obsidianheart Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 (edited) They'll end it next year and 2017 will be the reboot (or would that be re-reboot, since there was a Rebooted already?). I'm kidding, I don't think that will happen. Edited April 21, 2015 by obsidianheart Quote
Master_Data Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Oh no! Do you think LEGO planned a second Morro wave for Winter 2016 so they could slide into the Ninjago Movie sets in Summer 2016? If so, do you think we'll get any sets/TV episodes in 2016 now that these were canceled? I hope so- if not, LEGO could kill the popularity of the line, which would probably result in the cancellation of the movie! Quote

I hope so- if not, LEGO could kill the popularity of the line, which would probably result in the cancellation of the movie! You do realize that the NINJAGO movie is not going to be canonical to the TV show? Likely case scenario LEGO was planning to axe the "normal" line and replace it with TNM. It's going to be a reboot regardless of whether or not the current story continues. In all honesty, I'm disappointed with the delay. I wanted to see a reset of canon, even if it was melded with every other line, after the disaster it's become by the end of season 4. edit: After reading through the "Lloyd Messenger" stuff from LEGO Club I'm a bit more comfortable with them continuing the main line for now. They did a good job at hinting at some things. Also, Wu in his version of bling Edited April 21, 2015 by Mandate Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I hope Ninjago keeps going. I love it...but I don't know how much longer it'll last... Quote
Ninja of Fire Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Or maybe they're just making a big push for 2016... Quote

Aanchir Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 It sucks that the date changed, but it's also a bit risky for TLG. The kids today that like Ninjago might not be fans in two years as they will probably grow out of it. Not sure if Ninjago will still be as popular by then to warrant a successful film. We'll see, I guess. According to Google Trends, Ninjago's popularity (at least in terms of search interest) is rising, not falling. I think it will easily be able to maintain interest until 2017 if it continues on this track, especially since to some extent, the movie itself will help to generate interest. My only concern can be summed up in this question: was the decision to delay the movie made soon enough that the sets and story will be able to continue without any bumps in 2016? After all, if it turns out that they were all geared up to have sets tying in with the movie in 2016, then a change this late in the game could mean having to completely rethink their toy and media strategy for next year. I'm sure that Ninjago could survive another hiatus/downtime like it had in 2013, but it would not be ideal. Hopefully, even though we're only now getting confirmation of the new release date, the decision to delay the movie was made some time ago, giving the LEGO Group plenty of time to adjust their strategy. TPLSTER21 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 As far as future sets are concerned and going by typical product planning cycle timelines, TLG already has the Winter 2016 designs mostly done and probably in the final design stage with preliminary images ready to go into the retailer catalog in another 60 days or so. So, assuming that a wave of Ninjago would have come out prior to the movie sets in 2016, then for sure that wave will be released. So, basically absent the movie sets that would have been the Summer 2016 sets, TLG have bought themselves a few months to come up with a Summer 2016 wave that is not movie-based. As for the TV show, same thing. Assuming that episodes would be made around the Summer 2015 (Ghosts) and Winter 2016 (?) sets, then those would be either being made now (Summer 2015 - Ghosts) or in the final planning stages (Winter 2016). Bottom line, I don't think that there is too much cause for concern in the short term. Assuming that TLG intended to continue Ninjago up to the old movie release date of September 2016, then another wave of sets and presumably another season of the TV show, is all but assured. That takes us into summer 2016. If the movie is now coming out in Fall of 2017, then TLG would need to produce another 2 waves of sets to bridge to the movie sets. I could guess that if the movie was going to come out in September 2016 as originally planned, then TLG would have intended to continue the line for at least another year after that. So, that could make it likely that sets will continue to be released up to Summer 2017 when the movie sets would be released. Also, many toy manufacturers will have a product pipeline planned out 2 years into the future (Hasbro and Mattel do this), so it is not unreasonable to speculate that Lego has a product pipeline that could fill shelves until the movie sets come out. Quote
Colossus Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Perhaps TLG postponed the Ninjago movie to give the Lego Dimensions Ninjago sets some time to expand a possible fan base through 2016 for a 2017 movie release. Quote
DraikNova Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Personally, I hope that the movie won't cause a reboot of the franchise, but merely supplement it. The movie's style seems to be very different from that of the series that has made Ninjago so popular. Quote
PenPlays Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 (edited) Typically Lego sets do take about a years worth of development, but take a look at Rebooted. That's less than a years worth of development work, and yet it somehow comes out as one of my favorite lines of Ninjago to date. I'm glad that the choice to move the movie was made now, as there is still plenty of time to create a Summer wave's worth of sets. At least 2 sets and they should be good. It would pale in scale to what's coming this Summer, but it would still be good. Finally got the Battle for Ninjago City yesterday. I've now completed the Rebooted wave! My second complete year of Ninjago. Edited April 21, 2015 by Penkid11 Quote
AyliffeMakit Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Interesting thought: Maybe the ninjago sets (and subsequently the Lego Batman Movie sets) will be a subtheme of the main TLM theme instead of the Ninjago Movie sets taking over ninjago for the year? That way, we'll still get normal Ninjago sets and sets for the TV show at the same time...! What do ya think? Quote

If LEGO truly thinks kids can only use red pins, they almost certainly wouldn't run the risk of running a line for a blockbuster movie and a TV show of the same name simultaneously, especially after what happened to BIONICLE at that stage. Still, though, it works for Hasbro, so hopefully I'm wrong. Quote

Maybe the Ninjago Movie sets could be in the normal TLM packaging but with the Ninjago Movie logo in the bottom right-hand corner of the box and a slightly different colour scheme? Quote
Lyichir Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Neither movie's sets will be a subtheme of The Lego Movie, whether or not they replace their respective theme's main sets for that wave, because neither movie is branded as "The Lego Movie: (subtitle)" or anything like that. And I would fully expect the sets for at least one wave of 2017 Ninjago to be based on the movie. It just doesn't make sense for Lego to run two Ninjago themes concurrently, not when they'd have a significant chance of cannibalizing each other's sales. Quote
Thelegomaster Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Didn't LEGO already have this happen when Warner Bros moved Batman v Superman back? Though it might be harder with the show... Quote

TheOneVeyronian Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I really like the design of the Chain Cycle (I see where it gets it's name from now ). I did not expect it to be a Ghost vehicle, and I love that we have a recolour for this part in spring green. I'm not mad on Jay Walker One, but I've always preferred the aesthetics of villain vehicles anyway, so it's really not a surprise. I'm also surprised neither of these sets contain any dragons (the Chain Cycle having a dragon motif doesn't count). I thought the Titan Mech Battle would be the only set without a dragon. For me, the Chain Cycle will be a definite purchase. I'll skip Jay Walker One. Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I feel like the JayWalkerOne has a great look. Really sleek. And just by looking at it, I got the excitement that I had when I first saw the 2012 lineup. I don't even know why I really like this vehicle. But I probably won't get it until it goes on sale. Nice! These two look great! The vehicles themselves look pretty good, the Chain Cycle looks like a better (and spookier) version of the stone warrior bike from 2013, and I really like that Ghostbuster style backpack they gave Jay. I'm actually quite surprised by the number of minifigures in these sets across the entire wave, especially the amount of ghosts. I count a total of 22 ghost minifigures, excluding the airjitzu flyers, and 12 skreamers, so you could end up with a good sized group of ghosts from buying a few sets, great if, like me, you want to build an army of them.
