The-Nexu Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 In 2012 we got 0 attack of the clones sets despite it being the 10th aniversery. However, we did get an x wing, a tie fighter, a droid escape and a y wing. Weather or not this was because of the 35th anivercery of a new hope is debatable, however. I personally think that it did play a role. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I think so too. But that made sense: Lego wanted to do both anniversaries, so they did the larger one (ANH) first, and then did the Decade Anniversary of AOTC in 2013, so that they would not conflict with each other. But at least the AOTC waves in that year appeared throughout the winter and summer waves, whereas this year's ROTS wave is limited to Winter. Edited October 6, 2014 by LN-01354 Quote

But at least the AOTC waves in that year appeared throughout the winter and summer waves, whereas this year's ROTS wave is limited to Winter. I thought that AotC sets were released last year for the re-release of the movie in 3-D which was canceled. Also, 327th Star Corps troopers could support a Gelagrub set, and I wouldn't mind a new AT-OT w/ Dropship, even though I doubt either would happen. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 ^Or just a speeder bike. It doesn't need to be a big set, just a battle pack. Quote
Artanis I Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The Episode II sets were released to coincide with the 3D re-release in cinemas. As were the Episode III sets. Both movies were cancelled, but the Lego sets were released anyway. Nothing to do with anniversaries. Now we have Rebels sets being released to coincide with the new TV show. Soon, we will have Episode VII sets to coincide with that movie's release. Every wave a bunch of "nothing to do with the rest" sets get released too. This year's midyear wave was heavy on that, because there wasn't actually any SW media out at the time. Quote
Spyderlord Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 In my views, the only way TLG would release Jedi Temple set is as Taj-Mahal style UCS, but if that ever happens, it won't be anytime soon. I think that re-release of the Falcon UCS is way more probable than Jedi Temple. It's way more iconic, although I'd kill for a well-executed 5000+ bricks Jedi Temple... Quote
J.V.D. Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) ^I agree. And people need to stop saying, "This is ugly." "I hate this" "The Tusken has a balloon head." If you don't like it, don't buy it. Saying "I hate this" is not adding to a discussion; it's just obnoxious. In fact, what was said was : " I am not sure what to think about the Tusken though.. I welcome the fact that the head is done with a new mold, giving details as the goggles and the spikes on the head.. but, at least on the pictures, it seems to big.. inflated.. a balloon head. I'll have to hold one in order to make a final judgement, but I am glad I kept my original 2002 Tuskens" Seems like an elaborated opinion to me.. adding arguments to the discussion.. on topic even. People critisizing new sets instead of just uttering "awesome!" "I NEED this!!!!!" are as big a Lego fan as most on EB.. But being a Lego fan doesn't mean blind adoration for everything coming from Billund.. Edited October 7, 2014 by J.V.D. Quote
The-Nexu Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 This year we got a mos eisley canteena set. Next year we're getting a t-16 skyhopper. Do you think that TLG will do what they did with the episode vi tantooine sets but with the episode iv tantooine sceens with one released every wave? I think that it could be possible. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Whatever gets released next year was decided on last year or even earlier. I'm surprised that the Skyhopper just comes with a basic pilot, not Luke. Quote

But I would like that setup, and it could work with other iconic locations: Hoth, Endor, etc. We need less army spaceships, and more Planet-Specific locations or vehicles. Quote

Blackice200 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) Well, if criticism is welcome, I can't stand the AT-RT in the geo troopers battle pack. The front looks horrible, even worse with the rapid fire shooter. It looks dreadful. At least the swamp speeder last wave looked accurate, minus size and stud shooters. I think Legos thought process was along the lines of this- "Hey guys, you know what would be awesome? Making the bane of the last few waves even bigger, and shoot more studs!" Honestly... Really? Why? No one (minus a few people) actually like the stud shooters. So why make them even bigger? Edited October 7, 2014 by Blackice200 Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The rapid-fire stud shooters were probably planned even before last year's Winter wave pics were revealed... ...and I would think kids would love the stud shooters, rapid or otherwise, aside from the one small problem: they shoot little, round, easily-lost studs. I appreciate that extras are included in stud-shooter sets (beyond the usual extra pieces), and that anyone with a collection of any kind of Star Wars or Agents or many other sets will have extra 1x1 rounds of many colors for even more ammo, but it's still begging for them to be lost behind couches, amidst the carpeting, off in a corner until a cat bats it around into the path to the bathroom, which you'll discover barefoot at 3am... That said...the few times I've fired one of the shooters, it's been kinda fun! Gives me a bit of that "childhood" feeling the flickfires just don't capture (a similar feeling to making a little Lego polybag car, or any small wheeled vehicle build, and rolling it across a table or floor). I'm not crazy about them replacing SW blasters in Battlepacks outright, and I'm not sure what to think of the rapid-fire ones yet, but I don't hate them. I do agree that the "AT-RT" in the Geo set is kinda weak, but there are so many modified walkers scattered around the Clone Wars comics & games that it's easy enough to accept it as something different that just didn't see a lot of wide-spread use... an AT-RFS, maybe? All Terrain Rapid Fire Scout? RFT, Rapid Fire Transport? I dunno! Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Why? No one (minus a few people) actually like the stud shooters. So why make them even bigger? Because the worse the sets get, the easier the year is on your wallet. Lego is trying to HELP us! Quote

