CET23 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Look, the problem I have with these sets isn't the sets themselves. Because by themselves, yeah, they're pretty neat. It's because this is NINJAGO that I'm upset. None of this "feels" like NINJAGO. There's no bright colors on the boxes, there's no Asian-inspired vehicles, the dragons are incredibly far from what we've received in the past, and it feels more like Time Cruisers mixed with Monster Hunters. It's almost like Lego as a whole is going for more of a Halloween theme this year. First we get lego Scooby Doo, then the minifigure line later this year is going to be all monsters, and now this ghosts theme with ninjago. Quote
DuckBricks Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) it feels more like Time Cruisers mixed with Monster Hunters. My thoughts exactly... It's almost like Lego as a whole is going for more of a Halloween theme this year. First we get lego Scooby Doo, then the minifigure line later this year is going to be all monsters, and now this ghosts theme with ninjago. Halloween theme, eh? Not buying it, where are my Force Ghosts?? ;) But actually, I do agree with this statement, there are so many spooky elements this year! Creepy BIONICLE skull villains, Scooby Doo, CMFs, and now Ninjago. Edited January 24, 2015 by legozebra Quote
Arkanta974 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Airjitzu sets are good and so many weapons ! This wave sound promising, waiting new york toy fair for more pictures ! Quote
Mandate Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Well, in around four days we'll know how accurate the prelims were. Given the differences between the DB 2.0's photo and Brickset's report on it, I've got some hope left for it being close to the original (but not much) Quote
DuckBricks Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I'm wondering exactly why they've suddenly banished Mechs from the land of have-knees. Like, seriously, this is ridiculously stupid that not a single Mech this year has had knees unless it's a Star Wars set. The only Mech that comes close to having knees is a Creator set, and even then the entire lower limb is its foot at the same time. Look, the problem I have with these sets isn't the sets themselves. Because by themselves, yeah, they're pretty neat. It's because this is NINJAGO that I'm upset. None of this "feels" like NINJAGO. Now that I'm thinking about it, Rebooted wasn't very "Ninjago-y" as well. This wave holds up better than last year's in terms of keeping to the Ninjago aesthetic... Quote

This wave holds up better than last year's in terms of keeping to the Ninjago aesthetic... Rebooted featured the Asian-style architecture and some very futuristic (but not wholly unrealistic) vehicles. It fit pretty well, IMO. Quote
PenPlays Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) These look so amazing. There's just so much to say here!... But I'm still going to wait until we get Toy Fair pictures. I just can't take away stuff from the preliminaries anymore without feeling disappointed in the end. It looks like this is getting the two theme wave treatment. I'm just curious what Lego is going to do for Winter 2016. We know that the Ninjago movie doesn't come out until later in the year, so why would they release the sets without any context unless it was closer to the movie's release? ...it feels more like Time Cruisers mixed with Monster Hunters. I know! Isn't it great! Edited January 24, 2015 by Penkid11 Quote

I liked the temple, but that was abut the only bit of Asian architecture.... Overall, I AM liking the feel of these sets, but I agree they don't feel Ninjago-ish. They're still awesome though! Quote
Mandate Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I know! Isn't it great! It belongs in a new line, not a pre-existing one. Admittedly, BIONICLE's prelims are worse... far worse... Quote
DarthLeapyous Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) I don't know why everyone is hating these prelims.....to me they look awesome! The Morro dragon looks absolutely SICK. Edited January 24, 2015 by DarthLeapyous Quote

