strangely Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I guess my only problem with this is if it's mini-dolls they really won't be visually compatible with the rest of the Lego DC universe. I would prefer these to be minifigures. I guess if it did turn out to be minidolls at the very least the accesories and hat/hair would still be compatible with minifigures. This does kind of explain why Harley and Poison Ivy were pretty lazy rehashes, if that press release is anything to go by we'll see those characters in a Lego set next year. Quote
legofanatic12 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 If LEGO decided to make sets based on DC Super Hero girls, I would prefer to have minifigures instead of minidolls. Not only sets with minidolls like Friends, Elves, and Disney Princesses that are targeted for young girls, but some regular sets with minifigures does like LEGO Juniors. And also LEGO DC Superheroes needs more female superheroines that never made before in sets physically like Zatanna, Black Canary, and Wonder Girl. Quote
psqidexslizer248 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hopefully they will be mini figures, not mini dolls (and we'll get some new characters, especially Raven). Quote

Agreed, we need more DC Female Super Heroes in physical minifigure forms that never made before. If the sets has mini-dolls, I will definitely not buying it. Quote
psqidexslizer248 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Just occurred to me, what if the Heroines and Villainess DLC is a promotion of sorts for this whole girl-aimed theme/sub-theme/line? Agreed, we need more DC Female Super Heroes in physical minifigure forms that never made before. If the sets has mini-dolls, I will definitely not buying it. Oh yeah. Really hoping we'll see Raven, Black Canary, Killer Frost, Amanda Waller, Huntress, Hawkgirl, Cheshire, Artemis, Terra, Granny Goodness, Fire, Ice, Wonder Girl, Power Girl, Batwoman, Vixen, Zatanna, Mera, Spoiler, Carrie Kelly, Plastique, Cheetah, Giganta, Circe, Silver Swan, Ravager, Star Sapphire, and I think that should do for the first wave . alohamitsu Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 We men love more women so bring them on I am gay so no I dont love women (at least not in that way) I do not really see this new series being quite a success to be honest... Quote
Steph 104th Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 My main problem with minidolls is that firstly they don't fit in and secondly they are very stiff figures. I don't really mind DC attempting to introduce more Female heroes into the sets, but then it must not impede on the set, in other words we better get the Male heroes that compliment the Female heroes. For example if we get Raven and Starfire together, let them be accompanied by Beast boy. I just hope it isn't a female majority minifig line up and instead more female characters incorporated. Side note, if this is happening we better get Hawkgirl! Just occurred to me, what if the Heroines and Villainess DLC is a promotion of sorts for this whole girl-aimed theme/sub-theme/line? Oh yeah. Really hoping we'll see Raven, Black Canary, Killer Frost, Amanda Waller, Huntress, Hawkgirl, Cheshire, Artemis, Terra, Granny Goodness, Fire, Ice, Wonder Girl, Power Girl, Batwoman, Vixen, Zatanna, Mera, Spoiler, Carrie Kelly, Plastique, Cheetah, Giganta, Circe, Silver Swan, Ravager, Star Sapphire, and I think that should do for the first wave . Problem is the only one children will know is Wonder Woman. So as excited as I am for some of those characters, I don't think girls(who the products are 'aimed at') will really give a brick. Quote
Risgrynsgrot Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 This sounds great, LEGO Friends is very stereotypically girlish, Elves were a big step in a different direction and hopefully this will be too. I mean, I don't think we'll get "Supergirl and Poison Ivy gets their hair done at Gotham Hair" I suppose it'll be Minidolls, and it's a shame since I'd gladly buy sets if it were minifigs - the superhero line is a total sausuage fest. Well, LEGOs loss. Quote
Robianco Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 In a practical sense I'm not sure how the detailing and accessories will work on the sculpted heads of the minidolls. The rounded head of the mini figure allowed for easy moulding and use of things such as cowls and hoods but as the head of the minimal is sculpted with cheek contours etc I can see there being some issues with how these fit over faces.. hair is one thing but masks etc is another thing entirely.... maybe I should try the Batgirl mask on a minidoll and see how it works. Would Lego really decide to produce figures that were exclusive to a minidoll shape? It's one thing to introduce Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Catwoman, Ivy etc into a theme but It's a big step to give that theme a raft of figures that haven't been introduced into the existing Superheroes line. BatZack Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Whether or not there's a new DC theme or whether they'll just add some of the female sets under the DC line, I would prefer for them to be just minifigures, however I'm going back on my earlier statement and saying that the mini dolls wouldn't be as bad as I originally thought, but I'd still prefer minifigures. Perhaos this is a way to get more females. Zatanna, Black Canary, Cheetah, Mera, RAVEN! I would hope for Zatanna the most out of them all but still Quote

