Sandy Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 A great series of MOCs! You've once again captured the look and feel of genuine LEGO sets. The theme this time around is somewhat reminiscent of "How to Train Your Dragon", at least to me. I'd love to see more buildings included. The small spire of the Necromancer's Peak promises some inspirational fantasy architecture, so bring it on! Quote

Sandy Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Well, you get your wish - the newest set, 64018 Alchemist Workshop Defense has been added to the first post! Looks absolutely fantastic! It's always great to see a unique concept. I especially love how it's modular, so it can be constructed in several ways. The only thing that struck me odd were the mushrooms growing in the snow, but they're a minor detail. Quote
Mahtion Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 The Alchemist set is amazing, I love the tower and bridge element in Lego sets. They are my favorite type of Lego design. This reminds me of Fangar's Ice Fortress from Chima in a very good way. So many cool things to like from this set from the snow covered ground connecting pieces to the well furnished alchemy tower. Can't wait to see more. What's the biggest set or flagship of this theme? :) Quote
The_Cook Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 A very nice first building, lots of playability. A sensible and balanced number of figures. The construction looks suitably interesting from a wall texture perspective whilst still being simple enough to create instructions for. One question about structural stability, if I pick it up by grasping just one tower (and not supporting the other) how does it cope? I see that you've got the white bar in there to act as a spacer, is that sturdy enough? It may sound trivial but as a "play" set rather than a "display" set it's one of the first things that needs to be considered because it's exactly how kids will move them. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Huge set added to the first post: 64019 Siege of Issiad. Go take a look! The Alchemist set is amazing, I love the tower and bridge element in Lego sets. :) "64020 Battle for Myrdoc Tower" (referenced in the descriptions of 64012 and 64018 if you read them) is my flagship set. It's been photographed - I've got a lot of editing to do before publishing, but it's on its way! A very nice first building, lots of playability. The joint between tower and ground spacer is one Technic pin; this is designed to be a pretty insecure connection, because the spacer is a deliberately separable module. But this also makes the set extremely easy to break into two sturdy halves, if you're unable to hold one tower in each hand; just pull the two towers at ground level and they come right apart for transportation or rearrangement. The_Cook Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Nice build. Good use of BURPs and panels at the bottom to give it height for a minimal piece count and then the wall above provides sufficient textural difference to stop it looking monotonous. The architectural style is clearly different from the opposing faction and consistent applied through the model. Lots of detail on the rear. My one criticism would be that you can't fold it around to create an enclosed castle. However there's plenty of precedent for a straight wall instead of an enclosure, viz Vladeks Dark Fortress, Battle of Nu Metru from Bionicle and Lion Fortress from Chima; so obviously kids are fairly adept at imagining that "the walls go around the back". WhiteFang Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 These are very nice interesting sets that you have come out with! Keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your future stuff. Quote
Mahtion Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 A new Lego fantasy theme would be great to replace LOTR/Hobbit License. If Lego doesn't create one based on your quality, I will recreate your sets because bricklinking the pieces is better than giving Lego money for half hearted set designs. Quote
SerenityInFire Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Sir, if you don't work for Lego, you really should. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 I've added the final set of the wave to the first post: 64020 Battle for Myrdoc Tower! While I've got a few bonus photos to edit (of some possible combinations of 64020 and 64018), this is the last thing to see. Hope you guys like the completed series! Quote
Leewan Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) This is impressive ! I especially like the 64017, because the Dragonslayer is really nice and I like Skolek's color scheme, and the 64018, because it reminds me of Skyrim. But all of your sets are very well designed, and would make awesome Lego sets. Congrats ! Edited August 14, 2014 by Leewan Quote
Fives Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I really like your ideas here. I like the idea of a story driven Fantasy Castle theme, like a mix between Knights Kingdom 2 and LOTR. Detailed sets and figs, with a child friendly story. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 For those of you that might've wondered the extent to which 64018 and 64020 were built for each other: Quote
Black Numenorean Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Nuju, i have followed you since you put minas tirith on lego Ideas. You are a great creator. You will desearve to work for Tlc! Quote
Leewan Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Awesome ! I love when sets are conceived in a modular way and can be rearranged the way you want, and I'm sure it must be very fun to play with those. This is a brilliant concept to allow these sets to be "mixed" with each other. Quote
Alfadas Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Great stuff! Are you going to post them on Ideas? I am sure most of the sets easily get 10k supporters. Quote
fred67 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 These are great... you've really put a lot of thought into these, and I (mostly) stopped buying castle when the Fantasy era ended (although I did buy dragon mountain). I would definitely buy these sets if TLG released them. My only problem... your sets are too nice - you WAY underestimate what TLG would charge for them, IMO. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Thanks everyone for your feedback! Awesome ! I love when sets are conceived in a modular way and can be rearranged the way you want, and I'm sure it must be very fun to play with those. This is a brilliant concept to allow these sets to be "mixed" with each other. Yeah! I designed 64018 and 64020 originally as one set, actually, but when it got too big to conceivably be a retail-sized product, I split it in two (and then separately developed them a bit more, making sure to keep compatibility with one another). I love rearranging them into lots of combinations, and designing a system to allow for the kind of modular flexibility I wanted was a terrifically fun challenge. Great stuff! Are you going to post them on Ideas? I am sure most of the sets easily get 10k supporters. I don't currently plan to put these on Ideas... I don't have faith in my abilities to "market" even a licensed idea (this should've been an easy sell! ), so I don't want to be disappointed when support for an unlicensed idea, even one I think is really pretty neat, is weak. I think the theme is significantly stronger as a whole, anyway, and I'm even more skeptical of the possibility of any one of the sets earning significant enough momentum alone. These are great... you've really put a lot of thought into these, and I (mostly) stopped buying castle when the Fantasy era ended (although I did buy dragon mountain). I would definitely buy these sets if TLG released them. My only problem... your sets are too nice - you WAY underestimate what TLG would charge for them, IMO. I've always estimated my imagined prices a little low, probably; as I wouldn't be able to put back together most of the things I build if I took them apart, I've never bothered to take piece counts of my creations, which is the most accurate way to figure out price point. This is also a major reason why I can't make instructions (along with the fact that they'd take me ages to do!). Quote
Frozen Assasin Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I really, really like those ! They are awesome ! P.S Am I the only one thinking of Megablocks Dragons ? Quote
Borador Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Wow! Those would be some fantastic sets! Great work! Quote
madharlequin Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 These are really nice You should definitely put this up on Ideas Quote
Bricknblue Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I think the prices are laughably off, but the designs. Beautiful. Some of the best brick built dragons I have seen. Quote
