Darth Punk Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 But this isn't just a case of Eurobricks bowing down to TLG's wishes and every other Lego forum continuing to show set images etc... everyone has dropped it. If there's somewhere else for people to go then yes... EB does run the risk of people leaving to head to that forum but there isn't as far as I'm aware. Time will tell but I can't see TLG stopping the discussion of leaks across the board. We already don't allow confidential stamped images but when official stuff comes out of other leak photos are sourced then they're normally fair game but for this there has been some kind of embargo placed and TLG have asked. Reading the wording of their statement they are totally aware of how seemingly futile this may be especially as it's already out but they're asking nonetheless. Next time we have some DC or Marvel stuff that leaks we'll see whether they ask the same... I think that'll be a good example as it's a single theme but half is owned by Disney and the other half isn't. And I'm still not convinced by the need for people to see everything before they'll spend a penny. TFA stuff will fly off the shelves from September 4th until the distant future... that much I'm pretty sure of. Of course they want money... and they know they're going to get it... from ticket sales to DVD sales to toy sales to book sales to poster sales to pyjama sales whichever type of product you can think of sales. Stick that logo on it and it'll sell. Kids aren't sitting on forums now analysing which stuff they're going to want. They'll walk into a toy store, or be happily taken by their parents, and the merchandising juggernaut will begin... regardless of how much AFOLs want full disclosure of sets a month or two in advance... it isn't going to make a blind bit of difference. We've seen the sets. We know how much they are. We know when they're coming out. Let's not get carried away with things. Find a Flickr user that has them listed and talk about them in the comments section of that image if you feel the need. We can't change it. Hey... if it all goes belly up and TLG continue to block leaks of everything then people will have to hope another forum that doesn't give a toss about Lego's wishes or it's relationship with Lego, pops up to cater for them. Looking at the request from Lego they specifically ask for set names, set numbers and set pricing to not be discussed... as well as the display of images. I don't think that covers discussion about specific things we've seen... it's not like we can just ignore any of it happened. At least I think that's what covered... any help on this mods? Is this something that can be discussed? The nature of business is such when you do something and it's successful you tend to do it again. Especially if no one objects to your actions. TLG is already a very secretive company in terms of leaks. Complete embargos could easily become norm if they decide to deem it to be economically beneficial. That's why you can't just to see if it will happen again. An open discussion needs to occur not just with the members and Eurobricks. But also between Eurobricks and TLG. Those who bury their heads in the sand are the first to get kicked in the butt. Then read their requests again. They never asked for that. Dear LUG Ambassadors Given the sensibility of the LEGO related products connected to the upcoming Star Wars movie it has been decided to treat all images and information as highly confidential and therefore business critical. This means that we would like you to help us contain leaking of these informations until the embargo date of Septemer 4th. Until then we need you to refrain from hosting images and information such as set number, set names and set pricing. I know the frustrations and concerns this will probably raise in the AFOL community and we would not ask if it wasn't of highest importance. It clearly states all images and information. This is not just my opinion but was stated as such by Huw over at Brickset who said no discussion was to be allowed concerning the sets in any fashion. Quote
Vodnik Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) .It clearly states all images and information. It also clearly states "information such as set number, set names and set pricing". I believe it means the contents of the sets can be discussed as long as it is not shown in pictures or called by set names. Edited August 20, 2015 by Vodnik Quote

I believe it means the contents of the sets can be discussed as long as it is not shown in pictures or called by set names. Yes, such as, meaning for example but not limited to said information. It wouldn't make sense to say you can't mention the title but could freely discuss the content. Seeing as the content is what they are trying to not have discussed. Quote
Vodnik Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Seeing as the content is what they are trying to not have discussed. Okay, so you want to see TLG as new internet nazis and I see them as reasonable people who are trying to do some belated limited damage control on request from their powerful business partner. Anyway, I have no problem with it either way and fully understand the TLG request. Edited August 20, 2015 by Vodnik Quote

