If you look very closely, you can see a 2x4 plate in front of the explosion. I hope it's a hint that TLG will continue to produce this part... *crossing fingers*

I'll admit that I have a problem with UCS Falcons - if I look at most things for long enough I can normally start to see one.....

I don't think this has been mentioned:

If you spend € 15 or more on SW Lego this month you get a 'SW Rebels Inspiration pack': http://www.disney.nl...ls/lego/how.php

This pack contains (according to Disney) a poster, a keychain, buttons and a stickersheet.

Kids can build a droid, put some stickers on it and upload it on the Disney Rebels site to win prizes.

Looks cool. Thanks!

Nice use of "defenestrated." I haven't heard that word in a long time... a long time.

 Well I originally wrote "thrown through the window" (without the lightning tag) but then I thought: "hey, there's a word for that you know - and how many opportunities are there to say defenestrated by lightning?" so naturally I couldn't resist!

I thought they did get released... As 'The Lost Missions'?

Ahh nevermind, just read the petition.

While i really enjoyed the clonewars, and felt it had been unjustly shortened, things like this happen, Rebels is quite good from what I hear and have seen (waiting until the first 3 seasons are on dvd to wat h them), and I honestly believe there isnt a chance in hell regardless of a petition that they would carry the CW on. Id like to be proven wrong, but doubt I will be...

Dont be to certain about that, TCW was and is still a verry popular show, and dont forget, we get episode 7 this year and who would have expected that. I know I didnt. I give my name for the good cause, give us more clone wars.

Looks dull as dishwater - lots of repetitive building, takes up an enormous footprint to display and a single minifig compared to the last system set which looked just as good IMO but came with a fantastic selection and variety of Imperial figs. It's a fail for me.

I love SW UCS sets but that is by far the ugliest one I can remember... the B-Wing was beautiful in comparison to that.

It's a shame but the old system scale was pretty much perfect and the Advanced Prototype is another great TIE Fighter... but I just can't feel the love for that one.

Posted

Oh yeah, that TIE is atrocious. I generally don't buy UCS sets...because they're just super expensive, but I can admire them for how well they're designed...this one though...laaazy design, even worse price (same as Slave I with less pieces..)...I would skip it even if I didn't see it close up. Nice fig though.

I agree, for a set that size there could’ve been tons of interesting details and wow factors, all missing from this ordinary and uninteresting design.

So, what would you as a Designer do better for the structure+design of our "so beloved" TIE Fighter.

I cannot understand all these people who only complain about TLCs Sets but with no hints now to Do it better....

For me, it is a set boring to build BUT fantastic replica of the film-TIE.

I'll probably end up buying the UCS TIE at some point, but I think that it will be heavily discounted in the next 18 months so I'm prepared to wait.

Personally I'm amazed that they've used blue technic pins for the stand, they look genuinely awful. I appreciate that they're not currently available in black, but considering the high-end status of the model it's surprising that they didn't do another print run of them! :hmpf_bad:

Agreed.

I am surprised to read people complaining about this new 75095 (which is a very close to a real TIE), when we see so much praise on the shameful UCS Slave 75060. the%20cart.gif?f-ed=1

shameful UCS Slave 75060

Really??! What's so bad about the Slave I? The two are incomparable in my opinion...if it's about structure or..let's say playability, I don't think you can fault either set because they're meant to be solely used as models, nothing more. But Slave I to me at least looks much more accurate to the film ship than does the TIE.

It is shameful because he has made one too.

I personally though, think they did an excellent job and it is far from shameful.

@sir von lego

Thats just it though, it actually has been suggested how to make it better, and so far there is no other suggestion that could match it.

On the UCS Tie fighter thread by bob, someone linked to someone's moc of it which while has studs on the ball/cockpit, looks sooo much better in pretty much every way.

That was the suggested improvement and there is no need to say any further improvement.

If you look through the complaints, the wings dont get a mention hardly at all (other than repetitive build but that isn't really a justifiable complaint. Tie has 2 wings, ofc it will have some repetition.) but the cockpit is the main focus of them. They got the wings right, but tried going extravagent on the ball, and, failed.

It looks like it flew into a brick wall and got flattened on the front. I dont remember a tie looking so flat on the front, does anyone else?

I think the design of the UCS TIE Fighter is fine -- I just won't be buying it because I don't like sets that are in slightly-bigger-than-minifigure-scale.

I think LEGO has made a concerted effort to make some designs "look LEGO." In other words, they have chosen to have some blockiness over using larger pieces with curves. They have chosen to expose studs, at times. A lot of people like that. If they had used larger pieces with curves to cover the blockiness, people would complain about that too. They'd say that back in their day, you had to build with bricks and not use all these specialized pieces. Seems like people complain either way...

I also am a bit curious about what's "shameful" about the Slave 1, which seems to have been a very popular and well received set. I thought it was reasonably priced, and I was particularly pleased that it came in minifigure scale.

The moc i referred to in my previous post was done with plates for the ball, and successfully (quite surprisingly) achieved a ball looking shape that was extremely easy on the eye. That design also kept with 'looking like lego'. There is no need to only revert to curved pieces.

No. Nothing to do with that. Absolutely nothing. I didn't even keep that MOC built.

I can not understand that this model made it as a final product offered to customers.

Hell. The tail is flexible, the side fairing elements are not attached correctly, the skirt is the wrong color, it is possible to see through the ship almost everywhere, 5 mm gap in the middle (with tends to 7 or 8 mm gap after the model is displayed for some time).

21.JPG41.JPG38.JPG

Moreover, seat not linked to the wings, poor arches.

25.JPG

With time, you will also notice that some liftarms on the support tend to bent because of the weight of the model.

And whereas the TIE has a well structured build that looks like Lego (you may not like this style, it is still well designed), 75060 is just a giant mess.

23.JPG

I am pretty sure Lego is aware of all this problems (they know what they are selling, they do). And I am pretty sure this is why the model has a price that can be considered as "cheap" for a UCS product. I mean, you really think they sell the set at 200€ (MSRP) because they want you to make a bargain ? Oo

200€, almost 400 different ref (which is A LOT ! it makes the model expensive to produce ; most UCS have between 220 and 280 ; 10221 has only 171 !), and 4 minifigs with a lot of printing. With the pricing policy we can see in other Star Wars products, a 240€/250€ MSRP would make much more sense for 75060. But TLG just can't sell this product at such a price.

I can understand people like the Slave 1. And I think I am among them. But this must not be missleading regarding the (poor) quality of the product. :)

I love my UCS Slave I, and yes, Anio's points are not groundless. But all sets have their flaws, and I can live with mine! I fixed the floppy side panels with some mods, but otherwise I love how majestic it looks on my desk.

Anyway, do we have a release date for the summer sets?
