Again, I'll ask: What exactly are they trying to accomplish by "supressing" these leaks?

From a consumer standpoint, this is really terrible marketing and PR.

I do realize that AFOLs are not the target market here, but that's exactly why they need to ramp up the marketing.

Where are the TV commercials? The ads in catalogs? These sets are being released in two weeks, and I bet the

large majority of LEGO's target market isn't even aware that they exist... Insane.

They should've just revealed these sets at SDCC, even D23 moreso.

I was even expecting them at Celebration a few months ago...

Regardless, I suppose it doesn't matter, because almost everyone here has seen them. That's all I wanted.

I'm glad I can finally plan what I'm going to be purchasing on the 4th at midnight. I wasn't going to go if pictures weren't leaked.

You really had to play the "Look at me, I don't follow guidelines or rules - I'm so cool!" card didn't you?

I just wanted to point out, how ridiculous this is...

I edited 5min later..

Greetings. Hendrik

Once again, I'm glad I have the pictures stored on my laptop. I knew they'd get purged soon enough. It's fun trying to reverse-engineer these sets from what little we've seen.

Slightly off topic, but I've already re-created 4 of the sets (as accurate as possible.) in LDD!

I doubt I'm allowed to post them here, due to the recent enforcement of the embargo.

Probably one of those grey areas, but I'm not going to risk it.

Meanwhile, Hasbro products are already on shelves, with vehicules we haven't seen before in any Ep7 trailer...

Hasbo have the same problems as lego. Nothing is meant to be in stores yet.

You would think there would have even been some "Coming soon! Get ready for September the 4th!" Etc doing the rounds.

Yes I live in Australia but there has been absolutely NOTHING at all ANYWHERE. ..? Not even TRU Australia mentions anything.

Disney Fail. No hype, no teasers no nothing. Just the odd preview at the movies if you still actually GO to the movies...

I would bet the average person, even a lot of star wars fans are almost completely unaware this is even coming.

That there is a wow-factor when the customers hits the stores. It's not only Lego on Eurobricks, it's ALL merchandise all over the internet & IRL. Here's what they (Disney) want:

Did I hear somebody saying trailers? I for one don't have to see the whole movie before I go and see the whole movie. I could even go into a store without knowing how everything inside looks, and still consider the possibility that I'll end up buying something.

So come on now people. Yes, it's a crappy situation. Yes, the cat is out of the box. Yes, anyone could still find out what they want by looking around the net. Play ball and continue to discussion but without those things we've been asked to not show!

Hasbro catalog containing images of ep 7 toys has been officially released , so why can't Lego do the same?

Except not officialy, hasbro is asking people to take down those images.

Meh, I don't actually mind about the ban.

It's likely the speculation about the sets would have grown stale: it was already getting to the point where we were examining minuscule areas between a helmet and a minifigures shoulders to see what type of head they had.

I'm not trying to insult anyone's efforts, but I for one am happy to leave some things as a surprise for one I go to the shops, see the sets in person, buy them and build them, finding all the play features I had no idea existed.

Actually leaving some things as a mystery actually increases my hype for the sets, so I can see where Disney and TLG are coming from.

I agree that, like all things leaked to the Internet, this will never be completely contained and people will always find another site to share and discuss the leaks. That doesn't make it okay for us to ignore TLG's requests. (I'm trying to word that sentence in a way that doesn't make me sound like I'm lecturing a child -- please don't interpret it that way!)

Speaking as an AFOL and not as a member of the EB staff, if other members decide to leave and go to another site because they're unhappy that we're respecting the request for help from the company which we're enormous fans of and which has done so much for its adult fanbase in the past several years, then fine; I'm not exactly concerned if those members go elsewhere.

I understand that it's frustrating to have this discussion cracked down upon, especially since we've enjoyed plenty of leaked set lists and the like in the past with comparatively little intervention by TLG, but we're not entitled to any early information.

To me, it doesn't sound like other discussion is prohibited, but if you're unsure, I'd err on the side of caution. If TLG asks us to stop discussion of the minifigs, then we will. (Not that we'd penalize you for discussing something in a grey area like that.)

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually on the side of just doing the simple task of following TLG's wishes on this and not worrying about it... I hope that came across in my post.

To be honest I'm not sure why the huge uproar from some regarding being asked to take things down. The discussion of leaks and even getting to see things early is nice... but not integral to my interest in both Lego or Star Wars.

The forum is more than just a place to 'see things early' but these threads tend to generate more heat than most places simply down to their subject matter.

It's all about relationships... the one EB members have with the site and it's moderators, the one the site has with Lego and the one that Lego has with it's partners. I'm sure Lego are having to bend a little to their partners such as Disney as the leak of images and actual early production figures from factories was one thing but to now have most of the official images leaked early may also be a source of embarrassment, hence the request to help control things a little... with that the site and it's members are asked to bend a little to help smooth things over until Force Friday.

I think everybody can calm down, this will only be for TFA, because it is JJ's "mystery box". For "Rogue One" they already released a crew-pic in full costume. this embargo thing is - IMHO - ONLY for TFA and that's it. As far as I remember, when JJ did Star Trek he even had the veto-right on making (!) certain toys before the release of the picture. They've not gone that far with a GFFA.

It's just like DIS to try and put the chicken back in the egg.

