Asuka Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 An ancient Arabian or Persian orientated Castle line could be indeed a wonderful thing, and I guess TLC could also avoid that 'human versus human' oddity by using some kind of cool djinni. There Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 I made a proposal for a Forestmens' "Super Set". Please have a look at http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...11entry250611 and then write what you think about it. Perhaps you've got some new ideas, too, don't you?! Quote
hollisbrick Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Any set that has a ghost thats under $25 Aud and/or anything with a Ninja in it *wub* *wub* Quote
iamded Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Bad Wizzard/Bad Witchincluding a black falcon, a dog, a little dark tree, a magic wand and a silvery tumbler minifigs: bad wizzard or bad witch By the way: I saw a pic of a playmobil set that is a wizzard's workshop on http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.stor...?pid=7927&cgid=. This would be an excellent idea for a new (Classic) Castle set, I'd say! But we already got a bad Wizard in Castle '07, he's the main antagonist. ~Peace Quote
TheFrisian Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 What about an Orc Shaman? That could be a nice addition *sweet* Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I've three new ideas: Civilian Impulse Set a pitchfork, a scythe, a back-basket and a barrel and/or abasket filled with vegetables minifig: civilian with two different multifunctions: -there is a bonnet (for female civilians) and a hood (for female and male civilians) -the minifig's head has two faces (like the princess' head in the Skeletton Tower set) : The front shows a female face and the back a male face That would give you the possibility to create male and female Medieval civilians with the same Impulse set! Of course this set might be because of these extras be a bit more expensice than the "normal" Impulse sets but I think it would be a very senible and nice thing. Since there are these dwarves in the new "Castle" theme, what about?: Dwarves' Hut the dwarves' hut - where they live when not working in the mine - consists of a little prison for the caught little orc and a nice hut that looks similar to Harry Potter Hagrid's Hut http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=4707-1 or http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=4754-1 but smaller ; it is hinged and includes a chimney with cooking site and a table with two benchs including a big tree (like in the new Indiana Jones sets),a draw well, a little pot, a big pot, a pan, a treasure box with gold pieces and jewels, two keys, a brush, two swords, two bucklers, a bow, a quiver, a shovel and a pickaxe minifigs: little orc, dwarf with golden helmet, dwarf with silvern helmet and dwarf with brown helmet Dwarf Impulse set including a little rock piece, a pickaxe, two golden crystals, one silvern crystal, a sword and a buckler minifig: dwarf with brown helmet What do you think? Quote
TheFrisian Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I like those ideas, I would probably buy all three *sweet* Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 But we already got a bad Wizard in Castle '07, he's the main antagonist.~Peace That's right - but don't you think that something in new design but similar to that or that would be awesome ?! Klaus-Dieter Quote
legobear Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I likee that dwarf idea a LOT. I WANT the copper helm. Please please please LEGO do not make a winged silver/gold helmet for the dwarf impulse set. First of all, the barding for the horse is gold and it fits more with the king but we get a ton of those. Then, we get the dwarf in the small set with a silver wing helmet. I hope we can have ordinary dwarfs with copper helmets as well =[. Quote
robbo Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Civilian's would be great...i suppose i can moc my own but its the accessories that i am after. ie animals and produce. i have the blacksmith shop and that gorgeous tavern made back in the eighties (stocked up on a few more when it became legend). Windmills and markets are what i would be interested in...maybe even a farm. Quote
legobear Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Klause, your ideas are good, but remember it means nothing if we don't tell an ambassador. Ambassadors have the job of relying the message to LEGO. This has been tried Klause, many of the things you listed have been brought up, and shot down because kids don't want it. Last year, there was an interview, with the guy that told us about the new advent calendar, he said that they were trying out modular houses or buildings, and the kids didn't enjoy it as much. This is why I think what Asuka says is so important, or else we'll be shot down time after time with the reply "kids aren't interested in it" Listen to what Asuka says...."o, I really think that it should be possible to unite both aspects.... Why not make a set with a neat tavern and some plundering Skellies, or a nice little farm house attacked by a dragon and defended by a Royal Knights catapult crew?" If we want some change with these cart sets, we NEED to tell the ambassadors fine! Kids won't play with a tavern, then tell LEGO put a tavern in with some sort of action element, an attack on the tavern etc. This way, LEGO won't put our ideas down for being too adult, and the kids are happy. This IS THE ONLY WAY, unless all kids become adult fans of LEGO in the next day. Please rely the message to the ambassadors, Let's try unite "both aspects" as Asuka puts it for the next sets to come. Who are the ambassadors by the way???? Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 I didn't gainsay Asuka, legobear. I wouldn't like it to get a set with a nice inn - and at the same time there are included some of these ugly undeads or trolls/orcs - that would be ! But otherwise I wouldn't have something against TLG including knights in a set with medieval town stuff - but they should in a way look arguable! BTW: The list of our ambassadors is here but there will be some new ambassadors soon (surely including Hinckley) - so I think it would make more sense to talk to them then, don't you mean ? BlueBard Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 What about templar knights, sarracene or anything crusades looking? It would be great to see that, wouldn't it? Quote

Wilhelm screamer Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I personally think that our "village over war" is very unrealistic and simply won't work with LEGO's philosophy of "playability over accuracy." And on that note, here is my own idea for a set that would fit their philosophy nicely and several people would like. Troll fortress assault The good knights of the kingdom of the crown have discovered the main base of the trolls and have brought their massive trebuchet for the final battle! The trolls have realized this and prepare for a counter atack launched from their well fortified base. Who will win the final war? *Includes three knights, the good king, 3 troll warriors, the troll king and one giant troll. *Trebuchet fires over 3 feet! *Troll wooden fortress has 3 working catapults and one gear winch! *Prison cells have doors that really open, are stackable and can be lifted by the winch. *troll fort also has throne, turkey cooker and much more! Price: $100 Quote
Dwarvenlord Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 This sounds nice! The poor orcs don't have a home, so i think this would be one of the main things i want new in the castle line. With the exception of the new Dwaf sets . Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 Since we saw now pics of the new awesome Pirates theme next year which doesn't include any fantasy stuff and where the vehicles and buildings are designed in a very really classic style I thought about following and would like to hear your thoughts about that, too : Do you think that there'll be some "normal" (meaning no or nearly no fantasy stuff including) Castle sets after 2010? Share your thoughts. Klaus-Dieter Quote
Aliencat Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I'm not too sure, Klaus-Dieter, we've all seen the maiden figure in the advent calendar which might be a clue towards an upcoming civilian set. But the whole reason Lego is making the Fantasy Era line is that kids want action, and kids are still Lego's main audience. I am also strongly under the impression the new Castle line has been selling much better than the previous Vikings and Knights Kingdom line, so Lego would be foolish to not continue it a bit further, the hint of a possible upcoming Elf faction confirms this more. So it can go both ways really, maybe both at the same time: some civilian stuff and more fantasy stuff. Quote
Capt. Bluebeard Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) I'd personally like to see a "horror" theme, similar to that of 1997's Fright Knights, if not the same. That theme was what got me into LEGO in the first place (which is rather ironic, because according to some stories I've heard, the same theme also made people go into their "Dark Ages" ), and I'd love to see it return. Klaus-Dieter Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) I already posted following idea in the embassy subforum. But since this is a special idea for a Classic Castle set I thought it would make sense to post it here, too, in order to discuss about it. After having seen the 10195 Republic Dropship and AT-OT I thought: Why do we Classic Castle fans don't get a giant castle set with a giant castle and a lot of minifigs for about 200-300 Euro, too?! So here is a new idea for a set I really, really would like to see in the Castle theme: King's Giant Castle  consists of several parts and a huge amount of minifigs and horses: Part 1: King's Tournament -a big tribune with two seats (for the king and the queen) -a round tournament tent -a "barrier" -a lot of tournament weappons, two horses with big printed covers, a bear barrel, some tumblers -queen, king's knight on horseback, king's knight, dragon knight on horseback, dragon knight Part 2: Castle Entry -big tower