Palathadric Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 "From the priestess herself?" I gasp somewhat stunned, but then say diplomatically. "But surely she would realize that there is a better option. If she were here she would realize what is needed to do. Sometimes people not at the scene itself do not understand the situation fully. The dead do not deserve this kind of treatment. Listen, Fervent, what are you fighting for now anyway? Your backers are dead. Why hang on stubbornly when there are better options and nobler ones too?"
Waterbrick Down Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 "The counsel to the priestess, I'm sure the priestess is not bothered with business issues such as this. As I said, this entire plane is a necessary evil. Upon it, entire economies have prospered and I am but a small player in the scheme of things, this Fenarian may think he can change the way things are, but there are dozens of similar planes, all with necromancers and security of their own. How can I stand to let him live just so that he might kill again those whom are simply obeying orders?" Fervent hung his head. "What is done, is done however. The plane is in ruins and I am sure my superiors will be none the happier for it." Fervent looked around once more and sheathed his sword. The Battle is Victorious! CMP Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) "I already made my plans for this plane clear," snapped Atramor. "We can get someone else to watch over this place. Something that doesn't require undead to run. Now, anyone want anythin' in particular from this loot, or-?" He frowned, breaking off, narrowing his eyes at the sound of soldiers. He drew the Pheles Kris, cracking the door to see what lay outside, raising his hand for silence from the rest of the party. Edited September 2, 2014 by CallMePie
Waterbrick Down Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 "What the Ji Pei? You'll hand every pocket dimension in Eubric over to a single house? I'm sure that will go over well." Atramor glances outside and sees a good six dozen soldiers and knights all bearing the Eagle crest of Ennoc.
CMP Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 "As opposed to leaving them in hands of necromancers and undead? I trust the Ji Pei." Atramor stepped back from the door and looked at Fervent. "It looks like more paladins. Look. It sounds like neither you nor Ferfew liked the arrangements here with the undead." The regulator scratched his chin, deep in thought. He looked between the paladins and Retak, then began speaking again diplomatically. "How about you both go talk to them? Try and get this priestess's council to withdraw their support of the necromancers. What happened here is a damn fine example of what can happen when dealin' with their kind, so ya' shouldn't have too much trouble. If the necromancers get evicted, Retak won't have to go on a killin' spree, a buncha paladins don't have to die for no good reason, and ya' can continue overseein' this plane once we get someone else to handle the legwork. Sound reasonable?"
Palathadric Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I Repeat my Attack, assuming he doesn't surrender and give up his drops. "And any chance that I could get armour like the kind you're wearing? I have yet to see one of its kind in Ennoc. Besides, If you give it to me, I'll give you my Heavy Armour for it, plus some. It looks like you could use immunity to fragility," I chuckle.
Waterbrick Down Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 "The necromancers were at least an independent faction." Fervent looked out the door. "That's the 18th Battalion of Light big on smiting, not much else, death and glory types. There ain't going to be a lot of reasoning with them, they're probably here for one reason, extermination. Won't be the types to reason about policy with."
CMP Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 "Extermination? Of what? I'd imagine they only got here because of Greenhood's message. And there ain't even any undead left."

"My armor is a mark of my station, each commander of a battalion is given a set specifically made for them. I'm sure if you rose in the ranks of our order you would find yourself in the ownership of a pair. Considering your actions today however and your tendency for aborting your mission, I'd say your chances are unlikely." "Extermination? Of what? I'd imagine they only got here because of Greenhood's message. And there ain't even any undead left." "Undead, undevout, unbelieving, un-anything. You go out and tell them you just killed the one they were sent to protect, you're not going to last a minute."

We'll tell them the paladins died protectin' the necromancers against the undead. Not particularly untrue. We'll pass Retak off as one of us heroes and that you two were the only survivors, although we managed to wipe out the undead. Once they realize there's nothin' here to kill, they'll run off, aye? Then you can have a chat with the priestess like I suggested." Atramor looked sideways at Fervent. "Don't worry about the politics of this. The Ji Pei don't use undead and their automatons make a hell of a better replacement. If they want to make profits off of this like the necromancers were, fine, what the hell is the problem with it?"

