deskp Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 THE HEAD IS NEW. Its not a plunger, it's not a bowl/pot piece. Quote
Venkefedo Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 No you guys, the head is NEW. THE HEAD IS NEW. Its not a plunger, it's not a bowl/pot piece. Yes. Yes! To deskp, you listen! Quote
Fire spray 31 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Correct if you look at the bowl/plunger it has a distinct rim at the bottom. This BB-8 head has sort of a small slanted lip the bottom. I imagine that the body will also be brand new pieces and not the globe pieces because they aren't that strong to be played with. I imagine they went all out for this one. I am hoping for a magnetic connection. Quote
BrickJagger Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Well, it'll be interesting to see how they make BB-8 roll...... Quote
Darth Carlos Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Thanks amazingbricks for the picture of BB8. That little droid looks cool. The parts look new too, wonder if it rolls like in the trailer. Quote
aaroncb Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 yodas hut in TFA would blow my mind. hopefully we get some TFA battle packs down the road Quote
TheWolffe Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Kinda glad it won't roll, imagine trying to get the figure to stay still on a flat surface. Nightmare fuel! He looks cute though, looking forward to the actual figure now. Quote
DarkKnight7 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 (edited) I didn't see anybody post this yet on here (hopefully I'm not wrong), but in the USA Today article below, it says there will be a build able First Order storm trooper (kind of like the Bilbo fig a few years back) to promote SWFA at SDCC. Can't wait for pics of that to surface! Here's the article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2015/06/19/lego-captain-america-comic-con-figure-exclusive/28970089/ Edited June 20, 2015 by DarkKnight7 Quote
CM4Sci Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 They're referring to the Constraction TFA Stormtrooper revealed about a week ago. Quote
hachiroku Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I know it is a little obvious, but the pieces behind BB-8 are from Rey's speeder. Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 My brother thought it might be part 6058218, the bowl peice used in the simpsons house, and after close comparison I think he may be right. I have no idea how it would attach to the other peices though... Thoughts? Quote

It is not that bowl piece - the figure would be huge if they used 2x2 bowl for the head. It is a new piece. EDIT: I think that the piece you mention could actually be used for the lower half of the droid body. And 553 for the upper half. Edited June 20, 2015 by Vodnik Quote
General Magma Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 How can we know for sure that it won't roll? Surely we've seen magnets paired with LEGO before, or maybe they'll find a way to make the head rotatable over one side, so yeah. I can't think of what the piece was again (that refers to the last solution), but it was some kind of joint you could slide back and forth. I know it's very unlikely, but don't say never unless you know for certain. Quote
Slurpifier Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 The image isn't working now ;( Can someone do me a favour that has the photo of BB-8 saved and please send it to me? Many thanks! Quote
hachiroku Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 (edited) It can rotate with this: Here is an schematic: The red thing is this http://brickset.com/parts/6116604 The blue thing is a weight. And the brick joining the head with the body is one of this http://brickset.com/parts/4143005 The head is this: http://brickset.com/parts/6050914 When the ball spins in the vertical axis with a certain angle repect that axis, it should move forward. It's just from a page in the new July - December catalogue. There is a snap of it available on Hoth Bricks, or you can download the LEGO 3D Catalogue app and see the page for yourself in your country's catalogue. Edited June 20, 2015 by bungeshea Quote

EDIT: I think that the piece you mention could actually be used for the lower half of the droid body. And 553 for the upper half. Apologies, I thought the posts above were referring to only the plumber peice, which can also be seen as a bowl, as they did not mention the peice i brought up specifically, but I know realise they were discussing both peices. As for its size, it seemed smaller than a normal astromech head when I saw the picture of the peice on Brickset. I will read above posts more thoroughly before contributing in future. Going back to the BB8 figure, I like the level of detail it has on its head and look forward to seeing the full body. It's really nice that lego seem to be diversifying with their astromech figures, such as chopper, the droid with the transparent head and now BB8. It's exciting to think that in the pile of bricks for the speeder there might be a Rey and even another TFA minifigure in there! I really hope we see more pictures soon. It can rotate with this: Here is an schematic: The head is this: http://brickset.com/parts/6050914 When the ball spins in the vertical axis with a certain angle repect that axis, it should move forward. That's what i thought the head was as well. That's a great idea and I love how much detail you went into. The diagram helps as well Edited June 20, 2015 by Dragonlego27 Quote
Backgild Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Does anyone have a good estimate of the diameter, in studs, that the droid socket in the xwing is going to have to be to hold bb-8? Quote
AnthonyP301 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Does anyone have a good estimate of the diameter, in studs, that the droid socket in the xwing is going to have to be to hold bb-8? Judging by the stud on the figure's dome, she or he will probably be 2x2 studs. I'm hoping there will be something in the X-Wing to hold her down so she or he won't fall out of the set all the time. From some of the pictures we've seen, BB-8's body looks about as wide as an older astromech droid. Quote
Mr Meleca Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 They will use magnets on the pieces The head is new and the diameter is 2x2 It will be quite small, like the real one compared to r2d2 Quote
CM4Sci Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Taking a second look, deskp is right saying the head is new. That's a stud, not.. the bottom. Quote
deskp Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 people keep throwing out words like 'magnets'. there is no need for anythign special with the bb8 fig, its just lego, it's most improtant function will be the ability to connect to a stud. Quote
Fire spray 31 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 As cool as that little diagram is-it won't work. First off that absolutely %100 is not that plumber/bowl piece. It is a new piece. Secondly, I don't think lego will use those globe halfs to make a mini figure. You have to remember Lego is firstly concerned with playability. That little globe will not be playable. It will fall apart too easily. I think lego will have made a completely new mould for this whole little guy. TFA is going to be a bread winner. Why start things off wrong and use old existing pieces that don't look quite right. Quote
