ummester Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 One thing I've been considering with Bricklink, since the invention of the MOCshop, is setting up a store that sells only MOCs. I imagine simple cars - tanks, flats, gondalas, etc - would be reasonably sought after and would provide a 6x24 base, 4 wheel sets, 2 bogies, 2 buffers and so on. The price point is the difficult part. It's cost me approx. $350 US to order in enough parts to make a motorised diesel loco, a tank car, 2 flat cars and 2 gondolas with around $70 of that being postage - yes, I use Brickficiency and ordered from the minimum number of stores. For it to be in anyway worth my while, each car would have to cost around $50 US + postage. Looking at pick a brick, the only train part I can see is the wheels.
Mestari Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Yes, we know bricklink... The reason I mentioned the year of last release was the price it dictates for being not produced currently.
AlmightyArjen Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Is there already a date set when the 60098 will enter the market?
lightningtiger Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Is there already a date set when the 60098 will enter the market? I believe in August like the rest of the mid-year release city sets.
Legoboy22 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 That train looks a little like the yellow cargo train, I wonder what secrets it holds for all us railroad enthusiasts.
Lego Dino 500 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Anyone else curious about our next City passenger train? I imagine they could possibly do a NYC or AZ style Lightrail/Subway? Those already run in 3 car consists minimum, and it's the only untouched modern Lego train genre right now, unless I can think of something else. Ideally, my type of Lego passenger train would be a Flying Zephyr/Santa Fe/El Capitan based train, but none of those are too likely.

I feel like the light rail may already be covered by the upcoming 60097 unfortunately but I too would love to see a subway, El, or heavy rail commuter style train - would be great for city layouts and definitely something different. Lots of good real life possibilities out there like Chicago and NY (pics below) and seems like it could be time for a Lego passenger train based on North America again (at least I hope....)
davidmull Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 It's hard to believe there's no creator train this year. It's been every 2 years so i can't understand what's going on this year!
andythenorth Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm still shocked that they changed light-grey to light-bluish-grey.
dr_spock Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm still shocked that they changed light-grey to light-bluish-grey. It is one of those things one doesn't "get over it" but learn to cope over time. I make it a policy not to disassemble any of my old grey sets and MOCs so the parts don't get mixed up with my loose bleys.
PeteM Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm still shocked that they changed light-grey to light-bluish-grey. I'm still upset that they ditched the 12v system!
bp10030 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 My hope is still that the this year creator train will be released laterly because it will be the next set in the Winter Village Theme: a new christmas train. When they do usually provide first infos about the new WV set?
Duq Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Anyone else curious about our next City passenger train? No, because it won't be in the shops until 2018. It's hard to believe there's no creator train this year. It's been every 2 years so i can't understand what's going on this year! How long have you been into trains again? In 2001, 2002 and 2003 they released a large airplane so you could expect another one in 2004 but no, the next one came in 2006. Then there was a 6 year wait until the next one in 2012. Yes, there have been three Creator Expert trains and yes, they were released two years apart. That doesn't guarantee anything for future releases.

lanesteele240 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I want this years creator train to be rocket powered and have radar that cooks other trains in front of it No seriously. If the pick a brick just offered a better selection of train stuff and more colors i would be happy. The rocket power functions can wait till 2016
tafkatb Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 My hope is still that the this year creator train will be released laterly because it will be the next set in the Winter Village Theme: a new christmas train. When they do usually provide first infos about the new WV set? It's already been revealed. It's another Winter Toy Shop.
Lego Dino 500 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 It seems like there's been a pretty strong up trend for Lego trains lately. The HE has sold out several times up until it's discontinuation, there's been a lot of sales for the 60052 and 60051, from what I could tell, we can only speculate at this point. Crossing my fingers they release a Creator train and a Christmas train, or they go balls out and make a huge Pullman consist with a 4-6-2 or 4-8-2 steam engine. I'd be happy with either one, but I just want to have a Lego train with a locomotive, several passenger cars, and a brake van. The Lego My Own Train large locomotive with Tender, 5-6 passenger cars, a open freight car, and a brake van would be my perfect consist.
andythenorth Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) There is absolutely no news about a Creator train. Any sensible person can see that this means Lego are keeping it really quiet. Only a really daft person would think that no news means no train. Edited April 9, 2015 by andythenorth
ProducePrincess Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 For the first time in my life I'm sitting here wishing I were daft. We're on a one every two years schedule for these trains. The dates that the first 3 trains were unveiled varied widely so its possible that we could see an announcement anywhere from now to September. I've found in recent years Lego has surprised me with a few very sudden releases. Before was enough leaked information that we could know what an entire theme looked like months ahead.
davidmull Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Anyone know the release date of 60098? I'm new to trains so wouldn't know. Technic normally 1st aug.
Duq Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 We're on a one every two years schedule for these trains. The dates that the first 3 trains were unveiled varied widely. You could also see that as "there's no schedule for these trains". Pessimist? Me? Never. I'm a realist with experience.
ProducePrincess Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 You could also see that as "there's no schedule for these trains". Pessimist? Me? Never. I'm a realist with experience. You could consider it a very loose schedule or pattern. Because its a single exclusive set they can strategically release it when it makes the most sense rather than put it in with a summer/winter wave. I guess that could explain why its inconsistent with the month of release but in terms of years it has been a consistent 2 year gap between releases. I consider myself an optimist with experience in disappointment
legotrainfan Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 It would be nice if the steam engine plus the waggons in The LEGO Movie were available as a set. TLC has released many things from the movie. It would be great if that engine and those waggons could be bought too. Yes, I might be dreaming! But what is a human being without their dreams?
fred67 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 You could consider it a very loose schedule or pattern. I guess that could explain why its inconsistent with the month of release but in terms of years it has been a consistent 2 year gap between releases. Three's a coincidence, not a pattern. I think that's what Duq is alluding to. <pessimist mode enabled> In fact, I'm starting to find it tiresome that, not only in this thread, but just about every thread for some theme - pirates, vikings, and castle in particular, that people suggest "it's time" for a certain set to come out. The LEGO Group doesn't care about what you think... they are in it for the money, and they make what they think will make them the most money. Kids aren't into trains they way they were when I was little, that's just a fact of life, so LEGO trains will be fewer and farther between as time goes on. TLG lost a TON of money way back when they did a-la-carte trains, selling straight and curve packs separately, selling cars and engines separately... they are NOT going to repeat that mistake again. If you want LEGO trains to be your serious hobby, you will HAVE to look to third parties in order to make it happen - from people like SavaTheAggie selling engine plans on Bricklink, RailBricks instructions and the like, to places like ME models making track in the lengths and curves radii that you want.... The LEGO Group is NOT going to give you what you want, you're not a kid, you're not their target audience. The occasional creator train aside, you have to be more proactive in order to keep L-Guage going as a hobby.
M_slug357 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Fred67, You've forgotten who has the actual money though! The kids that make up the target demographic typically don't have their own income. So, If TLG were truly smart, they should try to hook the parents & the kids with the same set. If the adults are just as excited as the kids to build, and/or supervise the build, the adults will be more likely to buy x y z sets for said kids. I whole-heartedly agree with you that, for the more serious "train-heads", they will have to go to the various third parties to acquire train specific parts that are difficult/tedious to procure. The real mission that train enthusiasts need to undertake is to convince TLG that it's beneficial to spend resources on new/more train related items.