LK901 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Compared to the winter wave's prelims, these are fantastic. I want to buy these the moment they come out. When I saw the winter wave prelims I was going to stop collecting Ninjago, except for the Titanium dragon, of course..... Quote
Pulp Detective Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Don't forget people those are prelims and not the finished products. After all in the coming weeks we'll definitely get pictures from the two toy fairs(german, new york).Personally I really like the looks of those sets espesially the spooky feeling they give. Can't wait to see more!!! Aanchir Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I think the new sets feel plenty "Ninjago-ish". The first wave this year combines motifs from the 2011 and 2012 sets along with some brand-new concepts. The second wave, meanwhile, features a new Destiny's Bounty and lots of unique-looking dragons. There are some small shrine-like structures, but the images are so small and blurry that they're hard to judge. The new evil mech resembles a previous one from the show which has never appeared as a set, as many other people have pointed out. Cole's new vehicle exemplifies the stylized futuristic zaniness that is characteristic of Ninjago vehicles. The one set that I can't say for sure how well it fits with Ninjago is Ronin R.E.X. It's a peculiar one for sure. Quote
Infernum Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Surprised at the hate these prelims are getting. Both the builds and figs look great to me... I kinda disregarded this wave when I heard ghosts, but I love the ghosts after seeing pics! Remind me of the army of the dead from LoTR. Quote
LK901 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Remind me of the army of the dead from LoTR. I see no resemblance, really. It looks more like ghost ninja, than LotR dead people. Especially the two we have good pics of (from airjitzu artwork on the prelims). Quote
Pulp Detective Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I never understood why people jump into conclusions just by looking the prelim pictures. You might get an idea about the set as a whole but there are always few details that will definitely change. Quote

Seriously?!???? And we still have no pics of 70730....... Wasn't at toy fair...... Does it still exist, or has it been replaced by 70731? Edited January 24, 2015 by LK901 Quote
obsidianheart Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 That new sword hilt on the Airjitzu packaging looks pretty MOCable. Quote
horizon Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 First of all: kudoos to a lot of people here who can make out all those details on the prelim images...lolz Airjitsu needs to be seen in action to be judged. Lots of weapons it seems. But none to be held within the Air thing? Although little shrines appear a large architectural design seems missing but the previous waves got that covered (poorly). The new Bounty looks interesting enough, especially the rear part with the cabin. Perhaps MOC-ing on the first Bounty. The sails look less cool though. The Sensei dragon cannot be judged with that image. The Morro Dragon looks large enough, posability will be the selling point if it is done good. The bike, helicopter, car are of lesser inspiration (where oh where are the new Skull Truck, Turbo Shredder, Snake Copter kind of cool vehicles these days?). Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Well, I went back to the prelims for the current wave. Having seen the sets on the shelf now. Sets where I thought: "Meh, snake skull hats are cool I guess" to hand wringing over which set to get first (curse this budget I have to live with) and having my sister do the eyebrow thing (you have to know the sort I mean) at my reaction to just "How cool they look!!" is a pretty big turnaround. This isn't even "Oh, cool parts" this is wanting the set for the set alone. So these prelims will be much different to the finished product. Quote
GoldenChi Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I really like the REX,cause it comes with a baby/mini morro dragon. The weapons seem to be an even less of a determining factor in airjitzu battles then in the spinjitzu game because of the spining-flying bit extends really far out and up.So I guess there juts to make the figures look cool. But damn, are there a lot of weapons in a pack. And Once again,Cole gets all the best vehicle. And I have a theory that the 4-armed mech is the Stone Army Samurai Mech, but spookified. Quote
Boogly22238 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 The summer sets look great, the R.E.X. looks like a flying submarine though. I thought it would be some sort of tank. Getting the Morro and Master Wu Dragons for one..but has anyone seen the Chain Cycle Ambush? Quote

Cole's new vehicle exemplifies the stylized futuristic zaniness that is characteristic of Ninjago vehicles. The one set that I can't say for sure how well it fits with Ninjago is Ronin R.E.X. It's a peculiar one for sure. That's because you're looking at the basics of what NINJAGO is. Ninja VS *enemy* while riding futuristic vehicles with elemental powers. But that's the premise, not the style. NINJAGO's "style", for the past four and a half years, has been Asian Architecture, Western-style dragons, futuristic (but not completely unbelievable, minus the Destiny's Bounty) vehicles and a sense of both age and progression. There's very little of the aforementioned in the Summer sets. Admittedly, Cole's vehicle is slowly growing on me, and Jay's vehicle is so blurry I can't comment on it too much, but simply sharing motifs (or general designs) from previous sets does not equate to sharing the same style. I mean, compare the Destiny's Bounty and it's Final Form (pun intended). The Morro Dragon is indeed a nice set, but the wings and its fake sense of motion really bring it down for me. Quote
