Samiens Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I really liked Ashoka, she was possibly my favourite thing about the Clone Wars- heroic without being goody-two shoes and a cynic without being dark and brooding, plus her relationship with Anakin added interesting subtext. I guess each to their own. It is too early to judge rebels, its got a really ANH vibe to me, so I'm a bit worried it'll lack depth but I'm expecting it to be fun nonetheless. More on topic, so far I've really liked the rebels sets- they've got that junker star wars feel to them, plus love the figs. I'm expecting to get all of them next wave (in fact, as the T16 is the only thing I don't want this'll be an expensive wave)! Don't mind the stormie design- I'd just like some consistency so I end up with a sizeable group (I'm lacking storm troopers having only come back to star wars Lego this year). ps really hope Ashoka turns up in Rebels... and preferably a future set. Quote
Gremer Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I'd be surprised if there were no TCW references. I'm guessing Hera is Cham Syndulla's daughter, so there might be a few already. Quote
hjmediastudios Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 So I was looking at the first post and I noticed that Agent Kallus is nowhere to be found in the lists of included minifigures. Surely he'll be included in the AT-DP... That would be a huge missed opportunity. He is, alongside a stormtrooper and two AT-DP pilots. The prelim figure is pretty clearly intended to be him, and his name can be made out on the box as well. Quote
Darth Punk Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 And I know Disney is trying, and that this is primarily a kids show, but Disney KNOWS that there is a 15+ population out there that loves Rebels is about engaging a demographic that has never seen a Star Wars movie in theaters and not about placating those who have. They are enlarging their base to make new fans who will be around for a long time. Not any different than what TLG does on a regular basis. Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) ^Disney makes the marketing decisions. Disney makes the show decisions, including the basic direction and feel. Nope. Disney's influence on the show probably began and ended with "We want a new show with more of an old-school OT feel to get folks excited about the new movies, since we're canceling TCW so we don't have to deal with Cartoon Network anymore." As for minifigs, we know we're getting Kallus, Sabine, another Ezra and Kanan, Wookiees, the Inquisitor, a few stormtroopers (at least one may be a specialized trooper of some sort), AT-DP pilots, and an Imp officer. I think that about covers the upcoming sets. Edited September 21, 2014 by Venkefedo Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) ^Disney makes the marketing decisions. Disney makes the show decisions, including the basic direction and feel. Ahsoka was really......lame. She got better in later seasons, but her design was goofy, her voice was childish, and her feats were not plausible. Quick question, were you a fan of TCW? Just wondering. Personally I'd take Ahsoka over the Graffiti artist wearing pink armor 365 days a year. Rebels has a long way to go. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the show makes it 4 seasons. Slurpifier Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Time for my voice. I'd be surprised if Rebels got to season three. My worry is, soon as Episode VII kicks in, the production of Rebels will slow down. Why? Disney will want to make as much money as possible for marketing reasons, thus shifting their focus on the Sequel Trilogy. Quote

Disney will want to make as much money as possible for marketing reasons, thus shifting their focus on the Sequel Trilogy. Rebels is part of that shifting of focus away from PT and is why they cancelled TCW. It'll be a good introduction for the younger crowd who will then be interested in OT and ultimately episodes vii-ix. Thus the shows success is hinged on creating new Star Wars fans who will buy into the overall franchise. Just have to look at it as part of a much larger picture. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Personally I'd take Ahsoka over the Graffiti artist wearing pink armor 365 days a year. Rebels has a long way to go. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the show makes it 4 seasons. Female. Mandalorian. With. Pink. Armor. Who. Likes. To. Blow. Things. Up. How can you not love that?! Female. Cat-Ear alien. With. Orange. Skin. Who. Whines. A lot. How CAN you love that?! My worry is, soon as Episode VII kicks in, the production of Rebels will slow down. Why? Disney will want to make as much money as possible for marketing reasons, thus shifting their focus on the Sequel Trilogy. Yeah, TCW had a sense of "this is it" since there were no more movies planned then. Rebels seems like it is just a filler for advertising to get Star Wars out there again, to pump up a whole new generation. Once VII arrives, Rebels will go out. Permanently. Really, they have until November of 2015, and then the show will be forgotten, since the focus of Disney will be advertising VII. Quote
Samiens Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Teenager at war whines...how unrealistic... (Don't really get the alien hate- its Star Wars...) Personally they both seem like the most interesting heroic characters in their respective shows. Quote

