Ultron Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Oh man, is that awful! Idon't think I'll ever be able to see out of my right eye again! I am so glad they went the way they did; the one we are getting is perfect! I agree, I think that one is hideous. I especially hate the red eye. Quote
Steph 104th Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Concerning Deathstroke I've come to live with the no helmet look, and I do like the fact that its more his classic look, however that said the black half of the mask printed on the orange head piece remains my largest gripe, it just looks wrong and is rather off-putting unfortunately. Eww, you're right. I didn't notice that before. You'd think with all of this dual-color molding they've been doing lately that they could pull that off for one head. I think that fact alone has made me change my stance to "Please god get this guy a helmet", because at least those can be printed on all sides. Quote

Which was the sole reason I wanted him to have a helmet. I have gotten used to it though. Eww, you're right. I didn't notice that before. I don't think Lego would see creating new head molds solely for two colored heads for Two Face and Deathstroke as the smartest investment. I agree, I think that one is hideous. I especially hate the red eye. The red eye is actually at the bottom of the list of things I dislike about that suit. Why is the Squad version so awful? Personally, I couldn't care less which version of DS we get, and I think the one we get looks good enough. It might be less useful to mold a new helmet for him, anyway, since it's unlikely that he would appear in more sets. I just hate the new 52 designs in general; the classic designs are way better IMO. We could've gotten a new helmet with two eyeholes that they could've used again, with Slade's eyepatch blacking out the one. That would've been nice. And with as much as DC loves Deathstroke and plastering him on everything, I'd say this isn't the last time we see him in a set. He's like DC's other Batman (the two are sort of similar if you think about it). Supposedly Deathstroke will be in the Suicide Squad movie; depending on how big his role is and how many sets we get for that movie (assuming it's not 0), we could see him again next year. Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I don't think Lego would see creating new head molds solely for two colored heads for Two Face and Deathstroke as the smartest investment. They made a brand new mold for Wolverine's cowl that they definitely couldn't reuse, especially now that the X-Men are off the table. I don't see how making a mold for two-colored heads would be such a bad idea, especially since they could get some use out of them in themes like Ultra Agents or Ninjago. I love the New 52's character designs for the most part. There're obviously a few weak points (Raven, the first Starfire, Harley Quinn, Lobo) but overall I think it modernizes their iconic costumes and makes them a bit more interesting and colorful and unique. I think costume-wise, the DC movies could learn a thing or two from the New 52. Quote

I think costume-wise, the DC movies could learn a thing or two from the New 52. I really have no problem with the idea of modernizing the characters costumes, but the new 52 just did a horrible job IMO (the costumes are no where near as interesting, colorful, unique, or iconic as the originals were). My biggest complains with the new 52 redesigns are definitely Reverse Flash and The Rogues (Captain Cold (winner of the worst-new-52-redesign "award" by a landslide), Heatwave, Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, Trickster, and Golden Glider) whose redesigns have little to no resemblance to the original characters (neither do the characters themselves, but that's another matter entirely... at least they made it a different, although not nearly as interesting as his predecessors, Reverse Flash so that the original designs for Eobard Thawne and Hunter Zoloman are unchanged I guess). I don't like what they did to Raven, Starfire, Joker, Harley Quinn, Lobo, Superman, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Deadshot, Amanda Waller, Darkseid, Bizzaro, Wonder Woman, Mr. Freeze, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, or Kid Flash either (that's all I could think of off the top of my head, I could probably come up with more though), but none of them are near as terrible as the Rogues and Reverse Flash. Batman characters, on the other hand, I found to be well designed for the most part and I actually like what they did for quite of few of them perhaps more than the classic designs themselves. Sorry about the rant guys (I'll get back to whining about Raven now ). Quote
8BrickMario Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) The problem with some of the New 52 designs is that they operate under the "consumers want gritty/realistic, not silly". Thus why Cap. Cold and Harley are no longer allowed to wear a parka and a motley bodysuit. "Mirror Master was way too colorful and goofy-looking, so that HAS to go! Never mind that the Flash is all red and yellow and wears a silly winged mask!" Apparently, we're not able to take the old costumes seriously, so in come the sexy or edgy looks in their place. Honestly, though, I can still appreciate the new Harley outfit. Slightly. (The colored pigtails replacing the hat save it for me, it's a clever call back.) But I do prefer LEGO's more modest approach that makes the costume look like an acrobat's unitard, as it fits the character's theme more than a bursting corset. adotnamedstud Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) I quite like the New 52 suits. I don't see a thing wrong with them. When reading comics you really just enjoy the art and the stories. I can't remember one time when I was reading a comic and said that a character had a hideous design. That's not the point of comics, if you want the old suits read the ~1000 something comics they are in including those suits. Pre-52 and Post-52 both gave great stories and something to enjoy. I just think nagging about the suits is the dumbest thing ever. I used to dislike a few costumes when looking at some covers/art/etc. but then I realized I was being to harsh to the people who get paid to so such work. And just ended up disregarding my dislike as I read more and more. On another note, I'd like to just take a moment to praise the new Batboat set. That mixes a new style in with what I loved about the old set. Personally, DS is cool and so is Robin. The more the merrier. I'm definitely going to try and buy that set more than once. I think Harley's got more to do with the "is girl so must show all the skin and cleavage" rule of modern comics (although it seems like the kind of outfit the Joker would make Harley wear based on his psychology, but that's something for another day). I honestly think that, pardon the pun, that Captain Cold's new outfit is cooler. The sleeveless jacket is really sleek and makes sense for a character whose arms tend to be covered in ice (which granted, wasn't the best decision), and is something that I would actually wear. The New 52 Flash is one of the only books I'm reading at the moment, and it seems that lately none of the Rogues have gotten much limelight, save for Gorilla Grodd. I don't think they were aiming for gritty so much as modern, with a more vibrant and detailed style. Look at Superman; they took his classic circus strongman trunks, which have long been considered outdated, and replaced them with a nice red belt, which balances the colors out. They took what wasn't quite working anymore and updated it. The Flash's yellow seams that are often mocked really break up the red in some situations, and make the bursts of lightning when he runs feel more natural. Quote