Anyway, I have no problem with it either way and fully understand the TLG request. Not what I said at all. My concern has to do with eurobricks. I find your use of the term Nazis disingenuous as if it will somehow validate your viewpoint. I completely understand why TLG is doing what it is doing. But I don't think it is beneficial to this community if it becomes a reoccurring theme as I have stated previously. Quote
Nekchir Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Damage control? It's Star Wars, man. It's gonna sell like hotcakes. Quote
Lunchietey Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) So surprising Disney would act like this... I also vote for the 'It's too late, everyone already knows" team. It's like trying to stop a flood with just one sandbag... Disney will be pressing TLG HARD and I'm SURE TLG do NOT want to damage such a lucrative relationship. I'm also pretty confident the apparent price rise has more to do with Disney's royalties than TLG. Edited August 21, 2015 by Lunchietey Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 But this isn't just a case of Eurobricks bowing down to TLG's wishes and every other Lego forum continuing to show set images etc... everyone has dropped it. If there's somewhere else for people to go then yes... EB does run the risk of people leaving to head to that forum but there isn't as far as I'm aware. I agree that, like all things leaked to the Internet, this will never be completely contained and people will always find another site to share and discuss the leaks. That doesn't make it okay for us to ignore TLG's requests. (I'm trying to word that sentence in a way that doesn't make me sound like I'm lecturing a child -- please don't interpret it that way!)Speaking as an AFOL and not as a member of the EB staff, if other members decide to leave and go to another site because they're unhappy that we're respecting the request for help from the company which we're enormous fans of and which has done so much for its adult fanbase in the past several years, then fine; I'm not exactly concerned if those members go elsewhere. Time will tell but I can't see TLG stopping the discussion of leaks across the board. We already don't allow confidential stamped images but when official stuff comes out of other leak photos are sourced then they're normally fair game but for this there has been some kind of embargo placed and TLG have asked. Next time we have some DC or Marvel stuff that leaks we'll see whether they ask the same... I think that'll be a good example as it's a single theme but half is owned by Disney and the other half isn't. I understand that it's frustrating to have this discussion cracked down upon, especially since we've enjoyed plenty of leaked set lists and the like in the past with comparatively little intervention by TLG, but we're not entitled to any early information. To me, it doesn't sound like other discussion is prohibited, but if you're unsure, I'd err on the side of caution. If TLG asks us to stop discussion of the minifigs, then we will. (Not that we'd penalize you for discussing something in a grey area like that.) Quote
Mahtion Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Kylo ren certainly looks better when viewing higher quality images. He went from the worst minifig of the wave to top 3 easily just behind the Stormtrooper/Phasma and Rey. Can't wait for these sets officially on Force Friday! Thanks TLG for making these amazing sets and we understand the harsh pressures from a mega corporation like Disney, no hard feelings I'm sure. Besides we can discuss everything in just about two weeks. Also thanks BrickDoctor for clarifying that we can discuss grey areas, much appreciated. Quote

BrickJagger Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Not sure if you guys have seen this We have, but I'd delete that. Disney said no pics.... so it is what it is. Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Well my mistake there, I haven't been following the star wars page lately. Are Disney making sure nothing gets leaked? Quote

Sir von Lego Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) So that has now nothing to do with "Freedom of opinion". DarthHank Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 So that has now nothing to do with "Freedom of opinion". We aren't chinese, russian or of these countries where you cannot say what you want.. I live in Germany and what will happen if I now say: The new {REDACTED!} really Looks cool. But XX.XX EUR seems a little bit too much... This isn't Germany; this is the internet. It's not illegal to discuss the sets; it'll just get you banned from the site. You misunderstand the concept of free speech. You can say whatever you want without government intervention; but people and businesses like eurobricks are welcome to stop you. What I'm curious about is the embargo on set numbers. How can they be harmful? "Hey Bob, doesn't 73343 look fantastic?" *LEGO swoops in* Quote
Phoib Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I am also a bit amazed about the ban on set names. How will that play out? "Oooh, the new edition of that spaceship-that-looks-like-a-hamburger-with-an-olive-stuck-to-the-side looks cool, but shame about the dish!" Meh? Quote