Since you didn't answer my question, I'll make a tentative guess that you weren't a fan of TCW. Other than the images for Rebels, I know nothing about the show, let alone find anything to love about it. I do find the AT-DP very interesting and am planning on making it my first LEGO purchase of Star Wars Rebels. Quote

Personally I'd take Ahsoka over the Graffiti artist wearing pink armor 365 days a year. Rebels has a long way to go. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the show makes it 4 seasons. Hell, yeah. Female. Mandalorian. With. Pink. Armor. Who. Likes. To. Blow. Things. Up. How can you not love that?! Female. Cat-Ear alien. With. Orange. Skin. Who. Whines. A lot. How CAN you love that?! Euh, because, we are AFOLs? Like, real A? I don't care about things being blown up, I care about the character development. But, to take your line of thought, this little alien that whines a lot has developed quite a relationship over time with these Mandalorians that like blowing stuff, huh? (aka. see my previous post...) Yeah, TCW had a sense of "this is it" since there were no more movies planned then. On that I agree with you, I believe Disney will want to focus on post-Episode VII after the premiere, so I give a show one year. Quote
Jacob_9821 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 This wave looks like an interesting one to say the least. I think it would also be a fairly cheap wave for me as well. I will be buying the Azure Angel, AAT, T-16 Skyhopper and possibly Sabine Wren. Still need to purchase sets from the Summer wave. The Imperial Star Destroyer comes to mind... Quote

In other words, a character created to appeal to children, especially younger girls. "Mandalorian with pink armor who likes to blow things up" - how is that an argument for anybody past the age of 12 to like the character? You even seem to be attacking Ahsoka for her Togruta appearance - Shaak Ti's species that appeared long before Ahsoka... Not to mention that those aren't cat ears, but even if they were, I don't see what is exactly wrong with that. There have been cat-like species for a long while now... how is that more ridiculous than a Mandalorian in pink armor? Oh, hey, look guys, it's Star Wars! Aliens?! Aliens in Star Wars? Inconceivable! ChiefPie Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I like TCW and OT and PT I mean seriously they are all part of starwars. I don't know what is wrong with PT. But rebels will be interesting for shore, pink mando yes. I'm just waiting for new imperial Legos. Quote
Rob1321 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 It's not Disney. You know that it's mostly TCW folks running this show, right? Not Disney. They're not the ones saying "we need a young teen protagonist" <coughAHSOKAcough>, they're not the ones saying "make it kiddie", etc. All we've seen are clips and non-episode shorts. And Ezra isn't younger than Luke, from a certain point of view... If he were the age in Rebels that Luke was in ANH, that'd mean he'd have been a 5-year-old probably already in the Jedi Order, not a baby who hadn't been found by the Jedi yet before Order 66 happened. And we all need to quit labeling everything in the show as "McQuarrie". Much of it is, but plenty of other elements draw from other concept artists of the OT... Not to mention all the new stuff the design team will dream up for the show Are you serious? It is all DISNEY. Disney is calling ALL of the shots here. Do you not know of Disney and their history? Look at their documentary on what they did to the "Emperor's New Groove". Nope. Disney's influence on the show probably began and ended with "We want a new show with more of an old-school OT feel to get folks excited about the new movies, since we're canceling TCW so we don't have to deal with Cartoon Network anymore." Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Wow, people are attacking Sabine now. " Oh, pink appeals to little girls! ". No, it completely separates itself from anything prior in Star Wars. Ahsoka is just......generic alien-species. Did she grow and change during the show? Yes. But she just lacks a unique quality, and I think Sabine's character is filled with unique traits. Sabine is expressive, creative, destructive, unique, and I'll just say it: cool. People love Boba Fett, why not Sabine? Also, I just want to take a poll here, to get us on the same, friendly ground again: anyone like Zeb? Quote
MandaloretheLesser Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) I really think this wave is all over the place. With sets from OT,PT,EU, TCW AND SWR. And after all that a set from the CW micro series. What is up with that?? I really have no idea what sets to buy if any at all. The only ones i can see myself buying at the moment are the Skyhopper and the Rebels stuff. But only once i see official pictures. These prelims are really hard to get an idea of what to buy. So i guess time will tell. Also lets leave the CW vs Rebels BS off this topic. Maybe start another. Edited September 22, 2014 by MandaloretheLesser Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I agree. I'm done with fighting opinions. T-16, Shadow Troops, Hailfire, and AT-DP are definite buys, AAT and Geonosis Troops are possible buys, and everything else is a definite no. I'm on the fence about Ezra's Speeder Bike: on the one hand, it has the cool-or-lame-depending-on-your-viewpoint Sabine Wren, while on the other hand it seems overpriced and small. However, with the exception of the 4 definite buys, this wave can easily be a pass. And I have no doubt that the summer wave will be just as cheap. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'll probably buy Ezra's Speeder Bike. No reason I can't swap out Sabine's headpiece for another. And with the Amazing Technicolor Outfits from SW:tOR, having a pink-dyed* outfit is actually par for the course. *Pretty much all clothing in SW:tOR has a dye slot. Some people...use it better than others. Quote

