Chookdude Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I just read on the Star Wars Facebook page that on September 4th at 12:01 am they will be revealing a lot of new merchandise for the force awakens and I saw a picture of the new kylo reb packaging Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 @Chookdude: The reveal will happen earlier for certain, September 4th is the day of release And here's a picture of said packaging: Looks great I have to say, can't wait to see the LEGO boxart Quote

Robianco Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I think those considering picking up the DS in the hopes they'll be selling it off for two or three times the price in a couple of years shouldn't do it as scalpers are bad. 'AFOLs' ripping off AFOLs? Not my thing. Well that should go without saying... but I know what you mean! Quote

GuyDudeMan27 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I fail to see how it's "ripping off" Look at it this way. You're buying something of a limited quantity just to sell it to someone who wants it for more than you payed. The buyer got ripped off since you took one set that could have been theirs, but then made them pay more for it. It's honestly a horrible practice. Quote
Peasantseverywhere Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Honestly I have to agree with that, I saw what I presumed to be an AFOL take 10 Hullbuster sets of the shelf the other day, he could have been using them for a MOC I guess but I still see it unfair as they store now had none left for my son Quote
Kingslayer Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Have some good news from LEGO. I really wasn't expecting a reply that fast. "Dear Sam, Thanks for getting in touch with us. We're glad you are interested in the amazing LEGO® 10188 - Death Star™! I can confirm that the limited availability only concerns the set at its current discounted price. Once the promotion is over, in case the set goes out of stock in the next few days, you can rest assured that it will become available again in no time as we do not have plans to discontinue this set quite yet!" Spyderlord Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) That is a horribly misleading post and I cannot fathom that a CSR would choose such a wording. I have heard from a wider variety of sources (in different European countries) that DS is retiring at the end of this year, so "not [...] quite yet" is in my book a VERY pretentious formulation, even by sales/marketing standards. Yeah I am assuming they cant tell you when sets will be retired for whatever reason. I would also assume that it is probably retiring at the end of the year, but that wasnt my worry. My worry was that the sale would be selling the last of their back stock, which now appears not to be the case as they are producing more. EDIT: What was misleading about it. Pretty much explains itself if you ask me. Edited May 3, 2015 by Kingslayer Quote

So either you give a neutral wording without revealing any info on retirement or you put "for the current year"and/or "while supplies last". Quote

Slurpifier Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 The new packaging is quite eyecatching. Very soon, every single shop I go into will have 'Star Wars The Force Awakens' plastered everywhere! Thats a good thing, might I add :) Quote

Darth Dino Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Hi @Kingslayer and Sypderlord: Thank you both for the info, although your info doesnt match :) @Resale-practice: Thats my way to finance my hobby, sets. If i purchase another copy of the DS i am not taking it from some kids innocent hands. I do it online, kids dont buy 400€ sets online... Where i am buying from there is always a huge stock of sets, although it says "limited". And yes, i am reselling it, mostly to AFOLs that started their hobby later than i did. I am not complaining not having the 10179 or the Green Grocer, i have other sets instead. St eBay you are mot ripping somebody, because its the somebody that is bidding the price on the set. Dino All Im saying is I was told by a LEGO employee that the set wouldnt be cancelled "just quite yet". Take that for what you will. While I do agree it's odd wording, he did straight up say they would be producing more after the sale, so I wouldn't worry about this being the last batch. I never asked anything about if the set would be cancelled for the end of the year or not. Quote
namioik Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Who cares if people invest in Lego? Lego themselves are in company to make money also. Everyone needs money to support their lifestyle. People got bills to pay, mouths to feed, etc etc. No need to justify the cause, Darth Dino. Some people just take business personally... Quote
rollermonkey Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Doesn anyone have any info about the summer wave or TFA wave? Cuz I'd sure love to have a place to talk about them. All this rehashing of set scalping arguments is BO-RING. It's an annoying practice, takes advantage of people, and those who do it will never be convinced that they are in the wrong, so trying is wasted effort. Edited May 3, 2015 by rollermonkey Quote

As investments go, it's great to make 300% in three years, but the problem is the scalability... If you can only buy a few thousand dollars worth, then your payoff is not that much. Also, if they announce that they are going to re-release a new version of the set, as they almost always do, they your whole "investment" is lost! Edited May 4, 2015 by The Real Indiana Jones Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I don't think that selling retired sets at high prices is "wrong". I've never been on the selling end, but I have bought my fair share of retired LEGO sets at ridiculous prices--but I don't mind, because I pay the amount that I value the product at. Personally, I'm thinking about doing that with some BIONICLE sets....I've stocked up on a few extras, and I hope that someone will buy them at higher prices in a few years. Really, there's nothing wrong with that. Quote
Artanis I Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I recently built all of the SW sets (besides Rebels, they are still waiting) that I bought since 9 months ago, and horror of all horrors the republic gunship microfighter uses this piece from Anakin's starfighter: instead of this piece from the jedi starfighter planet set: Quote
