AnthonyP301 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Why do some people hate the Rebels Stormtrooper so much? The 2014 stormie minifigures are pretty much the same and the only big difference I found while comparing images from Rebels and Star Wars (ANH) is that the mouth is more angled. I think it's weird of LEGO to have 2 versions of the same thing released at the same time, but it probably matters more to others than it does to me. All I really care about is a battle pack with 4 Stormtoopers and an Imperial Troop Transport!(even if it is a very scaled down version) Quote

It shows me that it's a rebels minifig and not OT. Also it's new and fresh so I don't get bored with the old helmets. That's my opinion. I don't say things are like that but I see them like that. Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) ^Agreed. Also, Lego would never release such an iconic setting like Cloud City under the Rebels line. It makes 0 sense, because the Carbon Freezing chamber and Bespin Duel are only iconic with the OT characters. HOWEVER: I would like it if they released several other, less-important locations from Cloud City, like generic hallways, or walkways, or a landing platform. (Maybe like in Battlefront I). That way, you can get iconic locations under the OT line, as well as background locations for the Rebels line. Edited September 10, 2014 by LN-01354 Quote

Darth Malgus Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 It is a bit that way, half glass empty approach. Personally i had bigger issues with things like Rako Hardeen not having a helmet that was in another set that could've been used. Stormies are pretty much that and i get there is a variation between the Rebels version and OT sets, personally it doesn't bother me too much. It still looks like a stormie, and as this is a kids product first, I can see Lego not being to bothered by disenfranchised adults who make up a percentage of sales but not enough to affect the overal viability of the line. Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 ^^I am a Star Wars fan. But I don't get over carried-away with tiny little details; I don't read the EU that tries to cover up the movie flaws: I just accept the flaws. But the new Rebels Stormies are bad. The clones in TCW only had very minor changes, but for the most part they looked close to the movie versions--and the same goes for the Lego minifigs. But these Stormies look odd next to my older ones: the blue is too bright, the mouth is steep (but that is excusable), the armor is too angular.....it just doesn't look right. I get the whole "Star Wars fans are never happy with anything", but most of that only applies to the die-hard fans who know what Luke's favorite color is. Fans like me, though, are bothered by the things that really contribute to the overall feels of the characters and movies. Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 It certainly doesn't help the impression about SW fans that people who comment are more often more likely complaining than complimentary. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Well, agreeing with everyone and just stating shallow observations doesn't allow for discussion; these threads are for us not to say "I like this....."; they are for us to voice our true opinions that can be arguable among the population. People saying a bad thing about one thing leads to a big discussion. If everyone was perfectly content with what was going on, there would be nothing to discuss. (I'm not helping my case, are I? ) But you get my point. You want some positive comments? Here: I am very pleased that they will be releasing Tuskens next year, and I love Shadow Troopers. Now, everyone can say, "Yeah, me too" and then this topic is dead. To kickstart the "complaining" (wink) again, will the new Hailfire Droid be AOTC or TCW? I am really hoping for the former, since we can get some sweet Jedi thrown in. However, this will most likely be TCW, because this is likely just a companion to the Geonosis Troopers BP. Something_Awesome Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Because too many SW fans care WAY too much about these tiny details. See also my mini-rant the other day about SW fans generally never being happy with anything. Ever. Your blanket statement is not applicable to stormtroopers discussion. Many people don't need all their stormtroopers to be uniform. I am OK with some having leg printing where others don't. In this case though, the mouth looking the way it does is too over-the-top to be able to incorporate with any OT-based displays. Aside from the incompatibility (which is tragic considering the Rebels line is not even fleshed out enough to support a Rebels battlepack), the Rebels stormtroopers themselves have mouth designs that are even more exaggerated than the mouth designs in the cartoon. Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Yeah, it's not picking on every little detail; it is an obvious eye sore when compared to normal Stormies. I don't mean they look bad; they can pass very well as prototype armor. I just mean that, when compared to the OT Stormies, they are mediocre. Quote
Tariq j Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 SW fans generally never being happy with anything. Ever. I wouldn't say that. I admit, my post on the other topic about the advent calender was over the top and over critical. However, some SW fans care about accuracy, while others like minifigures while others like playability features. The point is, everyone will always have different opinions on sets. And that's the point of all these rumour and disscusion threads. As pointed out above if everyone just said "Yeah, I Like that" or something similar the discussian would be over. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Discussion and personal preference is fine, perhaps people try to impress their opinions upon others, i read most of the posts here i just get a little over bashing sets we are yet to see... i have the same issue in the LOTR thread also. I like the speculation it keeps the intrigue until we actually get images. Personally for me i think Lego do a could job majority of the time catrring for kids, teens and AFOLS in the Star Wars theme. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 We're all passionate fans of a building toy and a sci-fi franchise with a deep expanded storyline and universe (even if it's not canon...) with extensive online access to studio models. Add the fact that we're adults discussing toys targeted towards children, and the nitpicking is inevitable. You don't have to agree with the nitpicking; just make sure to keep it civil, guys. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Okay, I went on Wookieepedia (which was a horrible experience.....) and found clues for "Anakin's Custom Starfighter": the yellow one is from both the Tartakovski microseries, as well as the Clone Wars CGI; I did not know that this ship was considered to be "Custom". This has only been released once, although it was a very popular ship of Anakin's, so I think that we may just get this one. It may be UCS, or maybe just a rehash as a small set, but no matter what, I am convinced that Lego will give us this version. The Azure Angel makes no sense as a set choice, since it has been de-canonized. We do usually get a Jedi Interceptor every year, so........ Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Just because something was previously introduced in a now non-canon publication doesn't mean that it can't be 're-canonized' by Rebels. (or Episode VII) I wouldn't hold my breath expecting an older design to appear in Rebels, considering how much TCW's producers seemed to like adding new ships that aren't entirely necessary, but it's worth noting that it's not completely outside the realm of plausibility. Lind Whisperer Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The thing that I really take ire with, is the way they just chopped away the entire franchise. That's not "cleaning it up," that's "throwing out the crown because you don't like the gems mounted in it". Now, if they had been more reasonable, and at least left KotOR, tOR:tSL, and SW:tOR in canon, I wouldn't be having as big an issue with it. Quote