Not a fan of the new Robin, but Deathstroke is fantastic, best figure we've gotten in this theme so far besides maybe Captain Cold. Man you really had me going until I realized the pun you referred to wasn't you using a cold term when speaking about Captain Cold, but rather you saying his new 52 suit is good. Well played my good sir, well played indeed. The problem with some of the New 52 designs is that they operate under the "consumers want gritty/realistic, not silly". Thus why Cap. I like how replacing green with silver and having him wear a mask instead of a helmet is somehow making him less goofy looking. And somehow that ridiculous hooded jacket Captain Cold is wearing is better than his iconic parka, I guess. I understand modernizing the costumes, and am fine with it, but changing things that just didn't to be changed in the first place is just stupid IMO. Edited March 7, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote

BatZack Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 In my mind Dc is obsessed with promoting Cyborg and Deathstroke. They seem to be in everything. I've been thinking, and in spite of the new supergirl picture shown today for the tv show, I'd like to share my theory. Notice how suddenly we've gotten Green Arrow, Flash and Supergirl in the one theme. I think dc is releasing these characters from the shows in sets in their comic/cartoon costume instead of the TV show version as they could be considered to "gritty". Also, notice how we have teen titans members as well in the upcoming wave, with the TV titans show to air soon Quote

8BrickMario Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Or MODOK's head. But barring those few exceptions, LEGO usually tries to make their new minifig parts multipurpose, and if not, at least include the character that uses the piece in more than one set. Quote

I hope you are right about the other two though, I would love to see some more of the Flash, Green Arrow, and their enemies (especially non-new-52 versions of Reverse Flash, Mirror Master, Heatwave, Weather Wizard, Pied Piper, Captain Boomerang, and Golden Glider). Or MODOK's head. But barring those few exceptions, LEGO usually tries to make their new minifig parts multipurpose, and if not, at least include the character that uses the piece in more than one set. And with MODOK, and even a masked Wolverine (whom I guessing Lego planned to rerelease), there wasn't really any other way to do them without a new mold. strangely Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) i find it strange they didnt give starfire this hair. it would have been easy enough Yeah, I would have thought they'd use that piece too. Then again I can understand the coloring choice they made, her hair in the last two shows are a dark red but with some pink mixed in (It's more pink in TTG, but it also has a pinkish tone in the first show). Ultimately both hairpieces aren't really perfect, ones too dark the others too light. Edited March 7, 2015 by strangely Quote
