The sad thing is, Lego's train stuff would do a lot better if they put more into marketing for it. It's a bit of a catch 22. There needs to be more TV advertisements, set distribution beyond the Lego store, put more models on display in the Lego stores, and maybe release a Lego classic train bucket, with the parts for several train bases and basic bricks to create various cars. And make sure to put it in more than just Lego stores too.

At my local Walmart, one of the price tags showed the Cargo train, but they never put it on sale there.

Well, I don't so. In the good old 12V era, when you walked into a toy store you could find a whole section on HO and N trains with all the additional accessoires. Nowadays you are lucky to find a train that is not LEGO in a toy store. Only the specialised stored do trains nowadays. So it is not LEGO alone.

But getting back on topic. I am actually surprised to see the red cargo train as I thought the previous one was an exception so we may consider ourselves lucky anyway. And to stir things up: Isn't it a 4-year creator train cyle? I mean the Maersk train is a licensed special product, so that one doesn;t count. Right? So we would have to wait until 2017 for the next creator train.

Of course the logic behind this all is..., well there is no logic so consider it nonsense.

And to be honest I don't hope so and eagerly await a new creator train.

Exactly. And with most train projects on Ideas failing to reach 1000 votes, nevermind 10.000, and the disappointing sales of the Horizon Express we're not exactly sending the right signal to TLG.

What gives you this impression?

Hm, I just got an idea:

Next year, 2016, will mark 50 years of Lego trains. Although Lego already produced a train in 1965, it didn't have rails or a motor. The trains introduced in 1966 however had a motor and the blue rails.

Maybe there is no train this year because Lego wants to produce an anniversary set for next year? I don't think that the recent Creator Expert trains sold badly, so that's the only explanation I have for now, hope this turns out to be true

What they call 'a reliable source' ;-)

The thing is: what is a good sales record?

Compared to what?

Do they sell x100 of the Star Wars Exclusive sets??

Or the Batman tumbler car?

Or the Maersk Trible-E?

It would be interesting to see som comparisons.. though that's probably hard to get at.. ;-)

While I have no hard numbers, I would agree with Duq. There were few rare parts in the HE and most of those that were in the set were of limited use (e.g., the orange train base plates), so they were far less attractive for parting out compared to the earlier AFOL train sets.

In Ireland ha?

Thanks to AerLingus and the Internet I actually have contacts outside of Ireland...

That is very sad to hear. I was a little worried that a French high speed passenger train might not have very wide appeal, particularly with the American market. I guess that since the train market is so small and splintered into a lot of niches there is always a risk a detailed model of a particular prototype might not have wide enough appeal. That's why I bought a couple of both the Emerald night and Maersk trains for parts. Just doing my bit for train sales.

To be honest, if you're a kid (or adult) who is interested in trains, steam trains or even freight trains are generally more interesting than passenger trains. Certainly I am anyway. Although I bought two HEs (and it's a good build), quite frankly, it's a bit boring to look at.

I think it looks much better than the 'legendary' Metroliner...

Remember that people like different trains or styles than other people. I love the Metroliner it is one of my favorite trains. Sure it is not the most detailed but I remember being little and seeing that 4558 train and being in love but never got it till this year! So it all depends on taste!

You can't please everyone. As product manager, the trick is to please enough people that they buy enough of your train set that you make your revenue and profit target for that set. Ideally, you want to exceed the target and go for the stretched goal and enjoy the performance bonus pay cheque.

I have a question but do not answer if you may know more or less exactly ... When will be released the next passenger train or passenger station in the following season?

I think we should further enhance the City transport line, with accessories such as a bus, a bus station (which may use along with the train station as a exchanger station), more accessories, as for example railway signals, rail crossing with functional level, new passenger stations with signs and more tracks, locomotive depot ...

City trains are released every 3 or 4 years so we're expecting the next City passenger train and station in 2017 or 2018.

A depot, signals and other accessories are unlikely to be released.

There's other public transport though. Have you seen 60097? http://gimmelego.blogspot.ie/2011/03/grand-opening.html

I would also recommend reading through previous pages in this thread; there's a lot of information there (as well as a lot of guessing, wishful thinking and speculation).

Do u really think we won't get an other creator train?

I think from my comments in this thread it's clear that I do not expect a Creator train this year. Next year? Who knows.

AFOL convention season is starting up again. Who knows if any trains will be revealed at one of them. We need some industrial spies inside LEGO. Any volunteers? :classic:

I'm still hoping that the rumour of a 3rd quarter creator train is true. It could very well not be however, in fact it would not surprise me if we only see the release of the new city cargo train, the rumour being mistaken identity. It's all speculation at this point though.
