I ponder Heckz'(s?) words and let out a growl.

"Heckz speaks well. You are not a hero, perhaps you were once, although if so, you have turned your back on heroing it seems. If you really were a hero, why did you quit?"

I then speak diplomatically, "Also, I'm assuming you entered this place without an undead army at your heels. Therefore, if you really wanted to free these poor souls, why don't you do so immediately? You can always gather another army at the next place of holding and would cut out any risk of your not keeping control of these. Furthermore, I don't like the idea of someone like you traipsing around town with an army like this. There is just too much at risk. I say we free these undead now. Then we will determine what course of action to take in regards to these holding places and the necromancers running them."

"I did not quit, I was slain. I fully intend on releasing these poor souls once the task here is completed."

"And this benefits me how, exactly? The only thing you are doing is destroying a place that is extremely important to me keeping my stuff. While Alistair here is offering me loot and treasure... "

He then turns to Alisatir.

"...Right?"

"Do you expect me to lavish riches upon you when you still have failed to accomplish your goal? Besides I have my own personal collection, including that helm which would be of interest to you."

"Wait a moment. Why are you so trusting of someone who you don't know who is leading a huge army? What's in it for you anyway?"

Still haven't failed a quest for Heroica to date. Will I allow this to be my first.

I whisper to Thalion, "Why don't we first remove these walking corpses and send them back to their graves. I would personally not desire to be caught in a battle between two necromancers with a team of undead who could flip flop between the sides as easily as Heckz would if he were offered a larger reward."

"If Retak turns out to be trustworthy then I've just solved one hell of a problem. Maybe Alistair's less of a risk to side with, but he's also enslavin' the undead."

"Enslaving? These are undead, they've lived their lives, merely tools, shells, fodder for the betterment of society, what greater honor is there than that once you have passed?"

"Havin' a homeless drunk piss on your grave. The dead need to stay in the damn ground."

Atramor glared at the necromancer, the point of the Pheles Kris only a few feet from his neck.

"The green guy offered me somthing, Mister Retak Uglysp. What can you offer me aside from releasing this poor full of life beings."

He said in a mockeing tone. Then he looked at the female paladin.

"And aside from this gorgeous lady right here."

"Offer you? Aside from the chance to make a difference? It seems Heroica is still filled with mercenaries. My enemies' possessions are of now use to me, what they have is yours."

"Careful sorcerer, or I'll smite that cocky attitude right off your face."

Heckz thinks for a while.

"So basically, it's the same thing. That's no fun, Pretzel, I'll stand where you stand. I need my heals and you are more trustworthy than these two."

Heckz winks at her again.

Heh, i've still got it.

"Damn it! Then let's bury the undead again and once we're through with that we can take care of this business. No matter who takes control of them, both of these fellows are necromancers and are clearly quite used to pulling the dead up from their graves. Sure, your friend there may say that he's against that sort of thing, but obviously he has quite a lot of experience in seizing control of the dead. He's a necromancer and not to be trusted. Better the devil that you know to the one you don't."

Hope this isn't getting too long for you guys. I would like to hear back from Thalion.

I don't care much which way this goes, but poor Pretzel is rather torn right now.

"He's lettin' them die after he's done makin' sure they can't be raised again...."

"Both sides need to be dealt with. I am not willing to trust this upstarts word. He looks like a fellow who would readily go back on it," I mutter so only the party can hear. "Let's say this, we defeat the green necromancer and put this behind us and then we take care of the undead army, giving them a funeral. Retak goes his way if he wants to, if he prefers to fight, we defeat him. I would not have him leave this place with an army of undead like this in tow. ...on second thought, do we know how to get out of this plain without the necromancer's help?"

"The dead should stay dead. I was thought necromancy is a forbidden school of magic, but nonetheless I managed to glance at some of Zigfrieds practices and can see the usefulness one might have of the undead, but there is definitely no honor in their servitude, willing or forced. What's more, the raised undead are supposed to be mindless husks, who cannot comprehend but the simplest of orders; having the will to realize their situation is far beyond what they should be capable of doing. Just remember the first group we encountered when we got here, the one who looked like he was formerly of my kind responded to my statement, even though I expected him not to understand or even hear me. I cannot explain how or why it came to be the case here, but I stand with my decision."

Thalion looks at Monk, "You have a point there, but we can worry about that later, once we deal with the devil we know, as you put it."

OOC: I am so sorry I din't have a chance to respond sooner, but it was a really busy day at work yesterday.

"If we destroy Retak's army, how is he gonna take care of the dozens of other necromancers in the other planes? He's goin' to dispel them once he's done. He has control of an undead army, what use would he have lyin' to us?"

I stand there for a while uncertain how to proceed.

Go against my employer, even though he is indeed a necromancer at least he seems to be seeking the help of others even if his methods are entirely wrong? I have never failed a quest. Will this be my first?

But then should I go against the wishes of my party and my party leader? I have never done that in all my time at Heroica either...apart from once, but he was clearly in the wrong then...

They are right in many ways. This is a fine pickle.

I turn to Atramor.

"What has changed for you? From when we first encountered the sniveling creature, we knew that there were necromancers running this place and what their practices were and yet you still fought to protect them. What has changed now? Why didn't you side with the undead then?"

"That's his problem. I don't really feel like taking a chance of having thousands of undead roaming the streets of Eubric while one person controlls them all. He can buy automatons or something, that way the Ji Pei can stop him if necessary."

"Sidin' with a horde of aimless undead lookin' to kill everythin' in sight wasn't, and still isn't, gonna solve crap," explained Atramor, glancing sideways at Pretzel though he still held the kris pointed at Alistair. "But it turns out they're not aimless. Retak has a solution to the problem. He's leadin' the undead and is offerin' to go destroy every necromancer in every plane while leavin' us the opportunity to fix this situation."

Posted

"Furthermore, he raised this army on his own it seems. He could just do so at other holding planes."

The burden of deciding for Heckz made the decision no easier.

"Fine," I agree weakly, unable to make up my mind but siding with what seems like the easier option. "Let's do it then. Although I sure hope somebody knows how to get us out of here once we're done."

I feel weak and sickly someone. It felt strange and utterly abominable to know that I would be fighting alongside a horde of demons. I clutch my staff for support.

"Let's get this over with." I say, moving to stand alongside the other heroes.

Why can't heroes just hold onto their bloody equipment like they did in the old days?