irispen Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Im an OT collector, I hate those rebel version of stormtroopers but i love to have some of those pilots in lego form! http://starwarsrebels.wikia.com/wiki/AT-DP_Pilots Edited September 10, 2014 by irispen Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 As an AFOL who really likes the OT and am finally getting around to collecting some of the SW sets, the thing I find frustrating about the Rebels stormtrooper is this: I would like to have a few more stormies to augment the two I have from the new ISD. Those really look good. Currently, there are no battlepacks or cheap sets with so much as one OT stormtrooper. Slave 1 is coming out and it will provide another OT stormie, but it is a $200+ set. I get that Lego wants to capitalize on the Rebels cartoon and that they would design the Rebels stormtrooper. I am not really OCD, but the difference between OT and the Rebels design is highly visible. I have had a retinal detachment surgery in my right eye, cataract surgeries in each eye, and I have lots of floaters, yet the difference is obvious to me. They just are not compatible. Along comes the news that there is going to be a set (ITT) that will have four stormtroopers. I was excited until I found out it was going to be a rebels set. One could fairly assume the stormie will look like that frowntrooper in the Phantom set. Similar to Darth Vader, it almost seems like Lego is deliberately making it hard to get OT stormies. I doubt that Lego would release another battle pack with OT stormies when they have something they consider to be similar enough coming out. That is probably why many of us (and I realize I do not speak for everyone) are frustrated at ITT being a rebels set. To get the nice new OT stormie, my two choices are ISD at $130, Slave I at $200+, or get them individually on Bricklink at an expensive price. Quote
Robert_88 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I don't like the Rebels Stormtroopers because they simply don't look good. I wouldn't like them if they were the new OT version. Quote

I view it more as they sent the crown to the jeweler because not all the gems went together. Nothing was ever said that any of the now non canon stories would never become canon in the future. This gives them the option to pick and choose the best gems and not just have to accept them all as priceless. Quote
Chills Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I don't see why anyone would care what Disney says about what is canon and what isn't. So what?? If you like the books, the video games, the comics, etc, they enjoy them, and set aside Disney's official stance on what is real SW lore and what isn't. It's all make-believe anyway, so why get so serious about it? Just continue to find joy where did before.. I love the books by Zahn, so I don't care what Disney says about them. I'll still re-read them and get as much enjoyment from the stories as I did before Disney's announcement. Quote
GallardoLU Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I don't see why anyone would care what Disney says about what is canon and what isn't. I only have 2 issues with Disney throwing out the EU. First is it leaves the door open for them to change everything we know about some popular characters and potentially ruin them. with new stories coming out all without regard to existing stories, I fear characters like Boba Fett will get the Vader treatment and have back stories that are all wrong with who they have been for the past 20-30 years. And the Second issue (and the far lesser one) is that "Legends" stories and characters will be far less likely to make it onto/into merchandise. As to the enjoyment of pre-existing EU books/games/comics I agree, there is nothing at all stopping me enjoying them, I’ve still got several books I’ve not even had time to read, but the Legends tag won’t stop me doing just that. Flieger Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 To kickstart the "complaining" (wink) again, will the new Hailfire Droid be AOTC or TCW? I am really hoping for the former, since we can get some sweet Jedi thrown in. However, this will most likely be TCW, because this is likely just a companion to the Geonosis Troopers BP. The whole issue is a bit tricky, because there was no TCW Hailfire Droid, but Hulk_Smash's info about the camouflaged troopers in the Geonosis pack could indicate that it is a TCW set. On the other hand, he said their mould is that of the Kashyyyk trooper, not that of the ARF trooper in TCW. Anyway, Lego could just have decided to do their own camouflaged troopers (i.e. non-canon). They did that before in the Kashyyyk BP, two of the four troopers there are not canon. Perhaps camouflaged clones just sell well... In short, I am pretty sure the Hailfire Droid will be a movie based set. But rather than new Jedi, I prefer non-Droid Seperatists. There are so many missing, and a Seperatist set is exactly what could give us a Wat Tambor or a San Hill or even a Shu Mai minifig. (Or any other Gossam, Muun etc.). considering how much TCW's producers seemed to like adding new ships that aren't entirely necessary CGI and the need to sell toys have that effect... And to be fair, it started with the prequels already, especially RotS. There were lots of blink-and-you-miss-them vehicles, background vehicles etc. Last week I showed a friend, who likes Star Wars, the Droid Gunship, and she was like: "was that in the movie?". And the Droid Gunship had a lot screentime from my point of view. Quote