with drawbridge, portcullis and armory -smugglers' carriage (for carrying vegetables on it and a secret box inside for smuggling weappons) with horse -little field with plants on it and a scarecrow -a lot of weappons, some vegetables -smuggler, little prince, little princess, two guards Part 3: Castle Keep -castle keep with three floors (first floor: stables and kitchen, second floor: throne room and dining room, third floor: attic with library and wizzard's laboratory) -two horses, some weappons, a pan, a pot, some tumblers, a dish, some books, laboratory accessory, two bats -wizzard, two knights on horseback, female cook Part 4: Donjon -donjon with three floors (first floor: secret passage and repository, second floor: entrance and treasure room, third floor: king's sleeping room with big bed and writing table) -a fountain, the king's horse with big printed cover, market stand (for selling vegetables), vegetables, chicken legs -king, jester, archer, market woman Part 5: Castle Walls And Towers -three little castle walls (one with battlement and the two others with regular pinnacles) -a little tower with a catapult on it -a bigger tower with treasure chamber downstairs and a spooky room upstairs -two treasure boxes, eight gold pieces, some jewels, some stones -castle ghost (with white hands and "glow in the dark" function), three archers, one guard, a prisoner The different parts are modular which in this context doesn't mean that they have backwalls but which does mean that you can put them together like you want that you can create your "own" castle (= the are different possibilities how to combine the different parts of the castle). The castle, the minifigs which belong to it and the accessory should be in classic style - meaning that new molds and new torso designs can be used - but no fantasy creatures, fantasy elements and senseless action elements. Thanks for reading! What are your ideas? Would you like something similar to that? Do you think that TLG will release an exclusive and that huge Castle set similar to my idea in the near future? azoxystrobin Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I am an AFOL, and I absolutely love the fantasy era castle lego sets, every last one of them. It is perfect. Each to their own I suppose, but I would rather you avoid saying that they are ugly. they aren't, they are really good. Anyway, If you like classic castle so much, you can just buy all the old sets and MOC your own, if you don't like the fantasy era, then don't touch it. There are some articles around on the web which explain how and why (well, in part at least) TLC made the current castle sets as they are. To cut it short it's because "normal castle" is considered boring. Trolls and the Undead "roxxor" Quote

There are some articles around on the web which explain how and why (well, in part at least) TLC made the current castle sets as they are. To cut it short it's because "normal castle" is considered boring. Trolls and the Undead "roxxor" Each to their own is exactly right. We all have our own opinions on the castle line. That being said, is it really that inappropriate to state that you aren't a fan of the line or that you don't think the sets look very good? I mean if you as an AFOL have the right to state that each and every fantasy set is perfect, shouldn't somebody else have the right to express their opinion on the matter? Another thing; purchasing classic castle sets is cost prohibitive. Most of those sets have been out of production for over 15 years. Some have been out of production for a quarter of a century. To tell somebody who isn't happy with the current state of castle to suck it up and purchase old sets at an inflated price is hardly a solution for those fans who favour a more conventional castle theme. I'm certainly not as opposed to the current line as some (I feel that we've had a pretty healthy balance between conventional themes and fantasy), but I don't feel that censoring the opinions of those who feel differently is appropriate either. If "normal castle" as boring as you've suggested, then why did LEGO produce the Market Village in the first place? It would seem to me that there is some interest in conventional castle themes afterall. Quote
azoxystrobin Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 :D Each to their own, yes, which i why i just had to counter argument. Apparently TLC found that normal castle was boring. From testing, probably sales too. Their marketing strategies seem to be pretty good at the moment too, they alway seem to be on the mark. Possibly because they are simply remaking what worked well before ;) ? I must say I like the old castle sets too, I even had a couple when I was a kid. But I think it looks so outdated when compared to the latest castle sets. Quote
Rijkvv Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 The new figs are great, but the only good set today is the market village IMHO. What I would like to see: a real crusaders castle. With crusaders, templars, saracens (correct spelling?) siege towers etc. And of course a castle you could see in the middle East, with tan baseplates etc. Quote