CMP Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 "I wouldn't call this plane public. The people who can afford to use this kinda magic can afford to pay a bit for the maintenance of their stuff."
-obelix- Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 "As opposed to leaving them in hands of necromancers and undead? I trust the Ji Pei." Thalion nodded, "I do as well. Their automatons are a far better replacement than the unwilling, reanimated bodies." Thalion paused for a moment, "Just listen to the connotation of what I said in the last sentence and you will see how wrong it was." "And as for the necromancers, you can try to justify their actions any way you like, altruistic, public service, whatever. The simple fact is, all other things aside, they used this opportunity to practice a forbidden magic and did so freely and without any control or oversight."
Waterbrick Down Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) "I guess it all depends on who was doing the forbidding." Fervent paused for a moment, "Necromancer, you're with me, we'll try and pass you off as one of the last survivors." Fervent stepped outside with Retak, a few minutes later the Paladin beckoned the heroes. Outside a dozen Paladins stood in full plate armor, one, a Minotaur, approached the party. "I am Commander Brusk, leader of the Eighteenth Battalion of Light. Commander Fervent here, was just telling me of your bravery in putting down the Undead insurrection. My superiors informed me of the purpose of this place and while I can't condone the decisions of our order, orders are order. I was tasked with your Party's and any survivors' extraction from this plane. I met the remaining Fenarian Necromancer, if there are no other survivors, I'll have my men scout out and put down any of the remaining Undead on the plane while I escort you out. Are you ready? Follow me." The party followed Commander Brusk out to the entrance hall. A group of priests stood arrayed in a circle with a circular portal showing the streets of Eubric against one of the supporting walls. The heroes were conducted through the portal and found themselves near the front of the Observatory. "I assume, the Fenarian will want to rest. Commander Fervent and his lieutenant will accompany me back to the temple to make their report. I trust you are in need of nothing else? Good." Without waiting for an answer the Minotaur, accompanied by the two Paladins left in the direction of the Temple of Ennoc. The party stood alone with Retak. "You have given me a second chance Heroes, something I never believed I would gain. I still have much work ahead of me, but thanks to you, the path is somewhat easier. I must away to the next plane, I took the liberty of identifying the entrances to several other pocket dimensions while in the green-one's office. I am not one for last words, for who knows if they are indeed ever our last." Does the Party have any last words for the Necromancer? Edited September 3, 2014 by Waterbrick Down
Cutcobra Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 "I'm not sure if we should give this plane to the Ji Pei either. What if they steal my stuff? Can't you just buy automatons and put them here?" Heckz then glares at the minotaur with disgust. He then turned to Retak, where it looked like he was going to say something inspiring and heartwarming, he just said. "You still owe me loot and treasure Mister Uglysp."
Waterbrick Down Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 "And what would you have me give you, boy? The clothes on my back? I offered you whatever the green-one or his minions carried, nothing more, nothing less."
Cutcobra Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 "Fine then, don't be a man of your word. All I heard from you is you could give me all this plane had."
Palathadric Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 "You wouldn't happen to be eager to give away that crown would you?" I mutter more to myself than to him. "Well, I wish you success with your endeavour," I say rather glumly, still inwardly kicking myself for letting the commander surrender when we could have killed him. Idiot didn't even have any words of thanks for sparing his life. How did saving him benefit us or anyone else anyway? I wonder.

CMP Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Atramor nodded to the rest of the party, turning to head out, before a chicken swooped down from seemingly nowhere and landed on his shoulder. The regulator frowned, but didn't shoo it away. "And where the hell've you been?" McCafferey ruffled her feathers and clucked quietly. <"I was merely curious to see what you would do leading alone. It is interesting to see you make your own choices. I stress only interesting. And perhaps I also wished to maintain a lower profile."> "Hmph. Hard to get any lower profile than another plane." Atramor glanced at the docks once more before setting out. "Better be worth this damn trouble..." Thanks for hosting WBD. I had a lot of fun.
-obelix- Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Thalion bid farewell to his fellow heroes, picked up the things he loaned out and went back towards the Hall. Thank you very much for hosting WBD, it was truly a nice quest. I had a really great time. P.S. Thalion has 2 Deadly Venoms and no Jinxy Juice, but you dont have to worry, I have updated stats page accordingly. Edited September 3, 2014 by -obelix-
