July 15, 20159 yr so.. the death star is dead... guess that throws away all those rumors about a version with updated mini-figs How so? A new version isn't going to come out unless this one was retired first. The DS is, or was, their flagship set so it seems likely to return. Or that we will see something on the same level to replace it. did I miss something? Shop at home has the DS listed as sold out.

July 15, 20159 yr The DS set has been out for seven years which is also totally unprecedented. And I don't see any those other ucs sets as filling the same role. What role is that? We are not privy to how many were sold in the last year? If the Echo Base playset is true, it will easily fill the void.
July 15, 20159 yr Perhaps you don't understand the purpose of a flagship. The echo base, while being cool, hardly compares to the iconic nature of the DS. Sales of the set don't fully tell the story of why it's been around for seven years.
July 15, 20159 yr If the Echo Base playset is true, it will easily fill the void. If the rumor of Echo Base is true, I am not so sure it will fill the void of the Death Star. To echo Darth Punk, the Death Star is a much more iconic than Echo Base, plus I think it has more playability. I don't think it will bite Lego in the rear too bad in the terms of sales, but also I don't see it lasting seven years like the Death Star. Edited July 15, 20159 yr by ISDAvenger
July 15, 20159 yr I'm really liking how things are tweaked slightly from the OT but different enough to feel like there has been at least a little bit of an evolution of their design. There's definitely a much more organic feeling to things with the ST... I hope this translates well into Lego sets... As well as being a cohesive and enjoyable trio of films. I don't really get what you mean by "organic feeling". But regarding your first point, does no one notice how slightly tweaked existing designs ("Special Forces" TIE, X-Wing and especially the Falcon), get everyone screaming "It's just like the OT!!!, while just being different enough to sell the new toys? Why not use designs that would be new to most casual fans, like the TIE Agressor, TIE Hunter, TIE Raptor, TIE Phantom, E-Wing, K-Wing, .... There's not a single reason for not using the starships from the old EU in the new continuity other than recognition value. @ the C-3PO polybag: there's no reason to get this if one's not a completionist. Just put a dark red arm onto your old 3PO and voilà , you have your own TFA version. IMO polybags should only include figures you won't get anywhere else. Edited July 15, 20159 yr by Ephseb

They are a profit-based corporation, not a museum. If it's not making them money, they will no longer produce it. Simple as that. Especially since the set in question contains outdated minifigs and specialised parts that no other set uses. Edited July 15, 20159 yr by Another Brick In The Wall

I am not saying that a 3rd Death Star set would replace the current one, but there is an existing rumor that says there is one. and the ending of this DS set only opens further the plausibility of that rumor. They don't have to fly off the shelves to make a profit. All the initial investment would have been paid off long ago. The purpose of a flag ship is not sales, it's the wow factor. It's to get you excited about the theme. It's to woo new customers who couldn't have imagined owning their own Death Star. It doesn't completely matter if they buy it as long as they buy something. It's no different than going to a car dealership and seeing the high end model sitting in the middle of the show room. How many of those do you think are actually purchased? The price alone may easily make it a profitable item with only selling just a few. That car isn't sitting there because of its sales numbers, it's there because it's a reflection of the brand. It's a reflection of what is possible. It's helping to sell the other cars, acting as the same advertisement one would see on TV. You are undervaluing the idea of a flagship and looking at this solely through the lens of a consumer. No matter what industry some products serve more than just the simple idea of sales. Some may make large profits and other may have razor thin margins. You have to look at the bigger picture as the overall profit and sales are what ultimately matter. Products serve different people for different reasons. TLG makes a whole host of themes to help keep and more importantly aquire new customers.

Let's wait to see what the Hoth Echo Base set is like before we make sweeping statements. Given the plot details to Rogue One, it's almost certain we'll see another DS set. My personal preference is a reissue of 10143 which was a glorious display set.
July 15, 20159 yr So what could be the next large ($400+) set that TLG will release. I pray for an AT-AT like Cavegod's or the Nebulon B

July 15, 20159 yr So what could be the next large ($400+) set that TLG will release. I pray for an AT-AT like Cavegod's or the Nebulon B The original rumor (many pages back in this thread) was about a massive UCS set the size of a death star. It doesn't look like Echo Base will be that kind of a set. The speculation back then was about Cloud City. And I still have hope for a UCS Cloud city... maybe next year.
July 15, 20159 yr I am currently looking at the place were that Falcon is going in my room Also Chewies new Bowcaster looks good.
July 15, 20159 yr FBTB has pictures of the X-Wing and Millennium Falcon sets: http://www.fbtb.net/...boxes-minifigs/ Wow. I've decided not to collect TFA sets (I only collect OT), but damn those sets look nice. I'm really liking the mixed collors of the Falcon. New stud-shooting x-bow for chewie. BB-88 doesn't look very fancy though...
July 15, 20159 yr I am currently looking at the place were that Falcon is going in my room Also Chewies new Bowcaster looks good. lol. So am I.Looks like it was a good idea to save $ for the TFA sets. I guess I'll get all 7 (even if I haven't seem them all). Extremely excited.
July 15, 20159 yr so the new falcon looks like the previous version, where it will open up. Can't wait to see the interior!!! Gosh, I definitely have to get that black x-wing that is amazing... Not sure if I need two falcons, but hey... edit.. also looks like chewie's crossbow shoots studs, but sideways? i think that's new too right? Edited July 15, 20159 yr by ARSLOCK
July 15, 20159 yr The colors of the X-Wing.... :-S That's frightening. At least there is a new and accurate windscreen. The new MF looks very good. A bit more detailed than the previous one. And maybe a little bit more flat, which would be a good thing as well. :)

I don't mean any disrespect, but it's thinking like this that nearly bankrupted the company.
July 15, 20159 yr At first I thought I'd skip the new Falcon, but comparing it to the last...now I think I'm gonna get it. Or put it on my Christmas list, anyway The figs looks great! ...is that Kanjiklub Gang Member wearing a swim cap for his headgear? The new X-wing helmets look cool, too, and seems like the visor is part of the helmet (akin to the recent Ultra Agents helmets)... which is good, since we can replace the Resistance X-wing Pilot's head with this one and have Greg Grunberg's character from the movie
July 15, 20159 yr Wow, those look great! I'm a little surprised they actually went with the colors of Poe's X-Wing instead of the grey and blue one, but I would have been fine with either color combination. I wasn't expecting those two guys in the Falcon though... Kanjiklub Gang? Tasu Leech? They look pretty cool though. I don't really like Chewbacca's stud-shooting bowcaster and prefer the old one.
July 15, 20159 yr The sets look incredible. I'm so happy that we finally get to see them. I bet we'll see the rest of 'em soon, as well.
