Robianco Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I agree that the main thing stopping them doing trench coats as per the customisers is the removal of arms... there's no real way to put those on any other way. I remember as a kid trying to put the plastic capes on Vader, Ben and Leia for the kenner figs and they stretched like hell on the arm sockets. I think Han looks fine with them printed on but being able to give Leia that piece is a bonus. I wonder will what also work with the Luke figure from the Ewok Village (and the Final Duel alternative)? I'm thinking that poncho with a rebel trooper helmet would make a perfect Speederbike Luke. afolaus Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I like the Endor Han very much. It's just that I remember a lot of people (not the majority though) complaining about the cantina obi wan and even aragon which all use the same printing technique to resemble an coat. Quote

Tariq j Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I like Han as well! Like others have said a cloth piece would look odd and maybe to bulky. Quote
Flieger Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 OK, Sentinel, not Lambda. They look a heck of a lot more similar than that new large V-shaped shuttle in the new TFA trailer that people are bemoaning as too similar to older craft. Yep, pure nit picking. But cannot say I didn't warn you. As nice as getting figures from the end of the season would be, I think the omission to protect the on-show surprises is/was more important. We can have multiple waves of sets over the next couple years to correct for the omissions, but they only get one chance to bring on surprise characters without leaks or spoilers, and I'm glad we got Tarkin, Vader and Ahsoka as just that: on-air surprises, than to have seen grainy leaked images from summer wave sets that gave away where things were going / who was going to show up. Vader is someone I agree on. He is definetly not good for any season 1 set, especially since he barely showed up in season 2. Ahsoka... well, it was a surprise for casual viewers, but those who read Star Wars fanboards figured it out early on. (Even without screw-ups like the French voice actor of Ahsoka listing her work on Rebels in her portfolio). However I can agree that she may not have been ideal. Tarkin is a different story. I don't think it would have spoilered much, since we knew Tarkin was around at the time and we knew he was an important Imperial ever since the end of RotS. In contrast we did not know about Ahsoka and her rebel contacts. So he would have been a fair figure. After all, not many people google for Star Wars spoilers in Lego sets who would not get these spoilers from the usual fansites anyway. Not to mentioned it would have sparked discussion about possible roles Tarkin could have. And even if secrecy is an issue, we have seen that Lego can keep things under wrap if they want. In the end, I do not think the Gozanti is a horrible set. The problem is that it is the only set we get. No Tarkin in Sentinel Class shuttle with his guard stormtroopers, no Maketh Tua [you know about the spoilers regarding Lothal under Siege...], no Trayvis, no Vizago. And the selling point of the Gozanti is stuff we should have had before: Sabine's helmet and Kallus's hairpiece. The set alone is just not good enough to replace all possible late season 1 sets and bridge to the season 2 sets we hopefully see in 2016. I really think that it would be much better with the company of a Sentinal class shuttle including Tarkin, Tua, and 2x Guard Stormtroopers. Let us take Season 2 into account for a moment: We have seen the trailer and some have seen the opening story arc. Already we know there is a boat load of new possible sets and characters to become minifigs: [i will only refer to trailer stuff here] Vader in a TIE Advanced, the Phoenix Squad with A-Wings, two new inquisitors, new Hera with B-Wing and Quarrie, new Sabine, new Rex/Wolffe/third clone (likely Gregor) with custom AT-TE, new AT-AT (prototype?) and pilots, Rebel soldier with Rebel corvette, Ahsoka... and that is just on top of my head. All these possibilities in a time when TFA just has been released and people will asking for TFA sets. I fear that Rebels won't get the attention it deserves and could have gotten in a summer wave. Clone 01354 Productions Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Really, the whole capes-vs.printing issue is just a constraint of LEGO minifigs themselves. Capes/robes are too difficult to make so that they wrap around the minifig, and the printing will never look quite right. Personally, I think printing works better. Quote
darththeling Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) ^^ Yeah agreed capes look great until they get dusty or if they get lodged in one spot too long. You can't really have a caped minifig piloting a starfighter on display without getting the old "box butt" syndrome when they stand up. Batman is also very guilty of this. Nope. The seven are TFA sets coming out in September. And if I remember correctly the code name wolf was a filler for what is now the constraction sets. Thanks for the correction. I missed that. "Wolf" is written on many pieces of Rebels concept art and also Dave Filoni is said to be fond of wolves (?) so I just assumed there would be another wave. Star Wars: Rebels season one broke several ratings records for Disney XD and is a critical and commercial success. I'm sure for years to come (beyond the series' run, probably) we'll be getting more Rebels sets. All we have to do is sit here and wait. Since it is almost certain that the new episode 7 X-Wing is part of September's bonanza, can we speculate as to which piece will comprise the now half-circular twin engines? I don't see that TLG currently has a piece that works in that particular instance... where they would usually use an Engine 3X3X6 piece. I'm really very pleased with the Gozinti ("Imperial Assualt Carrier") 75016. It's something new and frankly with all these repeats and remakes we get I'm grateful for anything that's new and has a decent piece count. The strong presence throughout Rebels plus the figs makes it an absolute must buy for me. There does appear to be an interior of some substance. I'm dying for better pics of the interior, does anyone know where there are better up-close pics? Edited April 24, 2015 by darththeling Quote
npgcole Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I like Obi-Wan's and Han Solo's coat printing, but I wish they'd do printing on the sides of the legs of Star Wars minifigures, it would make them look even better. Quote

