IronFish Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Anybody have pics of that Imperial Assault Carrier? Mainly I just want to see those minifigs. Quote
Markalus Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 And FINALLY offici images of Tydirium http://www.eurotoys.dk/main/index.asp?site=76&vn=02-075094 There seems to be universal praise for the Shuttle Tydirium but the thing that bothers me is the two "wings" of the trifoil are made from plates (with many exposed studs) whereas they have used SNOT on the top trifoil using bricks, slopes and technic. To me this looks odd, especially when viewed from front on and you look at the edges. And seeing a whole lot of the underside of plates when in landing mode...meh. I know it's probably a price and/or weight-stability "swoosh-ability" consideration given the target age range but aesthetically it's no UCS imperial shuttle. Quote

Lobot Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I'm really impressed by the new Shuttle, but I can't see the Assault Carrier selling well. I guess I'm probably too old to appreciate it, but it just looks ugly and ridiculously over-priced I might be interested in it at a 50% discount as a parts-pack, but otherwise it's an easy pass for me. I agree; I don't see it selling very well either... I think the main problem with the Assault Carrier, (as well as other Rebels sets in general) is that the source material is just so... awful. Rebels doesn't really introduce enough interesting ship/vehicle designs to base sets off of, IMO. It's not entirely TLG's fault that the sets are so bland-looking or otherwise uninteresting. That said, we've still got plenty to look forward to this year. My guess is that the Force Awakens sets will be revealed somewhere around Comic-Con, which is July 9th-12th. Quote

Slurpifier Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I agree with you 'Lobot' and 'Nokturn', I can't see the Assault Carrier selling well at all. In fact, in my area, the Rebels Lego sets and even other Rebels merchandise are selling extremely poorly, which is a shame. I thought the Rebels show was pretty neat if I'm being quite honest. That Shuttle Tydirium; a must buy for me! Really like the scale of it! Quote
Tariq j Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 That Final Duel set is a definite buy. I'm kind of disappointed at the lack of interior for the Assault Carrier. Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I think the shuttle set is fantastic. Wonderful looking ship, and great minifigs. I hope I manage to buy it at some point. I just don't get it with the Assault Carrier though. That's a big price for a relatively unknown ship which lacks either the style or the iconic status of an ISD. Maybe the popularity of Rebels sets will be boosted by TFA but I'd have thought it's more likely that they'll be totally eclipsed by it. Quote

Wodanis Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) According to Star Wars.com I read this morning that all the new Star Wars Lego Sets (Episode 7) will drop on September 4th, 2015. "StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will land in our galaxy on September 4, 2015, at 12:01 a.m. — “Force Friday” — with stores around the world opening their doors at midnight for a special celebration of all things Star Wars. It will be a day long remembered. “Every lightsaber, every action figure, every LEGO set tells a story for generations of Star Wars fans, and this global event is a celebration of those stories. We’re excited to be part of the countdown to this enormous movie moment,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products." Clone 01354 Productions Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Tyderium and Final Duel are must buys. Everything else.....not worth it. The biggest summer letdown was the Imperial Assault Carrier: Sabine is the wrong color, other minifigs are nothing special, the ship is small.... Quote
TeamStucky Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) IMO the Assault Carrier would've been better if they included the TIE that Sabine spraypainted I quite enjoy Rebels but the only set I've liked so far is the Ghost. Incredibly excited for the Death Star Final Duel though Edited May 9, 2015 by TeamStucky Quote
IronFish Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I agree with the assault carrier being a little overpriced and bland, I'm probably just going to get Sabine's helmet, and Kallus's hair on BrickLink as soon as it comes out Quote

Maybe as the show gets better and gains traction it will pick up more sales. Edited May 9, 2015 by Kingslayer Quote

So what is your drfinition of "overpriced sets"? Perhaps it is just the feeling that the vehicle the set relys to just not feel like an xxx EUR set? Greetings. Hendrik Quote

Hendrik For other countries its comparative pricing EU vs USA vs CDN etc. Or if the model is less substantial compared to other sets. Take the AT-TP (75073) for example. I bought this set because I didn't have the older version. However once I built it, I was disappointed as the model is essentially technic with some plates over top of it. It is priced at $74.99. Basically one is paying the price for the figures. In my opinion it is an over priced set and doesn't not have a solid building experience whereas the B-Wing (75075) is similar in size and offers a better build experience at $60 for the same amount of mini-figures. The Assault Carrier is just not as iconic as say a Star Destroyer although they are both miniaturized. To make them mini-figure size would be quite costly. I wouldn't mind owning the Assault Carrier but it's $150 here and that is a bit much for a set that I wouldn't enjoy as much as say the Millennium Falcon. Edited May 9, 2015 by Wodanis Quote

