I was thinking about what might have inspired TLG to finally make an entire wave based on the Justice League recently and I had an interesting thought: Could these have been intended as a tie-in with the Justice League movie that was originally planned to be released next year? I know that sets that are actually based on the movie would make more sense, but this would explain why they changed it up so much in this wave. We know that sets are designed years ahead of production, so they could have started planning them as soon as the movie was announced. Just some food for thought.

I don't know about that... I mean, would these things be in the movie? Would there really have been that many villains (Cold, Grodd, Braniac, Manta, etc.) in one movie? It just seems like too much. Though it could be, that certainly lines up. I mean it is odd that they just randomly decided to stop overbatmaning it and diversify their hero range.

Probably not, but that's not what I meant. I mean these could have been semii-tie-in set like the Electro, X-men, and Hydra sets this year, i.e. comic-based sets that cash in on the release of a popular movie without being directly based on it. While it would have been easier for them to get the license for the Justice League movie than for ASM2 or DOFP, I think it's still possible they would have made sets like this.

Maybe it's less of a tie-in on the foundation of being based on the movie and more on the thought that "Oh hey, kids might like someone who isn't Batman now that they're in a movie!". That seems unlikely anyway, since the BvS sets were pushed back and all these sets were made after the date was pushed back.

TLG hasn't failed getting licenses to DC films before, though. And if there's only one a year, then I think TLG would rather cash in with sets full on based on the film as opposed to semi tie-ins. Wi last years Marvel sets, there was no way to make full waves for TWS, ASM2, DoFP, and GotG, so they had to make due with what they could. This could have been slotted for a JL wave to semi-tie-in with the movie, but I think they've been planning this to coincide with LB3.

I think any of these charecters may possibly be released next year

Minifig predictions

The atom

Captain atom

Red tornado

Black canary

Shazam

Hawk woman

Jon Stewart

Blue beetle

75th anniversary batman

Killer croc

Cheetah

Fire fly

Solomon Grundy

Apocalypse

Dead shot

Death stroke

Clay face

Cyborg superman

Bizaro

Major force

Batman of zur en ahh

Major Force, Zur an Arrh Batman, Cyborg Superman, and Blue Beetle are all pretty unlikely. Apocalypse is an X-Men villain, are you sure you don't mean Doomsday?

Yeah, I know this seems more likely, but I wouldn't rule my theory out.

You have a good point there. While we don't know for sure that these were made after that movie got pushed back, that would make sense since TLG needed some DC sets to release this year, so maybe they decided to just base them all on the videogame.

BREAKING NEWS: The entire slate of DC movies has been released! Suicide Squad next year, Wonder Woman and Justice League in 2017, Flash and Aquaman in 2018, Justice League 2 and Shazam in 2019, and Green Lantern and Cyborg in 2020. Ezra Miller has been cast as Flash and Jason Momoa is confirmed as Aquaman. Guess we'll be getting a lot more different heroes and maybe even villains pretty soon.

Judging from the Marvel sets, I'm not certain we will get sets for all of these movies, Batman V Superman-yes and probably Justice League too, but for Suicide Squad I serriosly doubt we will get sets, Lego will probably continue with the Comic Based Justice League sets.

Well, for the current Suicide Squad we have some figs already... so maybe they go that route again.

Black Manta and Harley could be reused...and it would be maybe the only chance to get a Deadshot or Deathstroke...

Yes I mean doomsday

I know it's not likely, but I would love an alternate costume set or sets.

Since I'm all about Superman this is what I would want.

SUPERMAN SET

Eradicator

Steel

Cyborg Superman

Superboy

Superman Red and Blue (Electric Supes)

Black suit Superman

Solar suit Superman

Black and White Lantern Superman

Battle Damage Superman

Go ahead and make a list for other heroes if you want.

Suicide Squad would make a cool lil' collection of figs, although I'd reckon the movie would be too much like the latest animated one "Assault on Arkham" and not be very kid friendly...

Even the name "Suicide Squad" wouldn't make it onto a LEGO box :/

Only option for them would be introducing the as individuals to a Batman themed set I reckon...

With so many movies it would be interesting to see if they release sets based on them alone, or stick with the comic theme but with the relevant characters from said movies.

I have a feeling we will at the very least see a comic based set with Deadshot and Captain Boomerang around the release of the film (Perhaps Amanda Waller and Vixen if we are lucky, though I doubt we'll see the other four though).

ok, yeah i looked it up it its 2016. here's hoping that we get at least one set based off the film! by the way any idea when we are going to get the brainiac attack set pics?

I expect lego will give us the characters from the films in a comic based set, but as far as sets based on the film itself, I wouldn't count on it.

As for the Brainiac set, no one really knows when other than we should see them by January, or whenever it is released.

I would assume that if we get anything even remotely Suicide Squad related it'll be unofficial. Probably just a set with Deadshot and Captain Boomerang facing off with Batman or something. I can't imagine Lego would ever print the word "suicide" on anything with their logo on it. Maybe (although unlikely) we'll get a Task Force X set.

I know we have a lot if not all of the figures confirmed for their own movies, but this means that all of these characters are A. Getting movie variants and B. Are about to become mainstream. Now that these guys are mainstream, Lego will more likely give them standalone sets, entirely Batman-free!

Honestly, what I envision them doing for Suicide Squad is an Argus Laboratory set (think Hulks lab smash and Doc Ocks Lab merged) where Amanda Waller, Deadshot, and Captian Boomerang are holding Vixen hostage to steal her powers and the Flash and Batman arrive to save her.