I remember as a kid trying to put the plastic capes on Vader, Ben and Leia for the kenner figs and they stretched like hell on the arm sockets. Maybe Lego could have slits in the fabric going down a little ways from the arm opening to prevent that stretching/tearing? I like Han too. The printing works for him, since he wears a trench coat. Obi Wan clearly wears a cape, and the printing doesn't clearly represent that. He's not a bad fig though. Nope, Obi-Wan doesn't wear a cape. It's a robe, with sleeves & everything. Just like Obi-Wan's robes in the PT. Luke wears a hooded cape in ROTJ, and Vader wears a cape of course. Quote

As long as we have a semi decent representation of the article of clothing, I'm good. Quote

Robianco Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 The more I look at that Tydirium set the less I regret not picking up the UCS version! I must say that the Final Duel set actually looks pretty good now we're looking at box art. Quote

Khaled Yousef Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 The Tyderium is indeed awesome, and I think the UCS version wasn’t that perfect, it was a little too big for minifigs and the nose looked wrong, they could’ve done so much to make it look more accurate for that large scale but they went lazy and just used slopes. The new set looks better proportioned. I think a combination between the snot techniques used in the UCS wings and the proportions of the new set would make the perfect shuttle. Quote

Raskolnikov Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'm probably going to pick up the Gozanti (cause I like big ships), the Final Duel, and the Tyderium. I'll probably scrap the Final Duel playset but I want the Vader and Emperor minifigures. I don't care what anyone says, I think the new Vader helmet is a VAST improvement. It looks more accurate, and it makes him taller than other minifigures. The current version looks ridiculous standing next to a stormtrooper. I'll probably modify the Tyderium and make it a sentinel class shuttle, or something, since I have the UCS. I'm just sort of curious as to how it's made. Quote
Terrasher Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 If I have enough time before they retire, because I still want to buy the sandcrawler, AT-AT, UCS TIE-Fighter and the upcoming Echo Base, I'll probably end up picking the Tydirium so I can display it next to the ewok village (I have the UCS Imperial Shuttle but it's incredibly huge to put next to the village), and the Final Duel because I really liked the scene in the movie and I think TLG has captured the essence of the whole structure quite well. Quote
Venkefedo Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 And they have the correct lightsaber color for Luke (green)... whew!! The fact that the display model used a blue one was driving me nuts. Me too! Especially when I saw it still blue at Celebration. I know it's an easy, cheap fix on the consumer end, but it seems wacky that the error was in place for so long. Unless it was a nod to the original Kenner blue-saber Jedi Knight Luke variant (the only time Kenner gave Luke a blue saber, and then Lucas had to switch colors on 'em after the first trailers were released). That Gozanti is tempting, but it's a missed opportunity IMO to finally get a proper "R4" head, tho it'd require a new element... I'd love to have a Lego version of the R4-style courier astromech Chopper dumped out of the Ghost's cargo hatch (or dropped down the sewer pipe). Not gonna sweat it too much, any new astromech is welcome (one of my favorite things to collect from the Hasbro line, too). A Jawa in the Advent Calendar?! Sweet! Since I may never nab the Sandcrawler (despite its plethora of droids), I had about given up hope of getting any Jawas outside of the large sets or Bricklink (still hoping for a MicroFighter Sandcrawler someday with a Jawa driver). I would've picked up a Celebration Lego set if there was a Jawa instead of, or in addition to, 3PO... that would've eased the sting of the $40 price tag a bit. Quote

To make the shuttle's thrusters look more like This, I did This And, as Khaled said, the nose isn't quite right. It remains one of the trickiest shapes to achieve with bricks and plates - smooth, sloped and properly tapered. LEGO succeeded in two out of those three with the 10212 model. Not bad, I guess. The new 75094 shuttle addresses this shortcoming with less taper on the nose, and better looking thrusters in back. Lobot Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 The new sets have just been listed on Amazon UK as pre-orders, prices below: Imperial Shuttle Tyderium - £79.99 Final Duel - £69.99 Naboo Fighter - £54.99 Flash Speeder - £34.99 The Shuttle seems quite reasonable, but I'm not sure how they arrived at £54.99 for the Naboo Fighter Quote

Now maybe you could find inspiration to fix the nose in Baronsat’s MOC; I think it has more accurate tapering which doesn’t end up so narrow like the official set. Quote
