Posted July 26, 201410 yr Here is my latest modular MOC for our town layout and although the upstair of the interior still has some work to finish, the outside if complete and ready to go on display next week at BrickFair VA. Here a a couple of shot of the front. And of course, the back is finished as well.
July 27, 201410 yr I like it, it looks like a modularized Friends juice bar. Please show us pictures of the interior when it's done.
July 27, 201410 yr Nice! I like the contrast between the bright juice bar and more earthy tones of the rest of the building. Looking forward to seeing the inside.
July 27, 201410 yr Author Thanks for the compliments. I was trying to maintain the look of the original Juice Bar but blend it with the look of a building that you would see along the "Main Line" in the suburbs of Philly. After having worked for a retail chain and seeing how they graft a facade to a building in an area, I was determined to make this look like the the Juice Bar was a chain of stores and they had a standard look for all their stores that they open. The downstairs is complete, but is essentially packed for travel to BrickFair later this week. The upstairs has a completed bathroom, but the main area still needs a bit of work as far as the flooring and the furniture. In a few weeks I hope to have it all finished, And the "clouds" appeared as I was trying to come up with a way to blend the transition between the Juice Bar and the rest of the MOC. Consequently, this for now will also symbolize my "Cloud Cuckoo" MOC but my motorized facade is still in the works for another 16 wide modular building. If you are at BrickFair VA, stop by the PennLUG display to see this MOC and visit me while I work the DelVaLUG MoonBase during the public hours.
August 3, 201410 yr Author Here is the Juice Bar hanging out in the wild and in its natural element at BrickFair VA. BFVA has been a blast and I will have many more pictures from the event on my Flickr stream. Also, this is the main reason why the upstairs of the interior has not been completed. Sad part is the 1950's era pink toilet will not get replaced with the upstairs structural rehab in the coming weeks. Many thanks to KC Ross (aka Creative Snail in many AFOL forums), Rob Bender, and Cale Leiphart for letting me join their layout this weekend at BFVA. Also, a special thanks to Todd Webb and the rest of the BFVA team that helped us with this wonderful convention and a very pleasing set of public days.
August 3, 201410 yr It really does look great, maybe even more so in that last picture. I really like the top part of the facade, but the way you've re-designed the lower part to fit with a brand design is very clever, too.
August 4, 201410 yr Author Thanks everyone for the compliments. I am pleased to say this is the first modular that I have built that comes apart in floors and has an interior for the use use on layouts that move from event to event and it really held up well in car on the 3+ hour journey to and from Chantilly, VA. I used twice as many studs to hold the floors together than you would find on a standard lego modular and the reinforced base worked very well to hold all the interior parts in place. Now, time to look for flooring to complete the upstairs and get the interior ready for the photo shoot.
August 4, 201410 yr A very good 1/2 modular building. Just what our cities and towns need. Maybe lego could produce some of these for us?
August 5, 201410 yr Really nice building. I like that headlight miwed with the old style tan facade! This mixes really well. And the gold stuffs on the top gives it something more!
August 5, 201410 yr While looking around the forum I was contently whistling to myself, then I clicked on this and I was so amazed I stopped. No joke. Nice façade. Great work! Edited August 5, 201410 yr by ManInATopHat
August 5, 201410 yr This MOC to me made such a better impression in person than just seeing it introduced here. It looked really good on the PennLug display. Great job with it cgarison.
August 6, 201410 yr I've been considering ways to turn the Friends juice bar into a modular. Yours just put to shame any ideas that I had. That is some fabulous work. Really amazing.
August 6, 201410 yr Author This MOC to me made such a better impression in person than just seeing it introduced here. It looked really good on the PennLug display. Great job with it cgarison. Thanks and yes, it displayed very well with the PennLUG layout, but that was due to the fine skill of KC Ross and Rob Bender in bringing the scene to life with the minifigs and the bank heist. For those that want to see the pictures that I took of their display, they can be found at this link. I've been considering ways to turn the Friends juice bar into a modular. Yours just put to shame any ideas that I had. That is some fabulous work. Really amazing. Please, don't think that your ideas for building this wonderful facade into a modular building are any less than this. Build the concept that is in your heart and tweak away until you have the perfect structure for your layout. When I started building the Juicebar MOC, the clouds were not part of the original concept, but I needed the texture on the front to make the facade pop from the rest of the building. Then the pearl gold trim came about as the tan that I originally built looked flat and the original color white scheme on the top just was not visible. Best of luck in your MOC building and share it here for all of us to see. Edited August 6, 201410 yr by cgarison
