Jody Meyer Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 @NuckEiberg - Thank you for both the website and hope to get them to work. I finally got a grey back ground. @aliencat - Any build should be judged by how cool that build is. Yes I agree as a whole, I wasn't saying the more experienced ones as your self get low scores, I am sure everyone is / does put a lot of thought and work into each build. wasn't trying to offend, just venting a little. I am sorry you took offence. I for one really like your builds. Jody Quote
Aliencat Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 No offence taken, I just like saying bull junk. Nah it's just my 2 cents. And thanks :) Quote
LordDan Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) Ok, how is LDD not easier. You want a red brick... done. Wanna make that green... done. I've had so many times where I needed just 1 more of a piece and I didn't have it. I can't take a white part and make it blue with real bricks. LDD decreases the degree of difficulty because you've removed a limiting factor. Much like in many sports there should be a degree of difficulty factor applied. LDD makes larger builds much easier in numerous ways. LDD is very different from real bricks, and is NOT easy. I have tried it and I gave up because it was so different from what I was used to. Unlimited bricks makes it so hard to find what pieces you want, and then if you want a new piece or color you need to go back and search for it. Unless you already know exactly which pieces you need and exactly what you want to build it is very difficult. ( Especially because the way I build is to lay out a ton of pieces in front of me that I think might be useful to what I want to build and see what comes out of it. And hinges are soooo hard to align! Things that are easy to do with real bricks can be a pain in LDD. Edited August 1, 2015 by LordDan Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I have 2 words for those who think LDD is Easy: Flex Tool. Quote

I have 2 words for those who think LDD is Easy: Flex Tool. Haha, naah, it's not that bad once you get used to it... I give you two new ones: 3D hinges! Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I'm a 6 year LDD user. I know the pain of 3D hinges, but this took forever. (And that's like a 6th of the flex tubes in this WIP MOC) Quote

I was attending a LEGO convention where I happened to stop by the vendor tables to buy some Octan related bricks and minifigure parts. I bought one minifigure thinking I could use the torso to finally put together an H3 sig fig, but as it turned out, it was a knockoff, which I didn't realize until I got home and looked at it under better lighting. I know there are rules against the use of third party and clone brands, especially as they often have parts that don't exist in LEGO so that you can create something that a pure LEGO build cannot. In this case, however, I was thinking that it could be an interesting story telling device, where an alien mimic spy (the knockoff minifigure) has infiltrated Octan and through his presence, unnerves everyone, though no one can figure out why, since for the most part, he seems perfectly normal. I have asked Bob if this is okay, and he has given me his permission. Klik. Quote
Commander Turtle Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Talking like that, if he had horns and he'd be straight from Homestuck! (Anyone uninitiated... maybe don't bother trying to learn. It's 8,000 pages...) Quote

Commander Beltar Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 snip Amazing character can't wait to see what chaos you may cook up at Octan...and glad you could join us at AG, even if it's not for Kawashita! Also, could a mod (So basically Bob..) change the title of my Challenge Entry to Tappudansu Mk. II (rather than Mk.11) Thanks. ~Beltar Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 End of Week 11, start of Week 12. 12 builds for Kawashita, 10 for MANTIS and Octan, and 1 Alien. Quote
Jody Meyer Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Ahhh bummer, had a storm last night, power went out...I was trying to get my post up...guess I am to late. I can post for week 12 then. Quote
Commander Turtle Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 We're definitely hitting the builder-drain now, when people are starting to have real life and general burn-out after 11 hard weeks. (Not that there are many outright quitting, just a decent percentage reducing their building quantity). Well, I'm going to try my hardest to build every week until it's just me, Dannylonglegs, and SpacerSteve fighting over the ruins of Andromeda Quote

Sounds like a great idea for a week 50 build collaboration though. A three way death match at the core of Andromeda. I for one, am not very sad that other corporations are experiencing burn-out too. Aliencat Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I guess some players were also building for the challenge deadline this week, instead of weekly builds. Quote

And, as always, Dr. Long is available to serve in an antagonistic capacity towards other corporations. Or peaceful. Just saying antagonistic because she's not that personable and very openly pro-octan. Send me a PM if you want to colab. Kodan Black Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I guess some players were also building for the challenge deadline this week, instead of weekly builds. I suspect the last week for Cat B is going to have low participation simply because it is the biggest MOC. I'm 50/50 on being able to do a Cat B, I guess we'll see what time/parts allow. But I'll be posting my weekly for the foreseeable future. Quote
Kai NRG Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 ...Well, I'm going to try my hardest to build every week until it's just me, Dannylonglegs, and SpacerSteve fighting over the ruins of Andromeda Hey! Dannylonglegs Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Hey! What about me? I'm going to stick around long enough to get on my corps executive board at least! That was my original intent, joining AG. heheh! Can't wait to have you on the board! When Pombe gets there Dr. Long might lose her shit. Looking at it, I believe he mentioned me and SpacerSteve because we're all 3rd branch execs atm. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 There will be some delay in the scoring this week, sorry Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 There will be some delay in the scoring this week, sorry Are we talking "weekend release" delay, or "Thursday at latest" delay? Just curious. Take your time, judges! You all have lives (probably) in addition to this game! Ultimately, most of us do this not for the grading but rather because we love the MoCs and story telling. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Commander Turtle Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Hey! What about me? I'm going to stick around long enough to get on my corps executive board at least! If you were in Kawashita you'd be fighting with me over the 3rd division, since I have the dubious distinction of the lowest executive score, if we include Bribe Bags When my MSc is done, I'll prove my mettle! Looking at it, I believe he mentioned me and SpacerSteve because we're all 3rd branch execs atm. I picked from people who'd never skipped a build, and saw MANTIS doesn't have anyone from week 1 with that distinction! SpacerSteve at least hasn't skipped a build since week 2 Also, my branch is the only one with exactly 0 credits. I believe that makes my branch the procrastination wing. Come to Kawashita for honour, glory, and procrastination! Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Wait a second, can players be Aliens? That's pretty cool to be independent and cause a much between the other corporations! I kind of wish I knew that a while ago but oh well... Quote

I kind of wish I knew that a while ago but oh well... The answer is yes! You may either be a member of a corporation, or an unaffiliated "Alien". Corporate affiliated players may make Alien builds as well. If you want to switch to an Alien, you should tell Bob, but it can be done. Simply remove yourself from your corporation chat, and post your new character! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