Look at their documentary on what they did to the "Emperor's New Groove". Bro, the only and I mean only reason we are getting a female mando graffiti artist who wears pink is for marketing reasons. You really need to do some research on Disney. I know Disney plenty well, I've worked for them before. Disney has bigger fish to fry than micromanaging LFL about an animated series. And don't forget that the hell of Kingdom of the Sun led to Emperor's New Groove, a far fresher & funnier film than was originally planned... and that in many ways it was Disney giving up on the big epic KOTS that allowed ENG to sneak into being. Too many of you put too much weight behind the whole "Disney's in charge" thing... and it's equally amazing to see how many folks expect Disney to just kill off Rebels once Episode VII hits. Rebels is SW's TV presence for the foreseeable future; they likely won't start up a post-ROTJ series until at LEAST Episode VIII is out, maybe not even until the trilogy is complete (or run the risk of the next film kinda not meshing with the support series, as happened with Dark Horse's comics, Del Rey's books, and the Tartakovsky Clone Wars during the prequels, in various ways). And even if they did start up a post-ROTJ show in the next few years, there's nothing to say they couldn't run it concurrently with Rebels. It'd likely strengthen the timeslot on Disney XD, having a full hour of new Star Wars every week. Marketing gold! A pink badass Mando girl doesn't mean "Disney marketing" either; it's ANY studio's marketing. Again, Ahsoka says hello. Filoni even said in interviews Sabine grew out of his ideas for Bo Katan, and he suggested a Mando girl to Weisman & Kinberg. If it were Disney, then Sabine would be a Mando princess... which technically may still be possible (Satine was a Duchess, perhaps there was also a Mando royal family, maybe exiled or thought lost in the conflicts that led to the pacifists taking power?), but I don't think it likely. Even then, Filoni & Co could've thought up such a story on their own, entirely independent of the Mouse. They might think it a clever ruse, with Sabine's name being only one letter off as a clue that she's also nobility... that the reveal of her royal status could be played into a "No, I am your father"/"another Skywalker" reveal down the line... that the PT & TCW had (former) Queen Amidala, the OT had Leia, so Rebels should have a royal, too... Tho I still fully expect Leia to show up in the series for an episode or two, eventually. Anyhoo, Disney can be very micromanage-y about a lot of stuff (projects I've worked on for them bear such scars), but I think it's fairly hands-off, mostly S&P stuff, letting LFL take point. If Disney really wanted to be controlling, it'd be produced here in LA. And in most interviews I've seen about Rebels, Disney is hardly mentioned aside from being the network it's on... It's all Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy. Quote
namioik Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 The miniseries cartoon, or The Clone Wars cartoon? I'm hoping she's going to have the face she had in the former. No TCW cartoon face like the past sets... I wasn't too fond of how different the faces looked when next to regular Star Wars faces. That was my only reason why I did not collect any TCW sets sadly...
