8BrickMario Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 True, but most reception to the model has been "A Batman mech? Seriously?" But LEGO does have creative liberty, and they're allowed to choose classic vs. N52 if they don't like the DCnu version. I haven't heard of DC forcing them to make anything, since LEGO is the one making the toys for them. Sure, DC probably has a lot to do with the Bat-centric sets, but otherwise, I thought LEGO could make what they wanted and run it by DC for approval. Quote
VictorFrenchFries Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I like that LEGO combined the New 52 and Classic. In my opinion, New 52 works better for Plastic Man, Green Arrow, and Martian Manhunter. Classic works better for Supergirl, the Batman villains, and (obviously) Starfire. Hawkman is somewhere in the middle with having Golden Wings and Helmet but no exaggerated armor and sharp thingies. Hexagonical_waffles Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Am I the only one who isn't repulsed by Starfire's new 52 design? I mean, we're grown adults right? There's nothing wrong with a little bit of sexy.... Quote

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of sexy.... Putting this nicely, it's not sexy, it's trashy to be honest. No reason to show that much skin while fighting supervillains..not to mention a good portion of the target audience are kids and they don't need to see all that on a Lego fig. Quote

Throw you in, and I think's that's about everyone. Edited March 17, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote

8BrickMario Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I think it's a poor justification for Starfire's near-nudity, as well. "Her planet doesn't have a taboo?" Well, too bad, you're on earth, Kori, do as the Earthlings. Honestly, how many women would appreciate being rescued by a hero with almost nothing on? If the DCU was real, she would be causing controversies there, too. All because some artists decided to entertain themselves with an oversexualized costume. We already had Power Girl for that, no need to rope in Starfire and Harley Quinn. And that's why I like the minifig versions better than the comics versions. Harley with a tiny, bursting corset? Why? Harley with a checkered acrobat outfit? Perfectly appropriate. But, what I'm trying to say is. thank goodness for LEGO's younger target audience! Quote

8BrickMario Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Well, thank you. I thought I was going into "venting" territory. But perhaps DC could learn that "edgy" and "adult" aren't necessary for a comic franchise to be good. Sure, they improved Starfire's look (with clear TTG influence), but who's to say they won't make a modest heroine more sexy post-Convergence? Whatever the case, LEGO knows (for the most part) how to make their minifigures both accurate and appropriate, which is why I collect the theme. Edited March 17, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
Rinzler Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Anyone remember how CW Reverse Flash was rumoured as an SDCC exclusive? I think TLG may have already made a mould for his mask, the top of Ultron's helmet, I know it's not all correct around the eyes but it could work, the Lightning bolts would be printed on the side. Has anyone else had this idea? Quote
Robianco Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'd have thought they'd just recolour the existing Flash helmet. Quote

If we do see a CW Reverse Flash SDCC, I think they'd go the Captain America route with his helmet and just ignore the lighting bolts on his head altogether. I'd have thought they'd just recolour the existing Flash helmet. Or this. Edited March 17, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote

Whatever the case, LEGO knows (for the most part) how to make their minifigures both accurate and appropriate, which is why I collect the theme. Um, Black Canary's fishnets are back, so I guess that would be sexier than the weird padding she has had the last few years? I don't see what that has to do with Starfire deciding Earth is a little chilly though? I hate "sexy" costumes as much as the next guy (er, maybe it depends on the next guy), but DC gets rid of one of the worst offenders (Starfire was possibly only second to Star Sapphire, and she has been covered head to toe since the reboot) and you just complain about it in a roundabout way because they might do something stupid later? No wonder we can never be happy. :/ Quote
8BrickMario Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'm just not ruling anything out. I certainly appreciate Starfire's new costume, but I'm not entirely sure that DC is going to make every female heroine more modest. You can never be sure, but they seem to want wider appeal, so I think it's optimistic for the female costumes. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Am I the only one who isn't repulsed by Starfire's new 52 design? I mean, we're grown adults right? There's nothing wrong with a little bit of sexy.... It's not a matter of "sexy". It defies every law of sense and gravity in its design for the sake of turning her into a sex object. It certainly doesn't help that her character didn't escape the grounds of sex object much in the writing, either. The new costume is much better. It's both sensible and visually appealing. It feels like Starfire, which doesn't require her to be as close to naked as they can get. Starfire is the kind of character you can do that with, though. She's never really had a costume with too much weight on it to change. Look at Wonder Woman. No matter how many times they try, they'll never be able to go anywhere beyond slight changes to the traditional suit. Heck, even giving her pants stirred up problems. Starfire's costumes have never been too attached to her, both literally and figuratively. Quote