Supposing Lego goes with 1:1 copies of the designs in the promo pic everyone reuses existing hair pieces who easily fit on the dolls. Only exceptions are Batgirl who definitely gets a new mould as the main face of the line and Katana where I think it´s more likely that her mask is just white print directly to the head instead of a mould because her entire face looks like one plane on the picture. The line is pretty useless for us and I doubt that the line (including whatever Mattel and other companies make) will catch on with the target audience. Despite what websites like Tumblr tell people, girls as a whole don´t like action-oriented stories, if they do it has to be like Arrow and Smallville and share 75% of its screentime with romance subplots of characters that weren´t even in the source material to begin with and would be better placed in a completely different show. I think most sales of this will come from young, "progressive" parents, that already bought normal superhero Lego sets for their daughters to unsuccessfully force them to not conform to gender roles. Why can´t the few girls that actually like superheroes keep playing with the normal toylines? Having to create new girls-only lines just confirms that girls don´t like the actual thing so why bother trying to sell something to someone who doesn´t want it? Quote
psqidexslizer248 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) What I think will happen is Lego will give us a bunch of sets with minidolls each containing one new character, wait a year or two until we've had plenty of time to buy them, and then release those characters in minifigure form. After all, why only make money on the character once if you can make money on them twice . Problem is the only one children will know is Wonder Woman. So as excited as I am for some of those characters, I don't think girls(who the products are 'aimed at') will really give a brick. But isn't the point of this whole excursion to expose girls to the the DC Universe by introducing them to the different female characters? Well, besides making a profit off of the parents of little girls, anyway. Edited April 23, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote

Nearly all comics have a 12+ or above rating (I'm using the European rating so I guess it's T in the USA) so the whole franchising is more oriented towards "older" users. Just my two cents Quote

8BrickMario Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I feel like LEGO's target audience (children) doesn't quite work with "DC Girls". DC is definitely a teen-adult audience, so a minidoll theme would be too girly and kid-oriented (in my mind, at least). Who are LEGO trying to draw in by making sets for this? Teenage girls? Quote
Robianco Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 That promo image does certainly hint towards minidolls though... Quote
psqidexslizer248 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) That promo image does certainly hint towards minidolls though... I wouldn't say that as that's just DC's artwork and doesn't have anything really to do with whether or not Lego goes with minidolls or minifigures, just what those figures/dolls will probably look like. Minidolls do seem the most likely, unfortunately. Edited April 24, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote

I was looking at it from the view that any DP or Friends sets have a similar shape to those shown on the image... it's a bigger departure to show them that way but then give them minifigs. I'll still keep my fingers crossed. Quote

Well, the minidolls do resemble real (don't ask me what I mean by that term) people more than the minifigures do, but yeah it definitely doesn't look good for the minifigures. (If Lego dares to make a Raven minidoll without a Raven minifigure, though :damn: !!!) Edited April 24, 2015 by psqidexslizer248 Quote
Clone OPatra Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 There's no way the DC Girls sets won't be minidolls. LEGO has been expanding their girl-line horizons since the success of Friends, and this will be another entry into the girl-oriented category, which means minidolls. Hopefully they make the minidoll characters more expressive than the Friends ones, which always look nearly identical. The promo image doesn't really give me much hope, though, since all of the characters in the promo image look almost exactly the same! Quote

It's not 100% guaranteed (yet) they'll be minidolls, but it (unfortunately ) looks that way for basically the reason you stated and others. I have a feeling Lego will just use the existing doll molds with some new printing and colors, and the existing hair molds except a new one for Batgirl. Judging by the picture, it looks like we'll be getting Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Katana, Supergirl, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn at least. So far, I'd say that's nothing to really suggest we'll be getting anything (besides Katana and Bumblebee) we haven't already gotten (not that we don't know what might inevitably be coming exclusively as a minidoll - Raven ). Also, I really hope that Wonder Woman shield (assuming we'll be getting one in Lego form) won't be exclusive to this girls theme as I can't see buying a whole set for that one piece (I guess that's what bricks and parts is for) unless it comes in a set with a better invisible jet. just2good Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'm still banking on there being no direct DC Girls sets. The press release just said TLG will help promote it or whatever, but like it didn't mention there being specific sets with a launch date. I dunno, maybe I'm just a skeptic. I think they just mean TLG will include these girls in more and more sets. Quote
Hythonia Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I think there's still a chance that they'll be minifigs. The majority of the characters are wearing pants... do they even have female pants sculpts in the minidoll form? Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Okay, so possibly a minidoll super hero theme .......what's possible then Star Wars .....I say it's Barbie's fault since there is now super hero Barbies ! Quote
