davidmull Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 You can never have enough Helicopters... or police cars... or fire engines... or breakdown trucks... lol Also, this is a train themed forum, surely derailing a topic is always a little on topic! Helicopter is ridiculous on a train
marook Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 It doesn't surprise me that it is available at that store but what does surprise me is the premiere price you have to pay for it (around $225!!!). In my personal opinion it is an "okay" set, the engine looks better than the 7939 Cargo set we had in 2010.... It's ~$30 cheaper than 60052, if that gives you a perspective. 60052 lists for DKK 1699,-, this new set list for DKK 1499,- ... Remember, Denmark is an expensive place..

Remember, Denmark is an expensive place.. Thanks for the clarification I did not know that Denmark had such high prices! Hopefully it won't be near that $225 mark for the U.S. market, I assume this set will be around $150-$180 -RailCo
ProducePrincess Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I'm starting to warm up to this train now knowing that its cheaper. It can be pretty tough to get into trains without buying a set first because of all the electronics and track. How viable is selling individual train engines and cars if the theme becomes popular again?
Redimus Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Helicopter is ridiculous on a train Why? Anything that fits within the loading gauge can be fit on a train, and it makes more sense to transfer a helicopter long distances via rail or road rather than under it's own power which would be expensive.
M_slug357 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Helicopter is ridiculous on a train I half-heartedly agree... They coulda put some Divers or Space related stuff instead of the helicopter and digger(backhoe?) At the very least, make the copter more robust/bigger, requiring a flatcar for the main body and another flat for the props and tail. Would be a tad too ironic to have a cargo helicopter as the cargo?
v6TransAM Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Look up "Boeing" and "BNSF" if you think helicopters are ridiculous on a train!
dr_spock Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Helicopter is ridiculous on a train What were those Russians thinking?
zephyr1934 Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Also, this is a train themed forum, surely derailing a topic is always a little on topic! Oh my comment about actually being on topic (albeit barely) was mostly in reference to my previous three posts in this thread that were not on topic. What were those Russians thinking? "Wha ha ha ha haaaa! If we can hoodwink those Danes with this ploy we'll be able to take over the plastic construction brick world!"
dr_spock Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 "Wha ha ha ha haaaa! If we can hoodwink those Danes with this ploy we'll be able to take over the plastic construction brick world!" Maybe there was some Russian influence in the Heavy Haul locomotive which looks a bit like the 311D. 311D were modernized rebuilts of the Soviet Union made M62 locomotives. They kept the frame, bogies and fuel tank of the M62 and replaced everything else.

paul_delahaye Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) I actually think the name of this train being "Heavy Haul Train" is a bit ironic as it's cargo does not appear to be that heavy, no to mention that long flatbed car, any real weight on there and it will bend in the middle. Probably would have been better if it had been transporting part of the shuttle. I'm still going to have to get it, just because it's a Lego train. ahhhh Edited May 26, 2015 by paul_delahaye
marook Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Probably would have been better if it had been transporting part of the shuttle... That should be possible.. ;-) IMG_0507 by Marook, on Flickr

Steinkopf Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) Hate that green cargo train. Love what it's hauling though :) I thought you would love that locomotive given it's an official set, mind you I didn't like it either and put the parts to good use and built this ugly MOC instead Edited May 27, 2015 by Steinkopf

First thought, maybe this set is targeted at Russia (grin) I actually think the name of this train being "Heavy Haul Train" is a bit ironic as it's cargo does not appear to be that heavy, no to mention that long flatbed car, any real weight on there and it will bend in the middle. Any similarities are purely coincidental.
fuzzycow Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) Official-looking Lego images of 60098 have popped up at this Russian lego reseller site: http://le-go.ru/lego...haul_train.html Per the above page - 60098 part count: 984, with 5 minifigs. Images follow: (for moderators: per my understanding of site rules - these images are not classified as confidential (no watermarks, not blurry, copied from an official page of what appears to be a major lego reseller. with that said - please feel free to redact all or any part of this post) Edit: Image links are now wrapped in "spoiler", as not to interfere with user's viewing of other posts. davidmull Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Finally some proper images. Thanks fuzzycow. I'll get this set :)
dr_spock Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks for the pictures. I could have used them when I was building my version of the train. I think the landing gear is too big for that size of helicopter. I like how they use the Mixel ball joint for the crane attachments.
lightningtiger Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 The crane reminds me of the harbour set from 2007, hmm......I need more pictures to change my mind on that set.
Man with a hat Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Nice pictures. It starts to grow on me. Maybe I might buy it after all. The crane reminds me of the harbour set from 2007, hmm......I need more pictures to change my mind on that set. The upper sturcture is similar indeed. But it reminded me of 7838
talos Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 The Brick Fan has official photos now...not much more though. http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-city-heavy-haul-train-60098-official-images/