They've tried it before with things in my other hobby, amusement parks, but it never worked. They used to try to say things like "nothing's going on at Animal Kingdom", meanwhile everyone could see the gigantic mountain being built for everest, coaster track and all. They are less stupid about stuff like that now, admitting that there's construction, but not normally discussing details. I guess the control freaks over there found a new target, and AFOLs are it, because nobody seems to be taking down anything for Hasbro toys. :sceptic::thumbdown:

Besides, major GP sites like Gizmodo and Yahoo have posted the pics at this point. There's really no rational explanation for trying to hide the sets now.

Exactly. Plus, if they really wanted to prevent leaks, they should've done an official reveal a long time ago.

I genuinely don't see how images of a product that's being released in 2 weeks is a bad thing.

These sets (and other toys from other companies) are expensive. Individuals and families alike need time to plan & save up money.

How can they do that if they don't even know what the products look like?

It's inherently anti-consumer to hide your product this close to release, IMO.

This is similar to video game companies having review embargos until after the release date of the game itself.

It creates a distrust between the consumer and the business, which is always a bad thing.

JUST TO CLARIFY, I support Eurobricks in its' endeavour to comply with Disney and TLG's wishes.

But you better believe I've been spreading these images as much as I can on other sites.

People have release dates and know when waves are coming out... they know there's going to be lots of things they may or may not want so either budget for wanting stuff or don't. I still don't see why anybody needs full disclosure to create a spreadsheet of exactly what they want, how much it will be and how many cars they need to wash to be able to afford them. We all budget for things in our lives... mortgages, bills, car insurance etc... toys are just another thing... so budget for them.

I really don't think there's any distrust between a toy maker and it's audience for not releasing official images of it's product range months in advance... be that Lego, Hasbro or whoever. They'll be out when they're out. People will either want them or not. I suspect they'll sell a lot of them without any feeling of distrust for not seeing them in a catalogue two months earlier.

I'm sure you've been posting images left right and centre but the importance, and relevance, of doing that is entirely up to you. There are no medals for most circulation of those images. If they're on Lego forums with any relationship with Lego then they'll probably get removed and if they're not then they won't and it won't matter. There's plenty of people on Flickr who have posted the images and will continue to display them. They're out there... they're just not here.

Im trying to recall if AMG, BMW or Porsche ever embargo'd Nurburgring spy pics of their new models on all the car forums...lemme think...oh wait, they didn't. In fact, AMG played and lead the sneakpeek/spypic game with the C63 coupe...

Just sayin...

Me: I know! I will express my frustration at this ridiculous situation by voting with my wallet and passing on the TFA Lego sets.

TLG: You and I both know that is not going to happen.

They are Disney in the end now with TFA.

Everything is calculated to acheive the maximum hype possible. Even if the methods are seemingly non-traditional.

The movie is what they want to hype, the toys are the seeds of the hype.

Have the toys come out a few short months before the movie means that all the kids will be asking for a new one each month. And that when the movie comes out, the parents will simply say "yes" to go watch it.

Of course this is about freedom (even if it's just LEGO). I get the thing with the premlim & pictures of stolen goods. I don't like that the internet "bends it's knees" to companys, but I can live with that.

Forbidding us to talk about the names, set numbers etc. - it's freakin ridicolous. It's like closing this thread until it's unimportant. What's next? "Hey EB can't you just erase some thread's? Disney doesn't like them". If you wanna delte my account - fine. If everybody'd just ignore these rules You'd have to ban them all.

Maybe they already reched their goal because now we're not talking anymore about the actual topic.

So: I like Kylo Ren's command shuttle much more than when I saw the leaked picture. However the FO Navy troopers are looking far worse - compared to their imperial ancestor. Plus Kylo Ren's design is just to inaccurate. Even if movie & character will be great - there are just sooo many flaws:

- clothes should be brown - the plain black makes it look like another character

- armprinting would have been cool

- Vader's new mask is too big. But his mask was also too big in the movies. With the new villan on the other hand it's just way over the tolerance limit.

- the wrong colour of his mask is the worst thing

- lightsaber

- I just hope he looks better with the hood on. At least the front face is definitively the mask printed on a minifig head.

- which could lead to the problem that he will be one of the smallest figures

No shame to TLG - I guess they had to work with old concepts again.

The internet isn't bending it's knee to a company. The internet still has all the images available to view and places to talk about it.

As a forum with a relationship to maintain with Lego, as with all other forums and sites with a relationship with Lego, this small portal on the internet is being asked something quite simple.

As has already been pointed out... Nobody has a divine right to leaks or prelims but we're normally one of the first to find out about stuff which is great... just that on this occasion we're being asked to refrain.

It's really not that hard a concept. To be honest I don't get where the strength of feeling is coming from on this.

Exactly this.

People are so used to leaks, they feel they deserve them.

What if...

A company just wanted to do its best to let hype occur when they release them at a time of their choosing?

What does it matter not being able to talk about them for... Get this... TWO MORE WEEKS!!!

Who is so damned bloody impatient they cant wait 2 weeks and feel they must talk now about it?!

No, it doesnt really make sense when they have leaked... But that is their choice.

Im looking forward to getting multiples of one set for sure, for my first time getting multiples of a set other than battle packs... But its cool, they arent going anywhere before they get released.

Seriously. Its 2 bloody weeks. Keep your knickers on.

Agreed. Pictures are a privelige not a right. We've been given early pictures and TLG have asked us to not discuss them until the 4th, seems fair to me.
