And it's hardly unusual for TLG to wait just before a release to showcase new sets.

So it seems they may know a bit more about marketing their own product than an a very impatient individual stomping his foot.

I apologize, I must have missed your post on an actual marketing strategy that involved more than you getting your way. That doesn't neglect whatever agreement that involved Disney and TLG, as other companies actions have no bearing on said agreement. Nor the fact that TLG has millions of customers and none of the people here are their target market.

Perhaps if you actually took the time to contemplate what many others were saying you would understand people's "aversion". If budget is your concern, well...set a budget! The prices have been known for weeks now. Set aside those. You've seen 2 full sets, and the build of another (plus the pieces & minifigs of the smallest set).

That you haven't seen all the sets yet doesn't mean you don't have enough information to set aside money for them. If TLG doesn't reveal the images before September 4th, and you get to the store & don't like what you see, then you've lost nothing. "I don't care for this set, so I've now got $30/whatever-dollars to spend on other things, or save." The sets won't be there for one day only, they'll be out for months! So I don't understand why you're so upset about this.

As for what you don't understand, people have explained it already. There is a marketing strategy for The Force Awakens. There are likely many elements of the movie considered "spoilers", so marketing could blow the whole thing if approached without considerable planning. If D23 or anytime in August doesn't bring official reveals for the Force Friday product launch, it really won't hurt anything because people will simply be wowed (or disappointed) at the stores when they see the items for the first time and get to decide whether or not to buy 'em. But, again, the products aren't available only on September 4th, so there's no real need to reveal everything beforehand.

For all of you who have to budget....you could just..idk, wait and budget after they reveal the sets? You may not get them at release but if you're the adults you claim you are, that shouldn't be a problem.

For all those of you in the U.K the Sith Infiltrator is now available at £84.99, OUCH ! Gonna need some VIP points to sharpen that blow :)

Pictures or not, the new sets won't be retiring anytime soon so no point on telling TLG I won't be buying sets because you don't release photos in a timely manner

It's not ridiculous at all. Disney/LFL have a marketing plan. It doesn't include revealing everything available on Force Friday by the end of July. This is not unusual in the slightest, especially with JJ Abrams involved. We don't even have a proper movie trailer yet--just a pair of teasers--so we know little about the story from official sources. It makes perfect sense not to release images of all the ships & characters due to that, even if there were no other reasons.

Some of you guys really kill me, you really do. Sometimes I think this a Jerry Springer forum versus a Lego forum.

I also find it amusing and annoying at the same time that there is always more complaining on how poorly a set is made and how it could be made better, versus how it is good it looks. Constructive criticism here there is ok, but jeeze it's like every other post is nothing but negativity. I've said it before the majority of these sets are designed and marketed for kids...so they are designed for a child's interests. You want it better.....and cheaper...go to Bricklink and make your own MOC.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion dorsn't make it right or wrong. There is a consensus one way and if you fall on the otherside that's fine too.

No, not worrisome at all. It does however, reinforce the idea that 'leaks' are as carefully controlled as any marketing attempt traditionally thought of as such. TLG has put sets on shelves that we never saw a picture of before they were for sale, and they sold just fine.

You know the prices and the set names. Budget accordingly. If something you thought you'd want doesn't strike your fancy, don't buy it. If something you didn't budget for does strike you as desirable, don't buy it day one. Wait a payday or two, then buy it.

Nokturn, I'm genuinely sorry if I've contributed to your distress, that was not the intention. As I said previously, I'm happy to agree to disagree on an opinion..and move on. But you must understand why your views were considered inflammatory and evoked the response it did? From a personal point of view it's not that I don't want to see pictures or new information about upcoming sets, I'm as excited as everyone else. But I don't think Lego (and by extension Disney and Lucasfilm) are making a mistake by not pre-releasing official images, nor do I believe consumers have the right to demand it. There is enough leaked information about TFA sets to make informed "budget" decisions already. For example, I already have the last MF and therefore will not be purchasing the new one, thus allowing me to spend that money on other sets.

As others have said threatening to leave the forum shouldn't be your response. It's only going to leave you with lingering resentment and you will loose a rich source of information and opposing views (which is a good thing) on a hobby that you are clearly passionate about. Peace.

Also: opinions should be based in facts. As none of us have managed multi-million-dollar international marketing campaigns, as well as in various ways, suggesting that they are wrong to have not released images at this point isn't based in fact, but personal preference. I promise that Disney has experience in just this sort of thing and hires those who do. Pretty sure they know better than any of us how best to proceed. Would I like to see pics? Sure, but it won't kill me if I don't see anything between now and release day.

Plus, the instant the pics drop, a bunch of people will complain that angles are wrong, there are too many exposed studs (and not enough) all based on a couple tenths of a second of screen time. Why expose themselves to that sort of nonsense? We've already seen exactly that for Ren's Shuttle, the new X-wing and the updated Falcon.

What we think looks cool on September 4th may be proven to be horribly inaccurate and / or dull when December arrives, and vice versa. Seeing set shots now is almost completely devoid of context to base assessments upon.

Because nobody NEEDS to see pics early. We visit the thread with interest IF information or pics are released early but are ultimately restricted by what information is released, officially or otherwise.

When I visit a Lego store it's usually full of excited kids pondering which sets they can buy or showing their parents which huge sets they'd like with the hope of getting them for birthdays or Christmas. They don't have a clue what's being released in a week, a month or in three months time and they don't care. If they like it on the shelf then they want it.

We, as AFOLS, get to follow these threads and view waves before release which is great but ultimately not necessary for Legos main audience.

We all work to budget constraints... If you think you're going to want a whole Ep VII wave on day one then budget for it. I'm not sure I'd have the space to build and display an entire wave in one go so I also factor practical things like that into buying decisions.

I'll keep visiting this thread daily but not seeing something doesn't diminish my excitement for the movie or my hope for some great sets that accompany it.

Long story short, TIE fighter is automatic buy, regardless of pictures or not! We all know what it'll look like!

The new info list sounds great, but it also says 'rumoured' so I'm not putting too much stock into it (with all due respect to its creator).

Nonetheless, some opinions;

Can't say too much about the TFA sets yet, would need pictures for that. Don't think I'll be going for FO stormtroopers, though... I spent quite a bit of money on OT stormtroopers already, recently... and though FO's troopers look cool, not yet interesting enough to buy them too.

Hoth Battle is probably the Echo Base? Probably won't buy it, unless it looks really amazing. I'm generally not that interested in Hoth sets

Bespin Carbon Freeze Chamber sounds cool. I'm picturing something similar to the Death Star Final Duel set. Maybe it comes with some OT stormtroopers [/newobsession]

Droid Escape Pod doesn't interest me at all. I also own the previous two, so...

Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor... Sounds cool. Don't really care if it's the red or blue one. But the blue one would be cool again, with a hyperdrive ring

No Rebel sets for me

Star Wars Battlefront Packs... probably a Rebels and Empire variant. To be honest this part sounds really 'wishlist' to me, so this is what I'm most skeptical about.

If true, I think it could be really cool though and look forward to knowing the contents.
