Hmm, maybe it'll be a combination of 10143 and 10188? Very interested in what they'll announce to be honest. I imagine we won't be hearing anything about it before November/December?

No, I'm serious. My source literally told me that.

Your source April Fooled you is all I can guess

I literally will NEVER believe this until I actually see pictures.

It makes literally NO sense whatsoever to replace it with a bigger one, regardless of however it is designed.

Aside from whether it's true or not: why wouldn't it make any sense? The figs are outdated (there are new versions of Darth Vader, the Emperor, 3PO etc) and I'm sure the station itself could be built better now.

We're not talking about a £30 or £80 set here. We're talking about a £275 set which is quite a lot to the majority of people to throw at a Lego set that has been out for 8 years, the market is well and truly saturated with them by now, their sales of them are probably trickling along (but still nicely) at a slow pace. It isn't a set that most people will have bought and then would be happy to throw even more money at (because as the rumour [i use the word rumour loosely here] says, it'll be bigger which means more money) get the 'ever so slightly updated' version. The only way it could really get better is if they put panels over the top of it so it could double up having the exterior look of a DS while still having all the play functions on the inside. The inside can't really be done that much better because at the end of the day, it still has to have its solid playability that can take a beating by kids, hence, in such a small space for those multiple rooms, solid builds=/= increase in detail in spaces already small.

Outdated figs (which let's be honest, are still pretty damned decent and still retain a modern Lego look about them) isn't much of an excuse to rehash a £275 set.

Heck, the current one isn't even retired yet and there is this 'rumour' of a new one to take its place next year? Since when in the history of Lego, on something this scale, ever had rumour of a new version of it to be released the very next year while the current one is still for sale on TLG website?

What in all of that does make sense?!

Ok, starting with the figures, they are outdated although still good, there is still the fact that this low production set has to have figures made exclusively for its low number runs. Costly to manufacture (change in mold/prints/assembly of figs) so perhaps they want to end as much of those as they can. Don’t forget Vader gets a new helm soon, they might not want to keep making the old while the new is out too.

Then there is the price point you mention and the slowing of sales, Lego has got to be considering ending this set soon, its 8 years old after all.

Bigger is Better, sadly this isn’t always the case but it’s still what the fans ask for constantly. And if you are going to redo something like the DS, then Bigger will make it easier to include more details. And if they can hold a price point near the old one it will sell very well.

Lastly the timing of it, rumor while the old is still available… this one might be a game changer (lets be honest Lego really doesn’t follow the rules we try to make for their high dollar sets DS itself is proof of this) But think about it a bit, perhaps Lego has decided there will always be a Death Star set available, and after 8 years it’s time to refresh this top tier set to help revitalize sales of basically the same set. There will be people who buy a new one to complete collections; there will also be parents who buy it simply from the news of a new one (and not knowing about the current one since it’s in very few retail stores)

Now I’m not saying that this rumor is true, but there are ways to view things to make this at least plausible.

Are there any more rumours for 2016? Maybe new Vader TIE, Cloud Car, TIE Bomber?

I have to agree with Fuppylodders on this one....another bigger Death Star sounds so unlikely...the current one in Canada is $499.99, which already is A LOT of money...if they made a bigger one...I for one would never buy it, have never bought anything over $200 because I personally just don't...I dunno if many people would shell out that much money for a newer version...it's an unwise move from LEGO in my opinion.

To be honest, how many Lego sets do you know that have been out for 8 years? I still think this is an April's Fools joke, I can't imagine a bigger set being commercially viable, but damn, some part of me wishes its true.

Yeah and your source just happened to give you this information on April Fools Day. I'll believe it when I see it. Personally It doesn't make any sense since the new Hoth set is probably going to replace the old Death star.

No, Hoth base would and should replace Ewok Village.

Fuppylodders, I am with you 100% on this one. I will probably believe it when I see official pics. As stated in my previous post, it makes absolutely no sense to have a bigger one while the other still sells well, minifigure argument notwithstanding. Besides, I believe (if anyone can confirm it, please do) that some DS minifigs have been slightly updated since 2008.

I do understand a need for TLG to have a flagship product, especially with the new movie around the corner, but then, I'd assume they'd want something iconic from that movie and seriously, as also stated in my previous post, a third DS in SW universe would be, together with a possible Sheeve's resurrection, reason enough not to go to theaters, and yes, we are talking Star Wars here...

They could just update the figures in production and make some new pictures. They already updated the Death Star set to include newer Han and Luke heads around 2010 (which in the meantime became outdated again).

I would also guess if they do a re-release it would be near identical to the last set and just have some slight figure design changes and maybe some bit parts changed for better construction/stability/color correctness. Like how 6212 X-Wing and 4502 X-Wing are the same set just different figures, one has a Dagobah hut, the other doesn´t and the nose is grey on Dagobah and white in 6212.

Of course I don´t believe in any of this and still think that in a righteous world, which I hope we inhabit, the Death Star will be replaced by a Cloud City of the same kind of design so we could finally get a new classic Lando after over a decade. I just don´t get it, why does everybody at Lego hate Lando so damn much?

Heck, the current one isn't even retired yet and there is this 'rumour' of a new one to take its place next year? The X-Wing. After the 2004 Dagobah X-Wings cancelation in 2005 resulted in people complaining enough on the customer service about a new version they released one in 2006 and kept it in production until summer 2011. It was obvious then that the January 2012 wave would have a new version. The 2012 X-Wing left production a short time ago which is probably due to the new episode 7 version which apparently replaces the X-Wing even though they are very different ships but I guess marketing teams do this kind of stuff to people.

I do understand a need for TLG to have a flagship product, especially with the new movie around the corner, but then, I'd assume they'd want something iconic from that movie

I doubt anybody has enough confidence in that movie to release a set more than 150$ worth just months after release.

There may be super weapons in the new trilogy, but no resurrected Sheev, no actual "Death Stars", and no Galaxy Guns (too silly a name).

I have no problems with super-weapons, but some creativity bitte schoen. I'd say bring it on to say... Sun Crusher? :)

Yup, a silly name like that might CATAPULT right back at ya.

A question: are the TIE pilots of the new Gozanti-cruiser set new? Different printing for the helmets, e.g., or are they the same we had with the TIE Advanced?

They are the same as the TIE Advanced - 'Rebels'- style printing.