Spyderlord Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) Because the worse the sets get, the easier the year is on your wallet. Lego is trying to HELP us! Haha, this was exactly my feeling seeing the set with octuptarra droid last year! I thought that no amount of super-cool airborne troopers will make me disregard that lazy poor excuse for a set. So yes, Lego helped me a lot, but didn't help itself apparently. That's why they decided to re-hash that set in another color with somewhat less insulting vehicle (well, vehicle full stop, not a finger to the fans saying "we can put a half-polished turd and you'll still get it for the minifigures", because we won't). End result, I'm not helped this year at all Edited October 7, 2014 by Spyderlord Quote
AnthonyP301 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I wonder what kind of heads the Senate Commando Troopers have. I expect clone heads (which I don't think resemble clones at all) but they weren't clones in the TV show. I hope they give us some generic heads of different races/colors. I hope that the Battle Droid Troop Carrier isn't too expensive so it can be a substitute for a droid Battle Pack. The TIE Advanced Prototype cockpit looks a bit big, the Hasbro version looks like a TIE Fighter with curved wings. It might be bigger though, I don't have it myself. The Tusken Raider head looks a little better to me now, especially since I realize that other heads (Bith, Rodian, Ithorian, etc.) are similar. I'm surprised now that I realized that Jar-Jar and Unnamed T-16 Pilot (Luke) are the only movie main characters, but I suppose LEGO doesn't release main characters in sets all the time in SW. Quote

I also hope for non-clone heads for the Senate Commandos; a range would be nice, as with the Republic Troopers vs Sith Troopers BP; different skin tones would be great as well (I love the Panaka head for some variety!). The Battle Droid Trooper Carrier will be pretty expensive... even with so many pieces being the cheap "an extra in every bag!" Battle Droid arms, and the BDs being fairly cheap as minifigures go, it's still over 500 pieces and likely $50 minimum. The TIE doesn't have curved wings because...Lego. They do add curved slopes on the outside of the folding panels to give it more of a curved surface... basically it's a prototype of Vader's TIE, and while the Eta-2 interceptors are obvious precursors to TIEs (along with V-wings), this one draws more influence from another, older precursor: the Sith Infiltrator (hence the curved wings in the Hasbro/show model, just like Maul's ship) Lastly, that's not Luke in the T-16 set... merely a Skyhopper Pilot. I'm gonna pretend he's Luke's other pal, Tank, since he's obviously not Biggs or Luke... ...which means Jar Jar is the only major movie character in this whole wave, if you exclude Slave I and if the Custom Starfighter Anakin bears any cartoon styling. I forgot about the Anakin set. I doubt it will have stylized figures since the Geonosis and Senate BP's have movie style printing even though they're inspired by TCW, but we haven't had a set from CW before, so I don't know. Plus the Rebels minifigs have movie-style prints (excluding the Stormie/TIE Pilot). I know that the TIE Advanced Prototype is the prototype of Vader's TIE Advanced x1. The wings weren't my problem, I just think the cockpit is over-sized. I'm hoping for $50 for the BDTC, the BDs are waaay cheaper than normal 'figs. The pilots have printing, but other than that, they may as well just be bricks added to the vehicle. I think the Skyhopper pilot is intended to be Luke, but it could be nearly anyone who lives near Beggar's Canyon and flies a T-16. Who is Tank? Didn't he join the Empire? I think he might have been at the Tosche Station with Biggs, Camie and Fixer in the deleted scene and novelization. Anyways, does anyone think we might get an ARC-170 eventually since there was a MicroFighter of it and it hasn't been made recently. The AAT MF was released in March in the USA and the normal set won't be released until January, so we might get a full-sized ARC-170 later next year or maybe even 2016. Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 It's clearly not Luke, based on their current Luke prints, not to mention the box simply says "Skyhopper Pilot". Tank was Luke's other friend that left Tatooine like Biggs, and was not in the novelization or the actual deleted scene; he was revealed to have joined the Empire in Dark Horse's "EMPIRE" series, but as that's now non-canon we don't know where he disappeared to. I'm hoping the new canon will eliminate the "Imperial Academy" idea, since the idea of Biggs and Luke leaving Tatooine to join the Empire has always been ludicrous (not to mention the deleted scene makes it pretty clear that Biggs isn't in Imperial service, as he wants to jump ship and join the Rebellion before getting drafted). In any case, since it's just some generic Tatooinian, I'm gonna pretend he's pre-ANH Tank, before he leaves for the Academy or whatever. Quote
Phil Slender Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually disappointed at the LACK of stickers on the front of the AAT. Doesn't look right without them. Completely agree. As much as I, like everyone else, hates stickers, this is an instance where it just looks incomplete without them. When I saw the preliminaries, I assumed stickers would be coming later, but apparently not. That being said, the scale and shape of the vehicle seems to be the most accurate of the three iterations, so I'm still looking forward to this set. Quote