Of course a good value for a set is very subjective, but under the circumstances of how a set is built, I don't see how that determines whether or not a set is a good value. Unless of course you mean stability. With the AT-DP, say it were instead just plates and bricks, with 0 technic. I would argue the stability would be much worse off. Point is, the AT-DP needed this technic frame to pull off a more accurate and stable model, while the B-Wing does not; making it an unfair comparison in my opinion. Now if you just prefer the brick system over technic, I completely understand. I can respect that. I wholeheartedly agree that the more iconic a model is, the more likely someone would pick it up. In the US at least, the Force Awakens MF will cost 20 more bones than the Assault Carrier. I myself know I will be going for the MF over the Assault Carrier, simply because I care more for MF. Funny how I say this when I own 2 Falcon's already! Quote

Hendrik What I meant was it didn't look like a very good value, because it doesn't look to have that many play features, the minifigures aren't anything new (aside from Kallus's hair and Sabine's helmet) we could of gotten a Fulcrum minifig or something, and it isn't very big for the amount of pieces it has. My point is, that for $130 US it doesn't have a lot going on. Quote
Flieger Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 As much as I love Rebels, the style they have chose for the show doesnt translate well for sets. Though none of the sets are god awful, some leave a fair bit to be desired. I think the lack of general knowing of the show doesnt help sales much. Maybe as the show gets better and gains traction it will pick up more sales. The Rebels line-up itself is pretty good imo. The AT-DP and TIE proto are excellent sets, well sized with perfect minifig selection. The Ghost and Phantom are ok, albeit not well sized. The Stormtrooper BP was perfect except for the blasters... The speeder bikes are well executed within the Lego-limits of oversized speeder bikes. Etc. There are only two sets I really dislike: the Wookie Gunship and the Assault Carrier. But I have to be fair and say the Gunship is a nice set; it is just that it was in the show for about a few seconds. And the Assault Carrier... I really think it deserves all the flak it gets. Beside that astromech droid the only good minifig is a Sabine variation with helmet – and we should have had that helmet before. Kallus's hair is not really much of an attraction to me, and two extremely plain pilots plus an officer are easily called bad. Had this set come with a different minifig selection, I would be more inclined to buy it. Imperial crewmen were seen on that ship, why not two of them? Also what about the Imperial courier droid colouring of chopper? Even the design itself is less than inspiring. Where is the ramp so prominently featured when seeing the Gozanti in the show (when Kallus disembarks or when Sabines jumps on it)? Why would I want to drop micro-TIEs? They are not bombs to drop. My biggest disappointment with Rebels is the sets we do not get. The later Season 1 and soon (June 20) Season 2 offer so many characters and vehicles left undone until at least Winter 2015/16. Lego literally just provided sets for the first two episodes, stretched those out over a year (included the delayed release of the Assault Carrier), and then ignored the show altogether. Just getting a costly, early Season 1 set with either unattractive minifigs or minifig variations we should have had already, at a time when Season 2 premieres... no, that is not cool. What I meant was it didn't look like a very good value, because it doesn't look to have that many play features, the minifigures aren't anything new (aside from Kallus's hair and Sabine's helmet) we could of gotten a Fulcrum minifig or something, and it isn't very big for the amount of pieces it has. My point is, that for $130 US it doesn't have a lot going on. Technically, Fulcrum's identity was a secret, even if an open secret. But there were plenty of other options: imperial crewmen, courier droids, a junior officer, perhaps even Valen Rudor with his distinctive red stripes (although he would have been better in the TIE set). eldiano Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 LEGO Star Wars Death Star Final Duel Review I love this set and it's the most I am expecting out of this year, it looks like everything in there can be swapped out with the current death star set, the throne, the stairs, the blue things, and love the new vader figure!!! The Rebels line-up itself is pretty good imo. The AT-DP and TIE proto are excellent sets, well sized with perfect minifig selection. The Ghost and Phantom are ok, albeit not well sized. I talked to a lego assistant manager and he coyly told me he "heard" that rumor also. Quote
