Thalion looks at the mechanism before him and tries to think how it might work.

OOC: I do not have all the bricks necessary to build this and try out the turning and the digital designer doesn't seem to be of any help since I am not very proficient with it... :sceptic:

Atramor affixes a 12-tooth gear on top of the 40-tooth gear, a 16-tooth gear on top of the 12-tooth gear, and the 8-tooth gear on the final axle.

The 36-tooth turns the 12-tooth gear three times, which turns the 40-tooth gear underneath it three times, which turns the other 12-tooth ten times, which turns the 16-tooth gear on top of it ten times, which turns the 8-tooth gear twenty times.

QM Note: Technically this is a valid solution, but I should have made it clearer earlier and I really should have built this to scale to make it easier on you guys, but you need to use all the pieces. You're close though. :classic:

The mechanism does not budge. Atramor discovers he has an extra axle and extra 16 teeth gear left over that still should fit somewhere.

Atramor instead stacks the 16-tooth gears on top of eachother and uses the extra axle to set the 12-tooth gear between them and the 8-tooth gear.

I can tell this probably isn't the solution you had in mind but I used all pieces and it works damn it.

QM Note: It wasn't.

Atramor arranges the pieces in a half-hazard manner and actually gets the mechanism to start turning albeit with a rather loud and rasping grinding. The noise alerts the crowd of undead, but not before the party can slip inside the library and close the door behind them. The party finds themselves in a small room, right in the middle of a heated conversation.

"Sod it Aroosie, we're going to die in here anyways, now tell me what door it's in!"

Posted

"Well, it'll do."

Atramor remained behind the rest of the party, guarding the door, although the Pheles Kris was levelled at the vulture man.

"Hold it, Beakface. Nobody else is dyin' in here. Who are you both and why are you wavin' swords at eachother?"

Posted

"Oooh, a party."

He says as he enters the library.

"So, mister Uglybirdo and Uglyeyeo, you both know U'reeves so we are technically trustworthy. Now, would you mind telling us where our stuff is?"

"Her name is Mogwin, apprentice necromancer, and I am Aroosie, librarian. As for the swords, perhaps Mogwin would like to explain."

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"Explaining won't change a thing and you know it Cherubian, doesn't matter how these idiots got in here, they're only going to die too. So tell me what door has it?"

"Just because you keep the company of U'reeves hardly proves that you are trustworthy, friend. Just as Mogwin here is now in U'reeve's company and I can easily inform you that she is anything but trustworthy."

"Quit whinin', we took care of a fair chunk of undead and we can sure as hell handle the rest as soon as we know where our stuff is. Mogwai, what are you squawkin' about? What door are ya' lookin' for?"

"It's Magwin and I hardly doubt that a bunch of rag-tags like you will be able to do what a cohort of Paladins could not. No we are going to die, it's just a matter of when."

14723481066_19ea9ce934_t.jpg

"Then why are you so insistent of knowing the location of Alistair's door? Besides, you should know that the threat of death means nothing to a Cherubian, given our reincarnation."

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"Not if I raise you first as a thrall."

"Wouldn't last long, you're about as drained of ether as I am."

"We're part of Heroica, it's our job to do what everyone else would die doin'. Look, we're here to rescue everyone left alive in here, Greenhood got a message to the outside and, well, here we are. There's a boatload of undead outside and we need to know which doors have our stuff in them so we can get you and everyone else outta here."

Posted

"Other then that, I would like to know what are necromancers doing in, or rather guarding as it would seem, pocket dimensions?"

Posted

"Aside from being from Heroica, as the others said. We are also acompanied by a friendly little paladin who wants to save this holding plane too. You trust Paladins, right?"

"And what the hell is a Cherubian, anyways. Sounds like a fat spider."

"Ah, Alistair is quite resourceful, I knew he would find a way to communicate with the outside world. No need, to justify your actions heroes, I can see you're telling the truth. I can get you a map to your doors, but there are still the matters of the undead outside the door and the sword at my throat that I think we should attend to first."

"Other then that, I would like to know what are necromancers doing in, or rather guarding as it would seem, pocket dimensions?"

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"Who else would you expect but necromancers to manage over a hundred undead workers to keep the pocket dimensions of the city of Eubric and the surrounding area in smooth operating conditions? It's an ingenious system."

"Aside from being from Heroica, as the others said. We are also acompanied by a friendly little paladin who wants to save this holding plane too. You trust Paladins, right?"

8666359670_4a8e090c2b_t.jpg

"Um... not a Paladin."

14723481066_19ea9ce934_t.jpg

"Yes, I can plainly see and tell. Cherubian is the name of my people, but I won't bore you with the details, suffice it to say we're a very long-lived race, immortal for all practical purposes, and we don't take too kindly to dishonesty from any individual. Isn't that right, Magwin?"

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"You useless truth-loving piece of..." The were-vulture pauses a brief moment and collects herself, "Have you made a decision, thrall or informant?"

Posted (edited)

"Has the beaked fellow been dishonest? I always say, don't trust a necromancer. Would one of you care to explain what exactly is going on here and why you're holding a sword on him?"

"Magwin here wants the location of Alistair's personal door, something about an artifact. I am only obligated to inform the true owner of their door's placement."

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"I just want to see if he truly does have the Crown of Helvetia in his possession."

14723481066_19ea9ce934_t.jpg

"And what good would it do you to know such a thing, if we're going to "die" anyways?"

14654719629_a76472b67c_t.jpg

"It'll at least provide someone with a way out, should these heroes fail in their 'rescue' attempts, something I find hard to doubt."

"Then why aren't you obliged to tell us where our doors are? That's all we want."

He then turns to Ratabor.

"Isn't Pretzel a paladin?"

"As I said, I'd be happy to layout where yours are but we might have more pressing issues, young mage."

"So are there that many ideas that we can adopt to take out those undead apart from just going out there and fighting them? Are there any other exits from this room? Are there any spells written on those scrolls or anything of worth for fighting the undead in those books of yours?"

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe WBD said this would be a short quest with just two or three battles in which case it's very possible that he's not intending for us to get our equipment before the quest is over. :shrug_confused:

In other news, I've not had electricity in days and the generator broke down today. Thankfully, it was a small problem and I was able to repair it, however if I disappear for a while in the future, you know the reason.
