I prefer good cars ;-)

I've seen some great 4W models and some bad and dull 6w (or even 8W) cars. It's a matter of harmony of shapes and details.

My answer is 4-6W it depends. But never 8 Wide. :-|

Hate when TLC uses 2 pcs of 4 wide screens to make a 8 studs screen.

Hate's a pretty strong word. Is it also the worst thing that's ever happened?

Yes Hinckey-Dink... "Hate" it :-P

And change my title!!

:-D :-D :-D You smartass. You beat me to the punch. :-P I'll change your title when you stop peeing your pants.

I voted for 6 wide "cars" as I assume this poll is referring to the new style trucks and stuff.

More specifically though I prefer 6 wide for trucks and stuff as LEGO has been doing. I'd rather they kept cars as 4 wide, such as the one that comes with the new Service Station.

EDIT: I should note I also like the 8 wide haulers and stuff. So my vote technically goes for 4 wide cars, 6 wide trucks, and 8 wide haulers and stuff.

I agree, I like my cars 4 studs wide compared to the trucks that are 6 studs wide. It makes for more realistic city streets. I've never seen a car as wide as a dump truck before, at least not on the roads around here. :-P

4 studs is the only one l like. Mainly because of the scale - sure they aren't the most realistic as only one fig can get in them but when compared to typical building sizes the smaller the better IMO.

I love the classic 1980s cars *wub* but just admire the new 6stud ones. They are good I admit but I dont want to mix them with my 4 stud ones so now I dont buy the newer ones.

I vote for 6-studs due to its realism. 4-studs are cute and small to play with. A mixture of both kinds will defintely improve the variety of models in any streets in LEGO City :-)

I think I prefer 4 studs just so they match with the scale of everything else, although I was never a fan of the old cars even as a kid (late 80s/early 90s, like the kind that come with 6394 or 6395). They looked strange and lopsided to me. The World City police car or the one that comes with the town plan are ideal in my opinion, just in terms of the scale.

On the other hand, 6 or 8 studs for the trucks looks great, and I like the modern trucks much better than the old ones. I think 6 studs should remain a minimum for them.

Hm, I think this poll could be (and possibly is) interpreted more than one way, because it doesn't seem to specificly specify whether you are just talking about CAR cars, or the entire wheeled vehicle line. 8-|

After all, while some people wish that all lego vehicles were four studs wide like in the old days, others like having a variety of sizes - 4 wide cars, 6 wide trucks, and 8 wide construction equipment. I personally go with the latter, because IMO the big vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances just look silly being only 4 wide. But, each to his own I guess. ;-)

Old thread and great points.

I voted for 4 wide cars. My reasons are fairly speicific. From a purely asthetic, "shelf display" point of view, I completely understand why many folks prefer the look of 6 wide or larger cars. However, as most of my town building is for display with my Train Club, there are a few reasons to go with 4 wide.

-Most of the members use 4 wide cars.

-Most structures are slightly downsized (even the big ones) and the 4 wide cars fit this scale well.

-Smaller cars make buildings, streets and scenery look larger. This is especially true when parked in driveways next to houses.

-Smaller cars take up less space in car carriers, ferrys, etc.

-When making cars en-masse most folks already have a large stock of windows and the like for constructing 4 wide cars.

Unrelated to the train club:

-I really do like the classic 1980's LEGO asthetic for cars. (not so much for trucks)

-I find that it's a charming standard that still provides a challenge to see what can be done in a small space.

8 Studs! *wub*

I like my cars to be wide and have plenty of room :-D

...

Silly Americans and their big cars. :-|

Oh wait! I'm american too! Doh! :-$

I voted 6-W.

Although I think big rigs and Military Vehicles are to be 8 studs wide.

(if ppl consider one stud to be about 1 foot by 1 foot)

I've driven military hummers a lot and they're definitely about 8 feet wide.

Anywayz, most vehicles are about 6-W (in the U.S. anywayz X-D )

I would like to make a 6-W 4 door sedan of a Wisconsin State Patrol Car that's a Crown Victoria.

I like 6-wide better. 4-wide is just too unreal! Having a car that sits 1 person, but looks like a station wagon or sumthin is pretty crappy. Although, Lego went to the next level and made those Speed Racer cars 8-wide! I think 6-wide is still better.

I voted for 8! I like the huge scale of the speed racer cars. 6 is okay for jeeps and most modern cars, but if I get around to building that '59 cadillac it'll have to be 8 wide. WOOOOO!!!

I always hated the 4 wide cars... grrrrrrr.... If there's only room for one seat, how do minifigs make out with their girlfriends at the drive in?

4 Studs are indeed, as said by many, too small for 2 minifigs.

6 Studs wide cars are the minimum IMHO.

With less they look unrealistic (unless its a very small one-person car).

I even prefer 8 studs as well, but then you need quite some bricks, and when building a town MOC, it is just not attracting to use such a large scale.

My vote: 6 studs !

Small cars 4-stud, bigger ones 6-stud

Trucks better to be 6-stud to accomodate necessary features, 8-stud only when extremely needed.

I voted for 4-wide for basically all these reasons. It's my opinion that the 6-wide cars just seem to be out-of-place in a classic town scale.

And as for two minifigs getting to make out in a 4-wide? That's what this piece is for!
