, but its very expensive and its a total crapshoot what you get.

Im prone to start using bricklink more. Still ordering 100 of this and 100 of that, would mean I kne what I needed, I need to get my feet wet and starting MoC, otherwise Ill never get there.

Theres hardly clearance sections here, some stores has 35% off every one in a while, but LEGO is massively expensive here.

For instance.

http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=70747-1&name=Boulder%20Blaster&category=%5BNinjago%5D#T=S&O={"ii":1} costs 36,95 USD in Denmark.

I paid 240 USD or 1600 DKK for my Tie Fither and my Slave One UCS, each.

Where I can find the Slave One UCS on Amazon.com for 200 USD, and Im betting it can be found cheaper elsewhere.

If we are still talking about sets, I found a pretty neat Octan polybag today at Target.

I bought two of them for $3.99 each and I really liked it. It has a nice new Octan fig, and it also comes with a ray gun and metal fist thing ( they are both part of the car) and all the pieces are in Octan colors. Overall it is a pretty small but very useful set for Octan players

I have a couple of those.
